It's my pfb first world book day at nursery, so I'm excited. I expect the novelty will have worn off by next year, and I'll hate it Grin

It’s DDs last one, she’s an only child so it’s mine too, thank god. Normally I don’t like spending money on book day costumes but a combination of apathy on my part, and DD being a bit over dressing up means I forked out £6 for “Camp halfblood” T-shirt from Amazon so she can be Annabeth from Percy Jackson. The rest of the costume is jeans, trainers and a baseball cap.

Nicpem1982 · 25/02/2019 16:16

Dd is going as Fantastic mr fox

happydays00 · 25/02/2019 16:22

DD is going as the butterfly from "The Hungry Caterpillar"

Our school don’t dress up. I had a good idea for DS though- go in normal clothes and carry cuddly Mog toy and an egg- Nicky from the Mog books.

Sammysquiz · 25/02/2019 16:25

DS is going as Dennis The Menace, who I admit isn’t strictly a book character but hey-ho.

GroggyLegs · 25/02/2019 16:35

DS1 is going as big skeleton from Funnybones. I'm recycling Halloween's skeleton suit with a red hat.

DS2 will be Tabby McTat as I have a costume (made from 2 b&m furry cushion covers) from DS1s first book day when it was all new and I had any energy for these kind of things Sad

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 25/02/2019 16:47

Oh bollocks, not this again.

Might try and persuade DS3 to wear the Hiccup costume I made for DS2 a couple of years ago and DD... no feckin idea. Probably some sort of Princess shite unless I can persuade her otherwise.

Laiste · 25/02/2019 16:50

Bloody Stick Man. No choice.

WHY?????

UnaOfStormhold · 25/02/2019 16:55

DS said he wants to go as Sir Gadabout - luckily his dressing up box includes both a knight outfit and a stethoscope, so job done! Maybe our DC should get together, MunchyMunchkin !

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/02/2019 16:57

Hey OP- my LOs first dress up at nursery this year too. Think we’ve settled on a ladybird from the Julia Donaldson book “what the ladybird heard”...I found a ladybird skirt and wings- that way she should still be able to play. The tiger who came to tea outfit looked a bit hot and restricting

scrappydappydoo · 25/02/2019 17:07

Laura From little house on the prairie- although they have to dress as their fav fiction character and technically LHOTP isn’t fiction but it’s treated as such so I’m going with the flow.
Victorian costume from last years victorian day and bonnet -£2 from eBay. Last dress up book day - they thankfully don’t do it at secondary level round here.

showerpower · 25/02/2019 17:12

Me Stink

showerpower · 25/02/2019 17:12

Mr Stink even ! Grin

onelittleclara · 25/02/2019 17:17

@Thatsnotmyotter and @PMmehunx

Not thought through at all, can you imagine the costumes! I think a few other parents are having a word...

Our school ask us to buy a copy of the book to donate to the school to increase the library. I get the idea, but the cost of making a costume (always made, never bought) and a book x 2 kids is ludicrous!

SlipperyLizard · 25/02/2019 17:22

DD1 is going as Harry Potter, DD2 as Hermione - picked up costumes in the Sainsbury’s 25% off event.

I wish I was one of those mums who can magic a home made costume up, but instead I’m one of those mums who throws money at it every year.

TheKnackeredChef · 25/02/2019 17:34

Me: What do you want to be for World Book Day?
DS(9): I'm going as me.
Me: But you're not in a book, are you?
DS: Not in a book YET.

Norma27 · 25/02/2019 17:56

Thank god our school isn’t doing it. I think a much better idea is pyjama day and taking favourite book in. Dressing up leads to a ton of pressure for some parents.

JumpOrBePushed · 25/02/2019 17:59

@Laiste

One of the kids in our school went as Stick Man a few years ago.

His costume was basically brown leggings, brown t-shirt, with green cardboard leaves stuck on it.

Allyg1185 · 25/02/2019 18:00

Thank god my ds school doesn't get involved in world book day. They take in their favourite book but no dressing up

ClockworkNightingale · 25/02/2019 18:01

Son going as Percy Jackson - Orange t-shirt.
Daughter going as Rosie Revere, Engineer - Rosie the Riveter-style headband.

Complicated WBD costumes violate my moral code.

TheSheepofWallSt · 25/02/2019 18:05

DS 2.5 has told me very seriously he “wants to dress like lady”. When interrogated further we gathered she wears black and has a “blow! A blow!”
He meant bow.
He’s going as the witch from room on the broom.

OneToThree · 25/02/2019 18:16

My twins are going as thing 1 and thing 2 Grin

MsFanackerPants · 25/02/2019 18:47

My daughter is going as the Wolf from Moon. Or she said she might be the Wolf from little red riding hood, apparently it depends on how fierce and bitey she feels that day

NerrSnerr · 25/02/2019 19:03

My eldest is in reception and wants to be the witch from Room on the broom. My youngest is in nursery. Not sure about him.

Mmmhmmokdear · 25/02/2019 19:06

Bloody Herione Bloody Granger. along with half the school I imagine

As least it's simple.
