It's my pfb first world book day at nursery, so I'm excited. I expect the novelty will have worn off by next year, and I'll hate it Grin

Our school has asked the children to go as a character from the group reading book they are reading. Dd's group are reading the Diary of Anne Frank.....

Nomummyonlyzuul · 25/02/2019 14:48

dd is being rapunzel, she's got the hair for it!
Ds is being one of the three bears. Ours have been given a fairytale/nursery rhyme theme.

Juicyfrooty · 25/02/2019 14:51

Dd is insisting on dressing up as Miranda Sings for her final primary school world book day Blush

Oh the hell!
Dd will completely overthink this and spend ages soul searching about which book and character is her real favourite

Ds will obsess about the smallest details of his chosen character

Neither will ever settle for one that can be bought in a supermarket.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 25/02/2019 14:54

Dd is going as Dot from Dotty Detective.

Ironfloor269 · 25/02/2019 14:55

Violet Baudelaire from A Series of Unfortunate Events.

caughtinanet · 25/02/2019 14:59

Nothing, I don't agree with enforced dressing up and DCs don't have any favourite book characters so non event in this house.

SalliSunbeem · 25/02/2019 15:01

My DGD is going as a mocking bird 😃

WellTidy · 25/02/2019 15:02

DS will be Harry Potter again, as last year's Tesco outfit still fits.

A really easy one is Oliver Twist. School trousers and a school shirt, made 'dirty' with eyeshadow. Use eyeshadow to dirty the face and gel for unkempt hair. Child holds a bowl. I also made DS a badge that said "Please sir, can I have some more?'

Another easy one is to buy a lab coat. Then the child can be a doctor or a dentist. DS wore a lab coat one year and had the play-doh dentist's drill in his pocket, and he was Demon Dentist.

DD has had her dress up day at the beginning of February. School does it during Book Week.

She was the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland.

NanooCov · 25/02/2019 15:05

My 4 year old hates dressing up. I have bought him a Stick Man costume but in the (likely) event he doesn't want to wear it he'll wear normal clothes and take a bucket of dinosaurs for Harry and his Bucket of Dinosaurs. 1 year old doesn't give a toss but I'm dressing him as Winnie the Pooh. Making the most of it before he spoils my fun and decides he doesn't like dressing up too.

KeptTheBeachesShipwreckFree · 25/02/2019 15:06

Our school have asked children to dress as characters from their class book. Good idea. Where the fuck am I going to gets sodding wardrobe, lion or penguin costume from that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? I'm loathe to spend any money on it really because when are they ever going to wear them again? It's just tat headed for landfill. They're not going as anything.

MunchyMunchkin · 25/02/2019 15:07

Princess pearl from zog and the flying doctors. Cotton dress with a white coat over the top. She already has the doctors set so nothing to buy or do!

Thatsnotmyotter · 25/02/2019 15:17

@onelittleclara

😂😂They reeeeally haven’t thought about that have they?!

littlemissblue2000 · 25/02/2019 15:30

Ds8 is Ratburger, dd5 is little red riding hood and dd3 is Owlette!

Drogosnextwife · 25/02/2019 15:35

Dr is going as a Dragon, we already had the costume so that's a bonus I was trying to get him to go as the bfg, they have the costume in Sainsbury's but he is not for it at all.

PMmehunx · 25/02/2019 15:39

@onelittleclara Whaaaat!! Shock
What will they all dress as?!

Last year, one of the mums at our local school told me she was thinking about sending her eight year old DS as The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas, as it would be easy! When I told her what the book was about, she changed her mind......

newyearnewwhat · 25/02/2019 15:51

I work in foundation, I'm going as Alice in Wonderland once again!
I treated myself to a lovely costume a few years ago and will roll it out every year to ensure I get my money's worth! Grin

Watto1 · 25/02/2019 15:57

This year dd and ds are going as Harry Potter and Hermione. When dd was younger I astonished myself by coming up with a really easy but effective costume for her. Yellow cardboard crown and one of dh’s plain white T-Shirts that reached her ankles - The Little Princess!

LBOCS2 · 25/02/2019 16:07

DD1 went as The Little Princess last year - easy and cheap, my favourite sort of WBD costume!

This year she wants to be Peter Rabbit. I'm less keen on that idea...

PMmehunx · 25/02/2019 16:08

@Clawdy oh God Shock She is SO lucky she mentioned it to you first. Imagine if it just never came up in conversation so nobody told her!

PMmehunx · 25/02/2019 16:09

Little Princess for next year for us, thanks for that Grin
I have a year to convince her that it's her new favourite book.

For some reason my children's school gave book character day in November.
There has been a suggested theme and it was "classic tales" last time round. My youngest was the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland and my eldest was the Mad Hatter.
Quite a few people were Frankenstein's monster or a witch so they could reuse old Halloween costumes.

Crunchymum · 25/02/2019 16:14

DC1 can wear his Gruffalo jumper (which I bought for WBD last year) and take in his Gruffalo puppet. DC2 can go in her Rapunzel dress.

WBD is my first week back at work after 14m ML, so I'm going to be a bit busy.
