For me...

Finding out my newfound major celebrity crush is 35 years older than me... I thought he was only 40 odd. I'm extremely deflated.

And thinking I'd found a double youlked Haribo to win a holiday prize but I was pranked.

Lastly, my DS now saying Daddy and putting arms out to daddy. Until now, he's done my head in by constantly only ever wanting me. I feel quite upset now he's all for DH.

My parents. Sorry, not so lighthearted.

Giggorata · 25/02/2019 00:03

All those jokes and magic tricks that used to be on the back of certain comics used to enthrall me as a child. I finally sent away for the Dancing Skeleton.
The line drawing showed a skeleton about a foot high that would “obey your commands and dance”
A cardboard 2 dimensional skeleton arrived, with joints held together with pins, and some sewing thread, which was how it “moved”.
7 year old me was desolate Sad

New york

HeronLanyon · 25/02/2019 00:19

That my mum wouldn’t let me watch The Man With The X Ray Eyes (old 40s film?) I was about 7 or 8. We weren’t allowed to watch much tv (70s this was). I followed her round for hours saying ‘tmwtxre’ as if that would work. Poor woman ! Still haven’t seen it. Was inconsolable. Stupid !

DioneTheDiabolist · 25/02/2019 00:47

Toledo, I ended an amazing tour of Spain there. Wish I'd gone to Madrid instead.
Apple Crumble! How can restaurants (some of them quite fancy/expensive) get it so wrong when my school dinner ladies had it nailed in the 80s?Angry

Oh yeah, and LaLa Land. Pure drivel, couldn't watch it all.

Graphista · 25/02/2019 03:19

I'm another that tends to go for younger guys but it's getting stupid now! Some are young enough to be my kids!! Blush

"Miller and Carter. My friend raved about it and I just didn't get it. Overpriced mediocre food served badly in a grey version of Harvester." Dds boyfriend recently took her out to one hoping to impress - didn't work. Might be my fault as even though we don't eat out often and not on a good budget I'm quite discerning and have a knack for finding good quality but reasonably priced restaurants. She's also not a fan of wagamama or yo! Sushi as we have found a fab local independent Japanese place. Chain restaurants are generally watered down crappy versions of good restaurants. Dd is also unfortunately lumbered with THE least adventurous people with food as friends! Fussy buggers who can't cope with anything unfamiliar let alone with any actual flavour. The ones who've been friends a long time we've managed to slightly convert by introducing them to such exotic fayre as...

...sundried tomatoes, cous cous, olives, tzatziki 😂😂

a couple I've even managed to get them to try Korean pancakes, sushi, pierogi and dim sum

I still think that's an achievement as these are very much "kfc kids" at first I thought it was the parents but now I know them too I know it's not the case, one couple in particular loves "spicier the better" but have a dd who thinks Korma is spicy 😂😂😂😂

Cunnilingus 😂 oh dear - are you giving or receiving?

"Scotland not beating France at rugby yesterday. GRRR." Seconded

"The cancellation of the TV series Travelers" also seconded - keeps happening to me I'm like a good tv show killer!!

Paris - dirty, smelly, rip off prices and rude rip off Parisiennes!

"That teenage girls have crushes on men who are my demographic. Seriously? Have your pretty little boys, leave the ones I could conceivably shag in my dreams alone." Haha yea dds major crushes are my age! Wtf! To be fair they don't look their age and sadly I think there's an element of "daddy issues" in there - yet another thing to hate the ex for!

"Finding out centre parcs aren't entirely under a big glass domes" you must be similar age to me when the ads promised this seemingly? They bloody should be actually given how shite the British weather is!

"Ski ing. I hate being cold, I hate heights and I hate exercise." Tbf wtf made you think you'd LIKE it?! (I'm with you on all 3 by the way but that's why I've never been!)

Sorry but I love Milan Blush

SummerIsNearer · 25/02/2019 08:49

I would so sleep with Ralph Fiennes anyway. I wouldn't care about the media hate Sad he's just so lovely and clever. Very clever, he can stand there and act out Shakespeare from memory.

Graph Yo! sushi is okay... the best part is the Mochi Strawberry cheesecake flavour. It is delicious.

So glad someone else mentioned San Francisco. I was so excited to go... and it was so, well, meh.

overitnow · 25/02/2019 09:20

The Twilight movies - I remember the huge hype about them and I eventually watched them years later and couldn't believe how shit they were

millythepink · 25/02/2019 10:07

Graphista I knew I wouldn't like it and protested vehemently when DH booked it but he was adamant I would love it if I just tried it. Fool Hmm

Doghorsechicken · 25/02/2019 10:29

The Hobbit films. A lovely book ruined by Hollywood.

cjt110 · 25/02/2019 10:46

Having my nails done. It took 20 minutes. I wanted it to take an HOUR!

Meralia · 25/02/2019 10:51

Putting a beef joint in the slow cooker overnight, apparently it’s a thing, people do it and their meat is tender. Mine was so dry and hard, so disappointed!

Gushpanka · 25/02/2019 10:57

@Lipsticktraces

Maybe i missed something in BOM but it felt racist with its portrayal of Ugandans as primitive fools and i just couldn't laugh at somone raping babies or people having AIDS even if it is satire.

Going to the Cinema. Far too loud and usually very boring
Blackadder - very much my generation and everyone but me loves it. Just don't find it funny. At all.
Terry Pritchett. Massively over rated.
Ditto Rowling.

Bananasarenottheonlyfruit · 25/02/2019 11:04

Hamilton. All a bit Emperor's New Clothes for me. Maybe if I was American, it would have resonated better.

Parenthood. Too much like guerilla warfare for me.

Middle age. But maybe that is because of parenthood!

Marriage. Could also be linked to parenthood though.

SummerIsNearer · 25/02/2019 11:49

Ralph Fiennes sleeps with anything, you may well be in with a chance.

Ooooo really?! A bit like his character in a few of the films he's in then... He seems rather selective of his sex partners but perhaps not. I haven't done too much digging through fear I find he's gay or something

I wish mine would take 20 minutes! What did you have done?

Parenthood. Too much like guerilla warfare for me.

Here here. It's why I've stopped at 1. He's very gorgeous but too much slog is involved for little return. One is enough. unless Ralph Fiennes comes calling for me to have a baby for him

Being an adult in general. You can eat whatever you want, but you get fat. You can stay up as late as you want, but you get tired. You can have lots of lovely sex, but you get pregnant. DC are starting to get older sex is more fun again, menopause starts. Spend money on whatever you want, yeah right but you have to earn it. It's shit really isn't it.
Husband is a bit of a disappointment too tbh.

Roomba · 25/02/2019 12:18

I used to live the low cal hot chocolate that Aldi did, but they stopped stocking it. I drank gallons of it, the normal one is all powdery and full of sugar so I was veyry annoyed. But it was okay because Sainsbury's did one exactly the same (same manufacturer I suspect as the packing was almost identical).

Went to Sainsbury's this morning - They've stooped doing it! I'm gutted as any others I've tried are either horrible or too sweetened. Bah!!!

HotSauceCommittee · 25/02/2019 12:28

As a child in A&E: the nurse told my parents she’d just get a trolley for me. I was gutted that it was a bed on wheels and not a supermarket trolley.

TeaforTwoBiscuitOrThree · 25/02/2019 12:28

LaLaLand - boring
Baptiste - too many accents

TrainSong · 25/02/2019 13:40

Yeah Baptiste is a bit tick-box plot for my liking. Even though I love the actor and Tom Hollander is brilliant in everything he does.

ChickeningOut · 25/02/2019 13:46

The fact that I put the oven on, waited thirty minutes and thought 'Oh, lovely, lunch will be ready now' only to walk into the kitchen and see my lunch still sitting on the worktop, having been nowhere near the oven.
