I've just been listening to 'Will You' by Hazel O'Connor and I'd forgotten what a fantastic song it is. 'Thunder In The Mountains' by her contemporary, Toyah Wilcox, is also great.

Nobody Does It Better by Carly Simon;

At Seventeen by Janis Ian.

I'll probably think of more classics later.

Flameycakes what a lovely memory. You must have treasured that album.

Agree with lotd of these.

Moments of pleasure - Kate Bush
Edge of seventeen - Stevie Nicks

Think there's something quite spiritually powerful about them. I'm not spiritual normally.

Also love Carey by Joni Mitchell, like pps have mentioned. So evocative.

And pretty much all of Tapestry. I've been warbling along to it for decades. I read somewhere that part of the power of that album was that women heard it and each thought it sounded like them singing and also that they could sing it. I think that's true, although I've no idea how she managed it.

Sausagefingers9 · 16/02/2019 11:14

I really like fireworks and it’s a shame at the moment. Both by First Aid Kit.

IndigoSpritz · 16/02/2019 11:17

What else...

Am I The Same Girl by Barbara Acklin;

One In A Million by Maxine Brown;

I'm Still Waiting by Diana Ross;

Together We Are Beautiful by Fern Kinney.

There's loads and loads.

Handay · 16/02/2019 11:21

I love the way that First Aid Kit's vocals work together. They're sisters aren't they? There can be something really special about siblings who sing with each other.

daisychain01 · 16/02/2019 11:30

Anita Baker has recorded many beautiful ballads like " Giving you the Best that I Got" and Rapture

Oleta Adams "Get Here if you can"

Randy Crawford "Rainy Night in Georgia"

Jaki Graham "Round and Around"

Christina Perry "Jar of Hearts"

All beautiful songs, meaningful lyrics and fab score and production.

kd lang’s version of Case Of You

Ella Fitzgerald, which my Y10 art teacher used to play on an old LP last period on a Friday afternoon, especially Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye.

Wildflowers from the ‘Trio’ album, which reminds me of my dad, a big-time country and western fan.

I love Kate Bush's Man With the Child in His Eyes.

I think she was about 16 or 17 yo when she wrote it. Amazing talent

I also love Adele Skyfall it went so brilliantly with the Bond visuals as the theme of the movie. Love the "Close my eyes and count to 10 ... " line. She rather wonderful.
