British IS girl "wants to return to Britain"

themoomoo · 14/02/2019 07:26

Said she has no regrets;
Says she's seen severed heads in bins but it didn't faze her.
Says living with IS lived up to her expectations.
Now she wants to come home to Britain as she's 9 months pregnant.

Sounds an ideal member of any sane society

That's true, a 19yo male or even the father at his age wouldn't have this outrage either

On here there would be outrage but it would be centered around toxic masculinity, this situation is the perfect mix where the intersectionality of IDpol is being played out.

The calls of 'racist' on this thread highlights it

Justanotherlurker · 14/02/2019 21:20

She is however clearly vulnerable.

These facts are not mutually exclusive

They are not, but it's still not a case to risk other personal to go save her is it.

That's the crux of why this has gained international interest.

BrizzleMint · 14/02/2019 21:22

Let her come back and then take her baby into care and charge her with whatever she can be charged with.

Aridane · 14/02/2019 21:24

Aridane it's a long thread but skimming through, it seems pretty unanimous that she shouldn't be allowed to return or am I thick blush?!

No - not thick - you just haven't RTFT

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 14/02/2019 21:25

Let her come back and then take her baby into care and charge her with whatever she can be charged with.

I'm afraid I lack confidence in our ability or will to actually carry that out.
I suspect she would fade out of sight with little or no consequences to her actions.

Youshallnotpass · 14/02/2019 21:28

There are plenty of Syrian refugees with newborns or who are pregnant who didn’t fight for ISIS

Fuck her, let her rot there and bring someone who has lost everything because of these absolute monsters

Moussemoose · 14/02/2019 21:29

I don't think lives should be risked to save her. I didn't say they should be. I was responding to a poster who implied she was not vulnerable.

She chose to actively engage with IS by being married and going to
Syria. This is not on the same level as an active member of the SS.

I don't agree, support or endorse her behaviour. But to compare it to the activities of the SS is foolish and ignorant.

Bebe03 · 14/02/2019 21:35

@arsefeatures
The Guardian is one of the most honest media streams you can get information from so regardless of your views I think you should rethink that thought. Just think of the recent exposures they’ve done- the snowden files etc..

Also your fear of Islam is confused. Most Muslims are kind, loving, generous people.

Terroists who kill in the name of ‘islam’ are not true Muslims as their faith would never promote such behaviour.

Regardless of views on this woman it is no excuse to be racist.

We are playing into the hands of terrorists by becoming a divided, hatred filled country. Let’s not let them win by becoming even more divided therefore encouraging isolation of ethnic mintories & religion and an increase in radicalisation.

Longdistance · 14/02/2019 21:39

The British Government should rip up he’s passport, and she can stay there and rot! She is s traitor to our country and our beliefs.
Couldn’t give a crap what her parents say!

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 14/02/2019 21:39

I didn't "imply" she wasn't vulnerable, I stated it as my opinion, which I stand by. To use a previous poster's term, I think she's as hard as nails, and we shouldn't project or attribute woolly soft Western ideals to people like her who, regardless of age (and she's a woman, not a girl), have an attitude towards life (and death) that is alien to virtually all of us.

Justanotherlurker · 14/02/2019 21:41

She chose to actively engage with IS by being married and going to
Syria. This is not on the same level as an active member of the SS.

No because the SS members were not recruited from foreign lands with high Def videos and 24/7 news coverage of what's happening.

What you are dismissing however is that both IS and the SS was fighting from an ideological standpoint

Uptheapplesandpears · 14/02/2019 21:41

That's what I thought sprout. Not much realistically to be done at the moment, the situation in Syria isn't calming down any time soon and she's hardly likely to get over the border to Turkey by herself. She's a lone woman with no family support, an easy target, in a refugee camp in a really dangerous country. No guarantee she'll still be alive by the time the UK is able to reintroduce Syria consular services.

Justanotherlurker · 14/02/2019 21:44

The British Government should rip up he’s passport, and she can stay there and rot! She is s traitor to our country and our beliefs

No they shouldn't because it's the serious end of a slippery slope to a totalitarian government, what we shouldn't do and apparently not doing is making a special case to go and 'rescue' her and risk other lives in the process

anniehm · 14/02/2019 21:49

I wouldn't be concerned, the government made it clear that she needs to get herself to a British consulate before they can offer any services eg emergency travel documents. On return she would find herself being interrogated, but she can't speak out against isis whilst still in Syria anyway. I think most European governments are secretly hoping that those who left for isis don't make it back!

MissEliza · 14/02/2019 21:51

Aridane I tried as best I could but there's an awful lot to catch up on. Try to be nice please Smile

Jamct23 · 14/02/2019 21:53

Well I got one will be waiting at the airport with a welcome mat....... NOT

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/02/2019 21:55

On the subject of Shamima being "stuck in a refugee camp", can anyone confirm how The Times reached her for the interview? I'm assuming it would be hard to get western correspondents in, so maybe it was by phone?

I guess I'm just hoping that there isn't some idiotic "white knight" who'll get her out of there and to a consulate ...

MissEliza · 14/02/2019 21:58

Or some newspaper who help her get home in return for an exclusive Angry.
The fucking cheek of her sitting in a refugee camp taking advantage of other people's charity.

Tiscold · 14/02/2019 21:59

How is saying bomb a terrorist thick? Quite frankly if it wasn't for the kid i would want them to do so. She has no place on earth because of the suffering and pain she has caused.

Moussemoose · 14/02/2019 22:03

No because the SS members were not recruited from foreign lands

Many members of the SS were not German. They were also adult males and some were conscripted. Stop the comparison with the S.S. it is false and demonstrates your ignorance.

I am not dismissing anything, I am fully aware the SS and IS are ideologically driven organisations.

I am saying that as a 15 year old child she made decisions that most people in the U.K. would abhor. She was vulnerable then and she is even more vulnerable now.

I don't agree with what she did, I don't like or support her decisions. However, she is vulnerable and she is a British citizen and she retains her human rights.

StrangeLookingParasite · 14/02/2019 22:07

So what she’s a British citizen. Time to get tough and strip her of it,

You cannot strip someone of their sole nationality, making them stateless. It is against international law.
Which I think is a shame in this case. Yes, I think she's effectively a trojan horse, no I don't think she has remotely changed her views.

I am disinclined to show much sympathy; I live in Paris, two minutes from where Charlie Hebdo was, and five from Bataclan. My son heard the policeman being killed, and the ambulances for the dead from Bataclan lined up in my street.
Yeah, I am not especially forgiving.

ReflectentMonatomism · 14/02/2019 22:08

No because the SS members were not recruited from foreign lands

You are joking, aren't you? Forty thousand Belgians, six thousand Danes, twenty thousand Estonians, twenty thousand French...the list is endless.

Even 54 Brits.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 14/02/2019 22:13

Yes, she is, unfortunately, a British citizen. Yes, she retains her human rights. I disagree she's vulnerable, but if she is, then frankly it's her own fault and I have little sympathy. Actions have consequences.

OlennasWimple · 14/02/2019 22:23

The Guardian is one of the most honest media streams you can get information from so regardless of your views I think you should rethink that thought.

Ha ha ha ha! Good one!!

Justanotherlurker · 14/02/2019 22:23

Many members of the SS were not German. They were also adult males and some were conscripted. Stop the comparison with the S.S. it is false and demonstrates your ignorance.

I didn't make the initial comparison, it doesn't demonstrate my ignorance as it wasn't me trying to minimise personal responsibility.

I am saying that as a 15 year old child she made decisions that most people in the U.K. would abhor. She was vulnerable then and she is even more vulnerable now.

If it was the SS you would be punching up, she may have been vulnerable at 15, but 4 years battle hardened later and not even remotely apologetic, we should swoop in and save her why?
