Perhaps it was a nice bought but would have perhaps been better to write on the oranges instead

Maybe there were no oranges available.

Hollowvictory · 04/02/2019 17:22

Oranges are not the only fruit

Maybe she couldn't get her hands on her melons.

OnoAnotherNC · 04/02/2019 17:24

I don't know the context of this situation but it strikes me as somewhat deranged

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 04/02/2019 17:24

It ought to have been avocados. Very now.

Hollowvictory · 04/02/2019 17:25

She was packing food parcels In Bristol and asked for a sharpie to write messages of support on the fruit. Don't Diss her for that.

WinkysTeatowel · 04/02/2019 17:26

I thought it was a fairly kind thought. Can't say the type of fruit crossed my mind...

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 04/02/2019 17:27

Figs would have been worse and she would have had to make her handwriting extra small.

mimibunz · 04/02/2019 17:28

Her heart was in the right place. Please don’t make this dirty!!

CatnissEverdene · 04/02/2019 17:28

It was bizarre.

percheron67 · 04/02/2019 17:30

Very American. Anything for publicity!

milkmoustache · 04/02/2019 17:30

Bananas have the best surface for writing on of all fruit. Fact.

MadMum101 · 04/02/2019 17:30

It was an unfortunate object to write messages of support to sex workers on. I wouldn't have been impressed to receive it.

Message would have been better written in a post-it note IMO.

ColdPasta · 04/02/2019 17:31

They are prostituted by men for the benefit of men.

It seems to me Meg is not about liberating women at all and all about looking after the men, which isn't a feminist in my opinion, she has the right to describe herself as a feminist and decide for herself what feminism is, I have to disagree with her

AutumnCrow · 04/02/2019 17:32

I guess she can't do anything right. Like a fruit cocktail of wrongness. A sorbet of failed good intentions. A veritable Eton mess of charitable aims.

IAmNoAngel · 04/02/2019 17:32

I thought it was incredibly patronising.

Seaseasea · 04/02/2019 17:32

Didn’t she say at the time she was copying it from a project she saw where people wrote messages on bananas for school children?
I’m sure even sex workers are able to look at a banana without thinking of cock Hmm

MillytantForceit · 04/02/2019 17:34

What message?

"Use this instead"

???

MaddieElla · 04/02/2019 17:36

Yes, wonderful idea Meg. Must be so empowering for those women to go out night upon night selling their bodies to disgusting men who no doubt do degrading things to them for money. For them to then get beaten the shit out of later by whoever manages them.

Nice thought. But know your audience. Or use your power to change, not right utter shit on a banana.

LardLizard · 04/02/2019 17:36

Or ages were in the bags i’m Sure. I agree a post it note would have been nicer
Also i thought the message of you are loved, wasnperhaps a step too far, as I would have thought that someone these sex workers have probabaly never been actually loved in life 😰 and just writing you are loved doesn’t make that so.

I’d like to think it was a nice gesture just a bit clumsy

OP posts:
Ellieboolou27 · 04/02/2019 17:38

I thought it was hilarious that she’d be so stupid to do that, I loved her in suits but writing messages on bananas for sex workers - grim

MaddieElla · 04/02/2019 17:38

"I’m sure even sex workers are able to look at a banana without thinking of cock"

People are spectacularly missing the point. It's not about the fruit, it's about the "empowering" messages she was sending to those women. I don't think they feel empowered at all. Degraded, trapped, forced. Not empowered.

Disfordarkchocolate · 04/02/2019 17:40

I thought it was a lovely idea. The food parcels are a caring and practical act by the charity. To me she showed that she recognised the recipients as people with feelings not just women who have sex with men for money. A little bit more love and compassion in the word is never a bad thing.

KnitFastDieWarm · 04/02/2019 17:45

I volunteered with this charity on the van for four years. I know the women and the relationship of sisterhood, solidarity and love that we had with them. I can guarantee you that this gesture would have been appreciated, raised a smile and been taken the right way.
