Perhaps it was a nice bought but would have perhaps been better to write on the oranges instead

I found it cringeful but her heart was in the right place.

Costacoffeeplease · 04/02/2019 22:11

Typical look at me stuff, god knows what she’ll do next

LardLizard · 04/02/2019 22:19

Harry wasn’t cringing as much as at the wedding though, when that American guy started up, now that was hilarious!!

Trite, inappropriate, ill-advised.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 04/02/2019 22:31

I can't get worked up about it

I don't understand why people don't like her

I'm ambivalent about the royals but still can't wee why people dislike her

I mean if you want to bitch about a royal Prince Philip has decades of seriously offensive blunders to get your teeth into

KurriKurri · 04/02/2019 22:37

I think there are much worse things she could do.

And it's got people talking about the charity and the work they do, so maybe she's cannier than people like to make out.

Costacoffeeplease · 04/02/2019 22:43

Yeah, maybe Confused

Never mind she’ll be on maternity leave soon

BlancheM · 04/02/2019 22:49

Ah, she did it as a kind gesture. She's not trying to fuck up anyone's day is she. I think she great.

TSSDNCOP · 04/02/2019 22:50

I write on my son’s lunchbox banana. He says it makes him smile.

A positive message on one always looks moreso as the banana itself looks like a smile.

Maybe it hit the mark with the recipient, maybe not. But it was a sweet thing to do and it got attention for the charity. Mission accomplished.

Costacoffeeplease · 04/02/2019 23:05

She may have fucked up harry’s, going by his expression

PortiaCastis · 04/02/2019 23:12

I think she meant well and she'll raise money for the charity, but whatever she does or doesn't do will never be right for some.

ohheyfreakingout · 04/02/2019 23:13

A lot has been made of harry’s expression - have I missed something? I didn’t see it!

I don’t think she meant anything but kindness by it but I think it was ill advised just in terms of the media - she’s already being given a hard time and obviously anything like this adds fuel to the fire. but I can’t get worked up about it, it obviously came from a good place.

AHeartTiedWithString · 04/02/2019 23:27

I don't understand why people don't like her

Really? I should think it's obvious. She's mixed race, she comes from a "broken home", she has an American accent and American cultural norms... all the things that white middle class Britain thinks are tacky and likes to imagine it's better than. People are always afraid of what's different.

Costacoffeeplease · 04/02/2019 23:34

Afraid? I don’t think so

SnotttyNosedSheila · 04/02/2019 23:41

She was doing something the charity asked her to do and something that the powers that be in the Royal Family must have agreed to. They don't do anything without approval.

Much like the Queen's lovely EU hat at the opening of the new parliament in 2017. The Royal Family don't do spontaneous. Everything is carefully planned and risk assessed.

AHeartTiedWithString · 04/02/2019 23:50

Afraid? I don’t think so
Not afraid of her individually, per se. But afraid of what she represents: the normalisation of biracial marriages, the creeping influence of American culture, the erosion of "traditional family values". It all adds up to disturb the status quo in a way that many people are very uncomfortable with.
(As to the original question in the OP, I think the banana messages were a lovely idea. It's impossible to perform a gesture that every recipient will love, but some of the women who receive those bananas will appreciate the spirit they were written in, and that makes it worthwhile IMHO.)

Skybooks · 04/02/2019 23:54

I was more confused buy the contents.

A blackcurrant fruitshoot, banana (now with writing), orange and a packet of walkers crisps.

Was it a kids packed lunch?

Costacoffeeplease · 04/02/2019 23:59

No sandwich or wrap, no houmus?

WarmthAndDepth · 05/02/2019 00:08

Seriously? I am as against the commodification of women's bodies as the next person, and massively object to the use of the term 'sex-worker'; the word is prostitute and consent cannot be bought. I can't imagine she is writing 'empowering' messages relating to validating the fact that these women are coerced into prostitution, I can only think that her message are ones of support and recognition of humanity. No?

lizzie1970a · 05/02/2019 02:08

She's very cheesy. Tries so hard to come over as sincere and just seems fake. Don't know if that's the actress in her or because she's American so to British people it doesn't translate. She tries too hard. Poses too much. For me it's nothing to do with her being mixed race. Just because people are bitching about her doesn't mean they don't bitch about other royals. I can't stand most of them.

MistressDeeCee · 05/02/2019 03:04

If she'd written on a post-it note, haters would still complain.

If she'd written on parchment, haters would still complain.

If she'd written no message at all, she'd have been deemed unsympathetic by the hate brigade.

I suspect that Meghan doesn't give a shiny shit about waspish, racist haters who squat in their covens waiting to comment negatively on all that she does tho.

As for even thinking sex workers will look at a banana and think "ooooh cock...!"...

Raise the mind out of the gutter

Returning2thesceneofthecrime · 05/02/2019 03:44

For fuck’s sake!

It was an impulsive gesture. She meant well, she did not mean any harm.

If she hadn’t done this or something similar, she would be criticised for being uptight and acting aloof and not really caring, just going through the motions.

God forbid the woman should have an independent thought and act on it.

KnitFastDieWarm · 05/02/2019 03:45

A blackcurrant fruitshoot, banana (now with writing), orange and a packet of walkers crisps.

Many of the women I worked with were opiate-dependant, which give you a) a very, very seeet tooth and b) not much appetite. We gave them food they would eat and enjoy, basically.

XmasPostmanBos · 05/02/2019 07:57

Having looked this up I see that Piers Morgan who mocked MM over this doesn't like her because she ditched him.

Mrscaindingle · 05/02/2019 08:07

I'm not a fan of Meghan and not in favour of the Royal Family in principle but think this was a well intentioned gesture and can't imagine the workers themselves were offended by it.
And yes to Piers Morgan having it in for her after she ghosted him when he thought they were besties. She probably didn't realise what a twat he was having never heard of him until she came to the UK.
