Perhaps it was a nice bought but would have perhaps been better to write on the oranges instead

I thought whilst well meant it was a bit patronising. The sex worker who spoke about it afterwards said something along the lines of “she has enough money to get us all off the streets, and she writes on a banana? What am I supposed to do with that.” And she has a point!

Costacoffeeplease · 05/02/2019 08:22

Completely patronising, and something you would do for a child, fair enough, but for adults Hmm

CallMeRachel · 05/02/2019 08:29

I think it was well intended but if I was desperate and and the streets having to sell my body to get my next meal/fix I would feel beyond help getting a message on a banana like that from a millionaire in a position of influence.

The Duchess could do so much more if she tried. How's a positive message going to help? 'You are loved' yeah...by who? I can't imagine how girls on the streets who have no loving families felt on reading some of this bollocks.

It was crass and utterly inappropriate.

Maybe one worker got the message and thought to themselves, "You know what, I am valuable!" and decided to get out of the industry.

I can imagine a lot of the streetwise women probably thought, yeh whatever Megan, but if it even encouraged one to see their worth, that's not a bad thing is it?

Costacoffeeplease · 05/02/2019 08:38

If it was that easy to get out of the ‘industry’ would she not have done so already?

Notmyrealname855 · 05/02/2019 08:39

Looked crass when the two of them are standing in clothes worth thousands, living in several properties that are being decorated to their tastes as we speak - all they had to do was listen. Just listen to what the organisation is about and then get the name out there. Both of them are idiots for not being able to say “we’ve actually been working with this organisation behind the scenes for a few weeks now, what a privilege to see it in person”. These flying visits are not very effective and suck up to the idea that royalty is a good thing.

I’m sorry pp, the organisation sounds amazing - and none of the posters here would be able to have told you the name from the royals’ visit alone. Why do we even have “royals”?! It’s obscene - they can be as nice as anything, but we’re basically saying the idea of one family being inherently better than any other is ok. It’s completely against feminism and democratic principles, and out of date. Once the queen goes, we need to wind this down. I mean all of them, btw, not just because of a new Californian :)

Donmesswime · 05/02/2019 09:22

Well, she could have sat on her arse at home and done nothing.

Costacoffeeplease · 05/02/2019 09:27

That would have been a better idea

It was ridiculous and patronising. She needs better PR advice

Banana770 · 06/02/2019 03:07

I thought it was quite American but I’m sure it was done with very good intentions.

ree348 · 06/02/2019 03:39

Shame there are people with dirty minds to lower the tone of what is a lovely gesture.

@hollowvictory

Oranges are not the only fruit

Brilliant. I’m sorry no one else acknowledged it!
