What do you remember watching on a Sunday as a kid?

Daughter and I have had our bath and I just had a flash of memory back to the days of watching Bullseye, songs of praise and Howard's way on a Sunday nights.

I even went on YouTube to put a bit of Bully on.. what is it with 6yr olds that don't appreciate old TV?

OP posts:

Howard’s way
Heartbeat
Chronicles of Narnia
The Box of Delights
The Muppet Show
Last of the Summer Wine
Bergerac
Juliet Bravo
Allo Allo
(Not completely sure the last three were Sunday nights...)

RomanyRoots · 03/02/2019 19:12

Black Beauty, follyfoot farm, Anne of Green Gables.

holasoydora · 03/02/2019 19:14

knitwit The Children of Green Knowe! ‘Twas amazing.

TarragonSauce · 03/02/2019 19:17

Black beauty, Muppets - whilst we had Sunday tea of salmon and shrimp paste sandwiches, tinned peaches with evaporated milk and crumpets.
Then we (a house full of teenage girls) would banish Dad to his bedroom to watch songs of praise or darts, Mum to the front room to get on with her knitting, whilst we put the charts on the radio and bopped about whilst washing up. If one of the parents happened to come into the kitchen during the top 40 there would be much tutting and head shaking over Boy George etc.

Brideshead revisited (the original one with Anthony Andrews).
Sunday night at the London Paladium.
Sometimes a bond film.
BBC adaptations of various Dicken’s novels at teatime.
Sunday afternoon classic black and white films.
That’s life (if I was allowed to stay up).
Sunday night was hair wash and finger and toenails trimmed ready for school. Sometimes a bar of bournville or Old Jamaica chocolate to share.

Sammysquiz · 03/02/2019 19:24

Lovejoy was on Sunday evenings.

KeyboardplayerXXX · 03/02/2019 19:25

Jewel in the Crown
Thorn Birds
Bergerac
Crazy like a Fox
House of Elliott
Bergerac
Howard's Way was my favourite though!

I used to hate Sunday night TV! It was always Dad's Army and Last of the Summer Wine. Accompanied by a roast dinner with veg that had been boiling since approx 9am and a total feeling of dread that I'd yet to start my homework and had PE first thing Monday. Even thinking about it now makes me feel sick!

An art programme (can't remember the name)

Roadrunner

Just William

Fawlty Towers

Heartbeat

The Darling Buds of May

Grandstand

cliffdiver · 03/02/2019 19:31

Oh and Where the Heart is!

autumnboys · 03/02/2019 19:32

Lots & lots of the things mentioned here, Robin Hood, definitely.

By the Sword Divided

They had an ostler with our surname, which was quite exciting. Also terrifying birth scenes alluded to, where our mum would assure us is wasn’t like that (turned out to be exactly like that, as it happens). I can still hum the theme tune & in fact did hum it to my sister this weekend. We were talking about How we Used to Live, which we watched at school - anyone remember that?

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 03/02/2019 19:36

In the morning it was the Henderson Kids, Land of the Giants, Little House on the Prairie and the Waltons. Evening was Sunday Sunday, Songs of Praise, Antiques Roadshow, Bullseye, Last of the Summer Wine. And I was just thinking about Supergran earlier! Can't remember if that was a Sunday programme though...

augustusglupe · 03/02/2019 19:40

Wait til your father gets home
Worzel Gummidge
Chips
Clayhanger (although I was little and mum wouldn’t let me watch cos it was ‘a bit racey’, but remember my older DSis’s talking about it)
Poldark
Bouquet of barbed wire (think it was Sunday) again, not allowed to watch!!
Howard’s Way

SagelyNodding · 03/02/2019 19:40

Ski Sunday, all winter!
The darling buds of May? Not sure which day that was.
The good series version of Pride and Prejudice.
The Borrowers, Happy Days, Narnia... TV on Sundays was always brilliant.

FuckBrussel · 03/02/2019 19:43

@Conifer, yes, me too! I used to sit and watch That's Life with such intense concentration, trying to make it last as long as possible, because after That's Life was bedtime, and after bedtime was Monday morning and German with the most intimidating teacher in the school...

Unevenbeard · 03/02/2019 19:45

Little House on the prairie and time team

imjustanerd · 03/02/2019 19:47

Poirot (9pm) then Hale and Pace (10pm), each theme tune came with the usual feeling of disappointment of it being the end of the weekend.

gib123 · 03/02/2019 19:53

Raffles

RangeRider · 03/02/2019 19:54

Police 5 and The Smurfs Grin
Happy days...

bibbitybobbityyhat · 03/02/2019 19:54

Black Beauty, with the best TV theme tune ever!

AnnaFiveTowns · 03/02/2019 19:58

Bullseye
Worzel Gummidge
Songs of Praise
Always at my nan's house

norrismcwhirtersfridgemagnet · 03/02/2019 19:59

Just William... with Bonnie Langford in it saying "I'm going to scream and scream until I'm sick" with a lisp.

3out · 03/02/2019 20:01

The Borrowers
The Lion the witch and the wardrobe
The Box of Delights
Little lord fauntleroy? (Vague memory)

Dad’s Army
Last of the Summer wine
Heartbeat

Morse (or was that Saturday?)

Midsomer Murders
Bergerac

Were the holiday programs on Sunday? Wish you were here, The Holiday Program
