What do you remember watching on a Sunday as a kid?

Daughter and I have had our bath and I just had a flash of memory back to the days of watching Bullseye, songs of praise and Howard's way on a Sunday nights.

I even went on YouTube to put a bit of Bully on.. what is it with 6yr olds that don't appreciate old TV?

Does anyone remember when the Krypton Factor was on? Was that a weekday show?

I only really remember it because my dad called it the "Crapped On" factor. But I seem to recall it being on when there was no school.

Loved those days. All it is now is shite reality tv

labazsisgoingmad · 07/02/2019 08:56

randall and hopkirk in the morning a repeat then so must have been old but it was good

Butterymuffin · 07/02/2019 09:12

I think Krypton Factor was a Monday?

A really good Twitter account for this stuff is @russty_russ - he posts lots of pictures of old TV listings so you can see what was on on a Sunday night in 1993 and so on. I will scroll back and have a look when I've got more time.

WeeTinkerMonkey · 07/02/2019 10:39

Butterymuffin

I've now followed him and found some of the old listings..

Amazingly, Saturday night prime time on ITV back in 1994 was Murder She Wrote.
Bet they wouldn't try that these days.

Miss Marple or Poirot. I think Keeping Up appearances used to come on sometimes as well. Also remember a BBC programme where someone would go through the BBC complaints of the week. Antiques roadshow, songs of praise- all the exciting stuff Grin.

outpinked · 07/02/2019 10:46

As a teen I watched T4 on a Sunday morning without fail.

Onetraumaatatimeplease · 07/02/2019 10:54

Sunday day was for tidying my bedroom. I used to watch land of the giants/the waltons/little house on the prairie and the holly oaks omnibus. Sunday evening was mums bingo night. Dad used to despatch me to the shop for a fox's five fruit and a packet of salt and vinegar squares then it was you rang m'lord followed by murder, she wrote/poirot/marple. I was not allowed to stay up and watch spitting image.

Onetraumaatatimeplease · 07/02/2019 12:01

I can't believe I forgot that's life. Anyone remember Esther's one woman campaign about guar gum.

RockyFlintstone · 07/02/2019 12:04

Highway with Harry Seacombe!

Well, didn't really watch it, I just remember it being on on a Sunday.

Even now the Ski Sunday theme tune gives me the Sunday Night Blues!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 07/02/2019 12:41

An art programme (can't remember the name) The South Bank Show? My, you were up late!

There was a series called "Slow Blows the Wind From France" when I was maybe 15yo There was a book set in WW2 called "Fair Blows the Wind for France" - was it that one? I loved the book.

Back in the day, my Mum and I would watch Songs of Praise together and she would critique the ladies' hats (that's how long ago it was!).

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it, but there was also a drama series called "The Brothers" which was very dull for a youngster.

Oh, and Dr Finlay's Casebook! (the 1960s/70s version). My mum always got the diagnosis correct..

DontCallMeCharlotte · 07/02/2019 12:49

Bella and Sebastian.

Belle & Sebastian was really weird. It was sort of dubbed into English by a bloke reading out the dialogue I think? There was also White Horses from the same stable (pun intended).

MissEliza · 07/02/2019 20:18

Antiques roadshow but it was on earlier. The theme music still makes me think of roast dinners and apple crumble!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 08/02/2019 14:35

The Onedin line was always on after the world about us... I'm 54

Flantastico · 08/02/2019 15:03

Sunday mornings were dedicated to watching The Disney Club. I remember Highway to Heaven with the double-denim angel, loved that. Bullseye was a staple too, although I was only really interested in seeing what delights were up for grabs on Bully's Prize Board ('and Bully's special priiiiiiiize...'). Oh, oh and at the end when the big prize was hauled into the studio (speedboat, Austin Metro), I loved that.

GallicosCats · 08/02/2019 16:24

I remember the theme tune to Ski Sunday! Also the 5pm period classics, usually Dickens. I was always missing the Muppet Show though because we were driving home, or we were still at my grandparents' house (and they had a rubbish B&W telly with two and a half channels, ITV might occasionally work if you banged the TV and stuck the aerial up someone's arse. Grin)

GallicosCats · 08/02/2019 16:25

Sorry, just realised how that last line looks. Blush

GallicosCats · 08/02/2019 16:28

Interestingly my mum had the same problem with the original Forsyte Saga that I had with the Muppets; we always missed it because Sunday lunch at the grandparents was compulsory.

Ronsters · 08/02/2019 17:17

A kids programme called The Sunday Gang, it may have had a religious edge and wasn't very good
My dad liked to watch The World at War
Then usually a period type drama, Poldark, etc. I remember one aimed more at kids called The Clifton House Mystery
That's Life later on

JPduck · 08/02/2019 18:22

One man and his dog 🐕

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/02/2019 19:36

Not really watching them, but they were on.
The love boat.
Albion market
Duty free
Spitting image
Bulls eye.
Surprise surprise.

Didyeeaye · 08/02/2019 22:49

I remember watching Heartbeat with a cup of tea and biscuit before going to bed 😀
