F**k me - I seriously overestimated my abilities this eve

The kids were messing around this eve doing 'gymnastics' (they're 2 and 6) and I decided I would try a somersault.

I used to do them all the time but that was 40 years ago.

My head landed on the mat then my neck kind of caved in on itself. I feel quite lucky I didn't do myself permanent damage and probably need to face up to how pathetically fat and unfit I've become (recovering from cancer too which I imagine didn't help much)

Off to practice my cartwheels now 🙄

The DC asked me if I could so a headstand the other day. Turns out I can. I can also do a cartwheel and walk on my hands. I had no idea.

Lordy you’re all better women than me, I get prepped in position to cartwheel or handstand and then the fear sets in so I wimp out. Same situation for never having been able to demonstrate to DD that my hyper mobility means I can wrap my leg round my neck. I’m just too bloody scared that middle age mum me will make a giant tit of myself in the best case, and end up stick or in hospital in the worst case.

So I say bravo op, your bravery is an excellent example to your DC Grin

I'm 54 and I probably could still do a head stand, however last time I did one to prove to DCs I was capable the blood rush to my head was intense.

I did a simple forward roll last night and after wimping out the first time I had to sit for a minute and recover from the dizziness when actually did it on the second attempt

I distinctly remember the last time I did a cartwheel. 8 years ago at DDs ‘gymnastics’ Party. I felt every single vertebrae crack one by one. Never been the same since.

Am nearly 35 and tried to encourage DS to scooter down a slope at the skate park over the summer by demonstrating how simple it was.

Long story short, I wiped out in front of a double-figure group of teenagers and DS is afraid of scooters now.

I did a forward roll ( somersault as it used to be called in the old days ) and felt very giddy afterwards
However , after proving I could do the same thing underwater I felt faint for about a week

Over Christmas I tried to show my kids how I did handstands as a kid up against a wall

Yeah, I can’t do it anymore

I started off too close to the wall - nearly knocked myself out

I went to a trampoline park with my kids the other week. We were watching the very sensible safety video which at the very end said in a very knowing voice"adults, today is not the day to attempt to do the stunts you were able to do as a child". That did make me laugh.
I stuck to very gentle jumping whilst my kids flung themselves all over the place.

I ran as fast as I could against my children last summer - I felt like my fillings were going to rattle out of my teeth, my boobs were virtually hitting my chin and my knees were screaming with every step. I used to be one of the best sprinters in my school, now I'm a mess and I'm only in my 40s Sad. Too much hard living over the last thirty few years.

I tried to do a tumble turn in the local pool the other day.
Came up gasping and spluttering. ..thought the lifeguard was going to bring me oxygen.
DD1 then demonstrated a textbook one.

I very nearly drowned when showing the kids how to do an underwater somersault. Then I tore a muscle in my groin showing them that I could still do a cartwheel. Note to self - you are no longer 10.

I tried to do the Madonna dance from the 'Beautiful Stranger ' video the other day. Fuck, I've been dosed up on ibuprofen and Voltarol gel ever since.
