F**k me - I seriously overestimated my abilities this eve

The kids were messing around this eve doing 'gymnastics' (they're 2 and 6) and I decided I would try a somersault.

I used to do them all the time but that was 40 years ago.

My head landed on the mat then my neck kind of caved in on itself. I feel quite lucky I didn't do myself permanent damage and probably need to face up to how pathetically fat and unfit I've become (recovering from cancer too which I imagine didn't help much)

Off to practice my cartwheels now 🙄

I learned how to do flippies last year. At an adult gymnastics class. #smug

In the summer though dh and I were at a wedding. We were dancing and the dance floor somehow turned into a dance off. Friends mum was goading everyone about how she was going to win as she’d been a champ disco dancer years ago. “Fuck that” wine fuelled me thought “I’m going to do a flip and drop into splits” the flip was fine (aside from the fact I had to tuck most of my dress into my pants) but I couldn’t get up from the splits. Dfriend s mum shouted at everyone to help me because I’d “split my fanny” I hadn’t. But man....

Dh was both impressed and mortified at the same time. He’s vowed never to let me do an impromptu dance off again. Spoilsport

That's definitely a forwards roll op. I thought you'd tried to do an actual somersault. It won't let me add a picture but like a forwards roll but in mid air. Like a back flip but in reverse.

I'm determined to learn how to do one this year.

Cocolepew · 02/02/2019 21:08

I think these are somersaults
Have you got a leotard Showy?

I've got the slightly devil may care attitude of a middle aged woman who knows the best years of her agile life are behind her and isn't quite ready to admit it. Same thing, right?

Pmsl at this thread😂
Last night at an 80s night my friend and I attempted to recreate our youth by jumping off a chair to the song jump. I played it safe as it looked an awfully long way down when I was up there. I managed a heavy step on the floor followed by a lengthy stagger.

Binglebong · 02/02/2019 23:05

Thanks to this thread I've discovered I can still do a forward roll on the bed to reduce injuries But my God I'm dizzy!

Introvertedmum · 02/02/2019 23:45

I went on a fairground ride last summer and the man stopped it half way and half-hauled me off to the intense mortification of my dc and dh.

Oh and may I suggest avoiding hula hoops? I think I paid for my chiropractor’s summer holiday with that demonstration

Cocolepew · 02/02/2019 23:49

Absolutely SOH Smile.
I tried to do and cartwheel a couple of years ago but my wrists let me down and I face planted the pavement. I took the skin of my chin and peed myself.

Shodan · 02/02/2019 23:57

I do a lot of karate so am fairly supple and fit, but there is one thing I cannot do and that's any kind of spinning kick.

I can manage one with reasonable accuracy and grace, but subsequent attempts leave me kicking furiously at thin air as I twirl off on a diagonal tangent, getting redder and sweatier as I try to undizzy myself...

Ifangyow · 03/02/2019 03:46

To be fair, I do an impressive salka after a few vodkas 😂

labazsisgoingmad · 03/02/2019 04:41

all i can do to get out my chair never mind trying to recapture my youth

Eponymous · 03/02/2019 06:25

Last year, I decided to scooter to school with dd. I misjudged a broken bit of pavement and went from vertical to horizontal in a shockingly brief amount of time.

My hand got trapped under me, palm facing me, fingers bent backwards so far they were touching the back of my wrist.
I feel 🤢 just thinking about it.

I thought I'd broken every finger in my hand.
I hadn't but 10 months later I still can't fully curl up my fingers. Too embarrassed to go to gp.

Whoever it was that bought the skipping rope and wet themselves...you are my people!
I got a skipping rope for Xmas all ready to get fit in the new year...I cannot lift off the floor😬...

This thread is awesome. Bravo 👏🏻

I’m only 32, used to be bit of a gymnast in my youth, I can still get my legs over my head but any kind of action move will not end well. I’ll just leave it to all of you to try out Grin

Mrs3ss · 03/02/2019 16:16

Oh actually, I did try the trampoline last summer, my youngest is 6 and I still pissed myself, my pelvic floor is shot.
