F**k me - I seriously overestimated my abilities this eve

The kids were messing around this eve doing 'gymnastics' (they're 2 and 6) and I decided I would try a somersault.

I used to do them all the time but that was 40 years ago.

My head landed on the mat then my neck kind of caved in on itself. I feel quite lucky I didn't do myself permanent damage and probably need to face up to how pathetically fat and unfit I've become (recovering from cancer too which I imagine didn't help much)

Off to practice my cartwheels now 🙄

Dh a few years ago on Xmas day decided to show son that he could manage a four brick and plank ramp on sons new bmx......

He couldn't and actually skidded under his own car, he was cross when I asked was the new bike OK.
Bike was fine, he had less skin on his arms than he started with and has not ridden since.

QueenOfThorns · 01/02/2019 22:42

I think I’ve found my people! I had a headache for 2 days after doing a somersault in the swimming pool recently. Shock

WhoKnewBeefStew · 01/02/2019 22:44

Step away from the cartwheels!!!! I decided last year to show my dd how great I was at cartwheels an pulled a muscle in BOTH thighs Blush

PuddleglumtheMarshWiggle · 01/02/2019 22:46

Me and Dd performed the can can at a friend's wedding last year. High kick, cartwheels and the splits. She's 22 and I'm 54!
I practise my cartwheels in the garden every summer to make sure I can still do them!

goingtotown · 01/02/2019 22:50

Bought a skipping rope to get fitter & wet myself.

Butterymuffin · 01/02/2019 22:50

I went on with the kids at a trampoline park last year and deeply regretted it during the weeks of muscle pain and swollen legs afterwards.

Believeitornot · 01/02/2019 22:53

Massive silent sniggers here as dh is asleep

I tried cartwheels last summer. Wow I’m unfit but made me get running again.

ENormaSnob · 01/02/2019 22:58

Tried an arab spring aged 11...not bad, but not good.

Arab spring at aged 34...didn't actually leave the ground.

Scifi101 · 01/02/2019 23:01

@goingtotown

That made me laugh!

Chesntoots · 01/02/2019 23:04

I've just tried doing a crab (dodgy shoulder so didn't think I could manage it!)

The upshot is that I can still do a crab, however my feeling of triumph was short lived due to the massive fart I let out when lowering myself down.

Maybe I'm not ready for the Olympics yet...

eagleray · 01/02/2019 23:06

@Chesntoots perhaps there should be a Mumsnet olympics with shit cartwheels and farting crabs?

At a conference last week, everyone on stage for a group photo, most folk just jumped down from the stage at the end but I traipsed to the end of the stage and descended the stairs whilst holding onto the rail.... I know my limits Smile

I'm in my 40s 🤫

autumnboys · 01/02/2019 23:08

I demonstrated my backwards somersault in the water to the DC in a French lake on holiday this summer. Both my calves cramped up as I pushed myself up off the sandy bottom, I was bloody lucky to be in my depth or I would have drowned my stupid self.

Chesntoots · 01/02/2019 23:08

I would be on that podium for sure!! (As long as they provided a ramp to get up there...)

ChickiePeaPie · 01/02/2019 23:13

perhaps there should be a Mumsnet olympics with shit cartwheels and farting crabs?

Snapped and farted! Grin

Oddcat · 01/02/2019 23:14

I wonder why as adults we get so dizzy doing a forward roll and kids don’t ?

I tried a while ago to spin round and round ( like we did as kids to get dizzy and walk wonky ) . I managed half a turn and had to hang over the sink because I felt so sick . I was indoors on my own , I have no idea what possessed me !

userschmoozer · 01/02/2019 23:16

I tried to demonstrate how to sit cross legged then stand up without holding on to anything and discovered I couldn't stand up at all. I ended up wheezing face down on a chair.
Bastardly DF found it utterly hilarious.

EduCated · 01/02/2019 23:22

I never managed a cartwheel as a child, I definitely don’t think now is the time for me to start Grin

I can still do a slightly pathetic forward flip on a bouncy castle though. As in I can sort of fling myself over and land flat on my back Blush

Bodear · 01/02/2019 23:25

Puddleglum misses point of thread......

Last time I tried a cartwheel I limped for days and that was years ago!!

HelloDarlin · 01/02/2019 23:25

Snapped and farted... Ha ha!

I’ve been thinking about taking up yoga again as I can barely get up the stairs... But I keep having visions of my lovely-young-yoga-bendy self reaching well past my toes.

If that girl could see me now!
It doesn’t even seem that long ago...

MrsBungle · 01/02/2019 23:29

I demonstrated a forward roll to dd a couple of years ago. Such a simple, easy thing I remembered. Well, I heard every gone crack in my neck and I genuinely wondered if I might have broken it for a moment

MrsBungle · 01/02/2019 23:30

*bone not effing gone

MamehaSan · 01/02/2019 23:38

I've found my people. I demonstrated a forward roll to DS a couple of months ago, felt my back crunch as I went over and had to lay on the floor for 20 minutes while it un-siezed. It wasn't quite the effect I was going for Confused. FFS I'm nearly not yet 40

MamehaSan · 01/02/2019 23:40

Cross post with @MrsBungle clearly forward rolls are more technical than you realise Grin

MrsBungle · 01/02/2019 23:43

@mamehasan obviously! Grin !
