I have been to 4
England
Scotland
Wales
France

OP posts:
KatherinaMinola · 29/01/2019 13:02

16 actual countries I think.

(Not counting stopovers and not counting Greek islands separately.)

kaytee87 · 29/01/2019 13:15

But a 25 year old having done 20 countries would be pretty extreme

What if they'd been going abroad with their parents their whole life?
My 2yo has already been to 4 countries. We tend to revisit places we like though but some people maybe go to a new country every year.

sollyfromsurrey · 29/01/2019 13:19

Lol, people listing things like Menorca, Mallorca, Ibiza like they are different countries. It's like listing all the counties in the UK as separate countries Grin

slug · 29/01/2019 14:04

47 at last count, though I may have missed a few.

New Zealand
Thailand
England
Ireland
Scotland
Wales (I'm not from the UK so I claim all of these including Northern Ireland and Eire)
Australia
USA
France
Belgium
Germany
Latvia
Lithuiana
Belarus
Russia
Mongolia
China
Japan
Vietnam
Cambodia
Poland
Slovenia
Hungary
Czech Republic
Netherlands
Denmark
Norway
Sweden
Hong Kong
Ukraine
Romania
Bulgaria
Turkey
Spain
Portugal
Croatia
Greece
Slovakia
Estonia
United Arab Emirates
South Korea
Malaysia
Singapore
Fiji
Vanuatu
Mexico
Canada
Italy

Most of these have been with DH and DD in tow. We are looking at Georgia for a holiday this year

SimplySteve · 29/01/2019 14:46

But a 25 year old having done 20 countries would be pretty extreme

I'd done roughly 35 countries by 25.

MariaNovella · 29/01/2019 14:54

My DD is 14 and she has been to:

England
Scotland
France
Belgium
Netherlands
Luxembourg
Germany
Austria
Italy
Greece
Spain
Portugal
Morocco
US

She has been to most of those countries multiple times. So I’m not sure that 20 countries at 25 is unlikely.

Pretamum · 29/01/2019 14:56

I've been to:

England
France
Spain
Portugal
Belgium
USA
Cuba
Mauritius
South Africa

So 9.... hopeful to add a lot more to the list soon!

caperplips · 29/01/2019 15:24

1 Ireland
2 England
3 Scotland
4 Isle of Man
5 France
6 Germany
7 Belgium
8 The Netherlands
9 Hungary
10 The Czech Republic
11 Poland
12 Germany
13 Italy
14 Spain
15 Portugal
16 The Vatican City
17 Monaco
18 USA (6 states)
19 Australia
20 Tasmania
21 China
22 Canada
23 Thailand
24 Singapore
25 Northern Ireland
26 Yugoslavia (as it was when I visited)
27 Canary Islands
28 Balearic Islands (not sure these are admissable!)

Many of these I have visited multiple times (Australia 6 times, USA 3 times, Italy 10 times etc and multiple cities / regions within these countries etc

Top of my list still to visit is Russia and Japan!

caperplips · 29/01/2019 15:28

My dd recently 13 and has been to:
1 Ireland
2 England
3 Spain
4 France
5 Germany
6 Czech Republic
7 Hungary
8 Poland
9 Italy
10 Australia (5 times)
11 Thailand
12 Canada
13 Northern Ireland
14 Balearic Islands
15 Tasmania
16 Singapore

And some of them multiple times and to more than 1 city / region too.

PenguinPandas · 29/01/2019 15:31

.Mine are 13 and 12 and have been to England, Wales, France, Australia, Costa Rica, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Portugal, Cyprus, Spain, Italy, Finland so about one country a year so 20 by 25 is not unlikely, adding Norway this year. I saw survey saying average is 7 outside UK though find that low but probably varies by area.

I forgot Greece (Kos) and Austria in mine. Greece was probably best forgotten but Austria is lovely.

KamilaKarmin22 · 29/01/2019 15:35

What's the point of asking such a question? I'm serious. Maybe instead of asking just about the number would be great to know what you girls have been doing there and if those places are worth visiting. That would be so cool!

keely79 · 29/01/2019 15:42

I've also stopped at a motorway service station in Luxemburg and driven through part of Germany but didn't stop.

northdownmummy · 29/01/2019 15:46

I'm at 54 but since having children I've added nowhere new for the last 5 years. Realistically they'll need to be in Uni before I can start ticking off some more from my wish list. Looking at a work map there's a big gap for me in central Asia, I'd live to explore the 'stans

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 29/01/2019 15:47

31!

You can't count islands that belong to a country (eg Ibiza or the Canaries belong to Spain) and no layover countries count (ie. overnights in airports).

I have strict rules!

dramalamma · 29/01/2019 15:49

63 I think - I counted a few years ago but I think that was the number - the important thing was that it was more than DH! but more if I can count the ones I've only stopped off in! Our rule is, if you didn't leave the airport it didn't count. Not so impressive now but I did a lot of them as a child so I was a very well travelled 20 year old!

KatherinaMinola · 29/01/2019 16:07

But a 25 year old having done 20 countries would be pretty extreme

Not really. I'd been to 13 countries by the time I was 25. I've been less adventurous since, mainly going back to places I enjoyed then.

Iamnuts · 29/01/2019 16:10

Rough count @ 31 and lived in seven.

caperplips · 29/01/2019 16:13

Kamila everywhere on my list is 'worth' visiting because I saw and experienced interesting things in each one of them.

I said similar on the 'best / worst places you have been on holiday thread' - I have never had a bad holiday / trip as we have found thing in each place that we would not have seen if we had stayed at home.

Mine are mostly holidays, with a couple of project trips for dh thrown in where we accompanied him as frequently away for 3 / 4 months in each place and before dc in school we went with him

jarviscockatiel · 29/01/2019 16:21

Either 58 or 59 - keep losing track! Only done one country in Africa and one in South America though. Must try harder!

Ffsnosexallowed · 29/01/2019 16:22

The 4 home countries. Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria,Greece, Italy, Canada, USA, Mexico, Spain, Bulgaria, Poland, Holland. Think that's it.
