C0untDucku1a · 29/01/2019 21:41

Two that just shows your reasoning is a bit shit too. They are separate countries.

Twomonthstogo · 29/01/2019 21:41

and still all represented in UK parliament, depends in your definition of a country really.

Twomonthstogo · 29/01/2019 21:42

Count I PURPOSELY put first language

SinceYouAskMe · 29/01/2019 21:44

13 Europe (counting the UK as one because it’s just one nation state)
2 Africa
2 Asia
USA
So 18

C0untDucku1a · 29/01/2019 21:45

Actually no it doesn't depend on MY definition of a country. Or YOUR definition of a country. It depends on the ACTUAL DEFINITION. They are separate countries .

MyOtherProfile · 29/01/2019 21:46

@Twomonthstogo you don't need a passport to go between france and Belgium and they soeak the same language.

Twomonthstogo · 29/01/2019 21:46

Whatever Smile

MyOtherProfile · 29/01/2019 21:48

I bet Belgians everywhere will be delighted to discover they actually come from the same country as France Grin

Twomonthstogo · 29/01/2019 21:48

But all the nation states of the UK have the same passports where as obviously the French and Belgians don't.

Twomonthstogo · 29/01/2019 21:49

Not having to show your passport doesn't mean they are the same.

We are a unitary sovereign state, obviously France and Belgium aren't. They have an agreement whereby they can cross each other's borders without having to show passports. Wasn't always that way. Anyhow, I'm not looking for an argument, it's an interesting point of discussion though.

C0untDucku1a · 29/01/2019 21:54

Twomonthstogo honestly, you're wrong. A quick google will tell you you're wrong. I appreciate you're embarrassed but let it go. You've learnt something new. Call it a win.

Twomonthstogo · 29/01/2019 21:55

If you insist that they are different countries then, for the benefit of the tally I'm adding them to my total which is now 35 in that case Wink

Twomonthstogo · 29/01/2019 21:56

I could copy a load of stuff to show that I'm in fact correct but really cannot be arsed. Good day to you Smile

MyOtherProfile · 29/01/2019 21:57

You just changed the goalposts that you set in.your earlier post!

C0untDucku1a · 29/01/2019 21:57

Not me. Im not insisting theyre different countries. They are different countries.

SinceYouAskMe · 29/01/2019 22:00

I’m playing by Pointless rules,
“And by country we mean a sovereign state which is a member of the UN in its own right”.

This rules out the constituent countries of the UK, the Isle of Man, Gibraltar, the Balearics and, most disappointingly, the Vatican City.

I’ve just remembered that when I visited Kenya we did a safari that went just over the border into either Uganda or Tanzania for fifteen minutes. Does it count towards my total if I can’t remember which it was? Grin

I’m not counting countries where I didn’t leave the plane/airport.

Curlyshabtree · 29/01/2019 22:01

My 50 were by travelling (2 inter rail trips aged 16 & 18), lived in Far East for 5 years. Had a job that involved travel then worked in travel.
Travel was very much a passion - have no money now, spent what I had on seeing the world!
Today I booked a trip to Paris and we’re planning a road trip to Croatia in the summer. My dts (10) have been to 10 countries already.

Lovelyflowerstoday · 29/01/2019 22:04

What does Pointless say about the issue of England, Wales, NI and Scotland being or not being separate countries?

Budgensbabe · 29/01/2019 22:05

Youmadorwhat · 29/01/2019 22:06

@Myotherprofile
Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland are not independent countries but are four somewhat autonomous regions which are part of the country known as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or just United Kingdom for short”

Also not entirely recognized by the UN:
The status of Scotland is not really comparable to that of the US states, but it is similar. It is identical in that the UN and other countries will not deal directly with Scotland unless invited by Westminster to do so. To this end, Scotland has no embassies and no own representation at the UN.

Within the United Kingdom, a unitary sovereign state, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales have gained a degree of autonomy through the process of devolution. ... England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are not themselves listed in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) list of countries

HeronLanyon · 29/01/2019 22:06

Ok so Vatican City comes off my list. Confused. I had trouble also with historical shakeups. I counted countries as they are now. Ie went to east Germany as a child (as well as west) but subsumed that in my ‘germany’. Also Yugoslavia which would now count me 3 or 4(?) but for some reason went the other way with that one and just counted ‘yugoslavia’. Hmmm complex! By the way did not count any Spanish or Indian or Turkish or Greek islands as separate countries not even Andaman Islands which are so a world apart from India they feel it !!!
