Ah clarity then re England, Wales, Scotland and NI. I didn't think Gibraltar would be allowed either in all fairness.

huggybear · 29/01/2019 22:10

There's some interesting geography going on on this thread...

Twomonthstogo · 29/01/2019 22:11

I put Yugoslavia too as just one visited as it was back then in the 1980's but have been to 4 of the now separate countries.

SinceYouAskMe · 29/01/2019 22:11

Pointless rules are not the only possible choice of definition, but they are at least definitive. And yes, the UK is a country under that definition but England et al are not.

HeronLanyon · 29/01/2019 22:12

You could kind of count 5 ?? Or just the 4? I haven’t been back to any I think since so my 1 made sense to me I’m illogical way given my Germany count.

Twomonthstogo · 29/01/2019 22:12

I think it's very interesting in all honesty as does bring up fascinating questions.

HeronLanyon · 29/01/2019 22:13

Sorry that was for twomonthstogo

Twomonthstogo · 29/01/2019 22:14

I can't remember exactly which countries I went to in the former Yugoslavia, but we weren't allowed into Albania.

Twomonthstogo · 29/01/2019 22:15

Heron yes, no hard or fast rules I guess!

@Youmadorwhat
The Welsh Government says: "Wales is not a Principality. Although we are joined with England by land, and we are part of Great Britain, Wales is a country in its own right."

Coffeebean76 · 29/01/2019 22:33

65

Lovelyflowerstoday · 29/01/2019 22:35

England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are not themselves listed in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) list of countries

MamaDane · 29/01/2019 22:43

15

Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Croatia, Greece, Spain (Well the Canary Islands), Poland, Czech Republic, Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Indonesia, Japan.

I've been to more countries but not significantly long enough for them to count really, either just passing through or stopovers. Singapore, Finland, central Europe etc.

I'm from Denmark though, so not sure if Denmark counts Grin

dubmumof2 · 29/01/2019 23:15

Quick tot yields 24 - over 4 continents. Not a huge list and I'm pretty sure I will probably add to it over time but I can't say that I'm going to be too disappointed if I don't. I've enjoyed seeing a wide range of landscapes, experiencing different cultures & foods etc and I'm pretty sure it's made me less insular and more open and tolerant. But if I never add to that list, I think I can live with that Smile

Kazzyhoward · 30/01/2019 08:45

England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are not themselves listed in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) list of countries

That doesn't stop them being countries on their own right though. They are politically part of the UK, geographically part of Great Britain, but they are still separate countries. For example, Scotland has its own laws completely different to England and Wales - and that goes back a lot longer in time than the relatively recent Scottish Parliament/devolution etc.

AlbusPercival · 30/01/2019 08:56

England
Wales
Scotland
Republic of Ireland
Denmark
