Does anyone else feel embarrassed buying.....

Condoms? I know it's silly, I'm a grown up with a child but still I feel embarrassed.
Called to the supermarket this morning for a few things, Dp reminded me needed some. Thought fine I don't need much will do to self serve save my embarrassment. Picked up a bottle of wine so of course they have to authorise it and the guy wanted to check id. Fair enough but he looks in the bag I've already packed and all I've got in there is condoms and squirty cream (not for that, I just really fancied a hot chocolate with cream).

I'm sure he was smirking and then I got flustered because I couldn't get my drivers licence out of my purse and I could feel myself blushing Blush

I got home and told Dp I'm not buying them anymore, he thinks it's hilarious but suspiciously always seems to forget to pick them up himself.

Not really, though I usually just put them in the delivery order.

I would be embarrassed buying condoms, wine and squirty cream together (and nothing else!) though!

Sausagefingers9 · 26/01/2019 14:50

Same! No idea why, I didn’t feel shy when sorting contraception like the pill with my dr, but something about buying condoms makes me feel 14 again!

GirlOnIt · 26/01/2019 14:54

I was buying more stuff, I'd just put those things in my bag the other stuff was in the basket.

I'm the same, absolutely fine going to the gp about contraception. Don't know why I find buying condoms so embarrassing.

The dr can give them to you for free.

LeslieYep · 26/01/2019 15:00

We get them from Amazon! We like a particular brand/type and bought a massive supply that will probably go out of date before get through them thanks to pregnancy then newborn!

CocoMadwoman · 26/01/2019 15:02

I don’t find it embarrassing buying condoms...but I think you’re brave to buy only rubbers, wine & squirty cream Grin.

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 26/01/2019 15:11

That's quite a collection of items, op.

Probably not so embarrassing when bought with the weekly shop.

EmmaJR1 · 26/01/2019 15:12

A couple of years ago dh and I bought a "toy" from Ann Summers then went to Boots to buy a bLood pressure monitor and got condoms whilst there.
Did self service and used the bag we had already with the toy in. The self service thing wouldn't accept the weight of the bag and the cashier had to come over and check it all!
I found it hilarious but dh was mortified.

What kind of sex were we going to be having that required a bp monitor?!? 😂

EmmaJR1 · 26/01/2019 15:13

Also groupon sell bulk batches of condoms that are posted to you! I got 54 for £16!

Holidayshopping · 26/01/2019 15:15

A packet of condoms with your weekly shop isn’t embarrassing at all.

Buying squirty cream, condoms and wine though-what were you thinking?! Grin

GirlOnIt · 26/01/2019 15:16

I had nappies, cheese and bread as well! I didn't think he'd look in the bag because I hadn't bagged the wine, thought he'd just do the approval thing.

Might have to try a amazon order.

I don't like getting them with the shop though. Think it's worse when they have to pick them up and scan them.

And cable ties Grin
If I was serving and someone had condoms and squirt cream id be hard pressed not to grin. And maybe asked if you had anything nice planned for the weekend

GirlOnIt · 26/01/2019 15:31

I know not the best combo. But that's why I'd scanned those two things first and put them in the bag!

You can order them online for free. I think pretty much all the NHS boards offer some sort of free online service. Here's one (I picked one at random - NHS Forth Valley): www.freecondomscentral.co.uk

They're pretty expensive otherwise.

Scienceforthewin · 26/01/2019 15:34

I was working in a small garage on a slow Sunday, mainly chatting behind the till. The other lady was saying there is nothing for younger people to do in our area, when in walks a chap who asked for a pack of condoms. Guess he found something to do 😂

Dahlietta · 26/01/2019 15:35

Use the self checkout!

GirlOnIt · 26/01/2019 15:37

Oh wow Passing, you can even order different types/flavours. Might have to look into that!

I feel a bit bad though as I guess they cost the NHS a fair bit.

LeSquigh · 26/01/2019 15:39

For all those recommending that people get them for free from the doctor or elsewhere, they are not free, they are being paid for by the taxpayer and the massively underfunded NHS. It is as bad as getting prescriptions for paracetamol and anything else that can be purchased over the counter. It is one of the many reasons that the NHS is in the state it’s in. Please don’t do it unless you genuinely cannot afford it and have no other option.

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 26/01/2019 15:42

This has really made me smile. Come on, you can understand why he smirked, I definitely would have done. Grin

Elderflower14 · 26/01/2019 15:43

Many years ago my sister bought an American guy (friend) home from uni for a visit. I took him shopping in our local market town where everyone knows every one . We went into the chemist's and he suddenly shouted really loudly "Hey Charl, do they sell condoms in here??" V embarrassed 16 year old me fled. He took me to the florist and bought me a rose to apologise. He was sadly killed in a car crash in America a few years later. 😔 😔 😔

ohtheholidays · 26/01/2019 15:44

No,I've been buying them since I was 16,my then boyfriend(went onto be my Husband now ex)wouldn't buy them the wuss,he was 18.

I've bought them for my oldest DS's 22 and 20 since they started needing them, they'd buy them themselves but I was shopping so picked them up for them whilst I was shopping.

DustyMaiden · 26/01/2019 15:46

LeslieYep That’s not a good advertisement for Amazon condoms Grin

2LitreBottle · 26/01/2019 15:46

Always annoyed me that I was the one who had to buy lube, but I do a big supermarket shop and DP tends to just pop to his local shop for that nights dinner, so easier to hide I guess! I’d bury it amongst shampoo and tampons etc and carefully choose my cashier so as not to get a young one - I figured older women would get it!

The one time I made him buy it, we were in Egypt on holiday and we’d run out (we both like it for handy stuff!) and we went into a little newsagent type shop being manned by a youngish man, with a bunch of his mates loitering in there.

DP pointed to the Durex strawberry sauce on the shelf behind the till and the guys all roared and started patting him on the back BlushGrin. He laughed along and went bright red, I left the shop and waited outside as they took his money and cheered him on his way. Worst part, the bottle on the bedside table featured in several of our holiday snaps of us in the room, which I didn’t notice until after I’d posted them all on Facebook.
