southernetter · 27/01/2019 09:36

Yvette Cooper

NRPDad · 27/01/2019 09:46

Jeremy Corbyn or Gordon Brown

RebelWitchFace · 27/01/2019 10:03

Princess Consuela BananaHammock.

Those nominating Mhairi Black, why would you want someone who doesn’t even want to be part of the U.K. being prime minster of the U.K.?

SinceYouAskMe · 27/01/2019 10:54

The OP’s motives don’t really matter - it’s an interesting thread which has got us talking about what we look for as a PM, a politician and an international negotiator, and makes an interesting comparison with the last time it was run a couple of months ago. I was prompted to ask DH for his opinion and he came up with some names I’d never even thought of (he happens to be a much more attentive politics follower than I am) and the Yvette Cooper love has been informative.

My impression from memory, having not gone back and checked is that Starmer has fallen back somewhat since the last thread because Labour’s position on Brexit is lacking in appeal, and Corbyn’s personal support seems to have haemorrhaged despite a massive Commons defeat for May followed up with running a No Confidence vote as the internet asked him to (and in which we saw exactly why he’d resisted running it before).

Mulberryandthyme · 27/01/2019 11:00

Diane Abbott

StoorieHoose · 27/01/2019 11:13

Perhaps the ones mentioning Mhairi Black are Scottish??

Twodogsdancing · 27/01/2019 11:17

David Lammy - one of the few politicians with integrity.

Mrsrockwell · 27/01/2019 11:20

There really is NOBODY.

Barack Obama would be the only one I’d actually like.

ChasedByBees · 27/01/2019 11:22

Anna Soubry or Kier Starmer.

"Those nominating Mhairi Black, why would you want someone who doesn’t even want to be part of the U.K. being prime minster of the U.K.?" Because aside from that she genuinely cares for her constituents and the disenfranchised generally. I live not far from her constituency and I've heard nothing but good things about her from there. She has passion and is plain speaking, she doesn't "Fanny about" with what she says about what she believes in.

Santaclarita · 27/01/2019 16:21

Isn't mhairi black the one who said she'd like to punch labour/tory mps? Hardly a great option for pm.

Abra1de · 27/01/2019 16:27

The ‘aside from that’ is rather a big thing!

StoorieHoose · 27/01/2019 16:31

Santaclarita can you point me in the direction of where you found her saying that? I’ve had a google and can’t find anything

PatPhoenix · 27/01/2019 16:37

Quite a few. maybe I'm unusual in thinking that lots of politicians have integrity and in any case integrity is not the only quality needed in politicians. Corbyn has lots of integrity imo but is an utterly useless party boss, salesman and people manager.

I think Yvette Cooper could do a good job because she is organised, reasonably ruthless and a bit of a scrapper. I'd be interested to see Amber Rudd have a go but not sure she's really willing to lever up the paving stones and put the bodies underneath. Yvette would. I still think her amendment is a dangerous punt though and she should have voted for the WA.

Santaclarita · 27/01/2019 16:48

StoorieHoose I can't find it either now. It was when she was first elected so 2012? I'm sure I saw her respond to a Labour or tory mp that she would like to knock them out. Definitely remember it because a friend of mine thought she was fantastic and I wasn't impressed by her threatening people.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/01/2019 16:56

Corbyn has lots of integrity imo but is an utterly useless party boss, salesman and people manager.

I've heard from a well informed source that Corbyn used to dump blame for his mistakes on hapless council employees. So the second part of that sounds right, but scrap the idea he has 'integrity'.

I can't imagine anyone with any sense wanting the job of PM at the moment.

2cats2many · 27/01/2019 16:58

Yvette Cooper.

theduchessstill · 27/01/2019 16:59

I thought the punch comment from MB was in relation to the Scottish referendum and she'd said she wanted to 'deck' people who voted no. Not sure if it's true but I remember reading about it at the time I think.

Santaclarita · 27/01/2019 17:10

theduchessstill oh it might be that. Still not great that she thinks it's fine to be violent just because people don't agree with her.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 27/01/2019 17:12

Ken, Vince, Yvette...someone sane!
