What do you think SHOULD have been invented by now?

Yet again, I set the Sky box to record a programme, it says it's done it, but when I go to watch it, all that's been recorded is half an hour of over-run news.

Surely we must by now have the technology for the Sky box to know that the previous programme has gone on longer than it was scheduled for, and to wait until the programme I want has actually started before recording?

Likewise, it shouldn't need to record 5 minutes at the start and end of everything.

Drives me nuts!

Does anyone else have any things that they think "We MUST be able to do that by now!"? I don't so much mean things that we wish had been invented, just things that we think should have been.

I don't know about the overrun news thing but ypu can change when recording starts/finishes so you get less crap at either end of your actual programme.

DarlingNikita · 24/01/2019 11:55

I agree with you, OP.

On possibly a more serious note, it's about time they invented a proper cure for the dreadful PMS and period pains a lot of women have to just put up with.

averylongtimeago · 24/01/2019 12:00

Reliable, pollution free, renewable energy source. That's also cheap.

3boysandabump · 24/01/2019 12:02

As pp has said you can change when the box starts and ends recordings. Don't know about the previous program overrunning that's never happened to me before.

FurryDogMother · 24/01/2019 12:02

Washing up liquid for hard water areas so you can get shiny glassware without horrible marks on it. I was looking for some this week, and can't find it (no, Fairy Platinum doesn't do the job). Looked like you can get stuff for a dishwasher but, in this home, I am the dishwasher and am fed up with cloudy-looking glasses!

Someone please tell me it exists, and I've just not found it yet!

flamingofridays · 24/01/2019 12:03

a cure for common colds / sickness bugs. I feel like in this day and age we should not be bed bound for 3 days with norovirus!

(I appreciate that its probably a waste of resources considering it probably doesn't kill / endanger that many lives but Christ wouldn't it be good if it just wasn't a thing any more!)

GreenEggsHamandChips · 24/01/2019 12:03

I decent wheelchair. One that isnt horrendously heavy Sad

TopBitchoftheWitches · 24/01/2019 12:07

A solution that actually kills all headlice and their eggs instantly.

The cynic in me believes they have done this already but they make too much money out of parents trying to get rid of the little fuckers. Hmm

Kazzyhoward · 24/01/2019 12:09

Traffic lights that can read sensors/transmitters in the vehicle so that they can be "smart" and change according to traffic volumes. How many times do you drive up to them only for them to change to red to allow a single car to go through or no car at all when they could have "read" you were approaching and stayed green for a few seconds longer. Traffic queues, congestion, pollution etc could all be reduced if traffic lights were "smarter".

Ragevibration · 24/01/2019 12:12

Kazzyhoward

... They already exist don't they? Several on my way to work operate like this. They don't turn red on the main road unless they can read that someone is waiting at the side road and then they generally change when there isn't any cars in the main road if possible. If not then just on a timer...

A completely waterproof mobile phone with a shatter/crack proof screen.

Something that gets your period over and done with in one go. Pop a pill, ten minutes on the loo, and that's it over until next month.

Water powered cars

LunaLunitaLunera · 24/01/2019 12:20

Nearly there, but lab produced meat.

flamingofridays · 24/01/2019 12:22

also, another form of contraception that is 100% effective, is not intrusive (ie coil) and does not make you bleed erratically (ie implant, injection) (in an ideal world, no bleeding at all please!)

Ifangyow · 24/01/2019 12:29

A mute button for ' poorly ' men.

TruffleShuffles · 24/01/2019 12:29

A toaster that actually fits in slices of bread fully. I shouldn’t have to stand around turning the bread whilst using something that was designed for convenience.

moredoll · 24/01/2019 12:31

Apostrophe key ' on the same page of the keypad as the letters. It substitutes a letter ffs.

Mrsharper88 · 24/01/2019 12:33

A contraceptive pill for men

helzapoppin2 · 24/01/2019 12:34
