What do you think SHOULD have been invented by now?

Yet again, I set the Sky box to record a programme, it says it's done it, but when I go to watch it, all that's been recorded is half an hour of over-run news.

Surely we must by now have the technology for the Sky box to know that the previous programme has gone on longer than it was scheduled for, and to wait until the programme I want has actually started before recording?

Likewise, it shouldn't need to record 5 minutes at the start and end of everything.

Drives me nuts!

Does anyone else have any things that they think "We MUST be able to do that by now!"? I don't so much mean things that we wish had been invented, just things that we think should have been.

Grin @ mute button for poorly men.

BartonHollow · 24/01/2019 13:59

Permanent facial hair removal definitely

BobLemon · 24/01/2019 14:03

A device on your car door that detects the distance to an object it might hit (car/wall) when opened, and it restricts the door opening range so you don’t hit it. Why isn’t this a thing?

CloudPop · 24/01/2019 14:08

Something that can properly sort out 10 years of digital photographs. De-dupe, categories etc.

Happilyacceptingcookies · 24/01/2019 14:08

Totally agree with the CAPS LOCK issue.

How are there not tights that don't ladder?
And the weight/impracticality of holding car seats. So bad for our abs.

Jappydooda · 24/01/2019 14:09

CAPITAL/lower case changer on computers - if you type in CAPS by mistake you can highlight the text and change to lower case, rather than having to delete and re-type

Already exists - highlight the text and then hit shift +F3 together - this changes caps to lower, do it again, back to caps, do it again it capitalises the first letter of each word.

A painless way to give birth

GertrudeWilloughby · 24/01/2019 14:16

@Ifangow

A mute button for ' poorly ' men

A mute button for men would be greatly appreciated. :)

Medication that can be taken via a patch on your arm, instead of having to swallow tablets when you already feel rotten. I believe this is in development, but not available yet.

Harrykanesrightsock · 24/01/2019 14:18

Windows that have invisible solar harnessing intergrained to self power every home.

Self-defrosting car windscreens. Like the way the rear window can clear itself at the press of a button, the front windscreen and mirrors & lights should be able to do the same. Obviously the problem for front windscreens is that you can't have all the wires running across like you do on the back one, but surely something similar to the back would work for lights and mirrors?

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 24/01/2019 14:39

A proper contraption for washing clothes. In this day and age there shouldn't be all that hanging up to dry and putting away nonsense.

Whitney168 · 24/01/2019 14:48

Don't know about heated lights, @HeyThoughIWalk, but Fords have had heated front windscreens for years, and there are certainly cars with heated mirrors too.

Alwaysatyke · 24/01/2019 14:49

@heythoughiwalk they exist - pretty sure Ford patented it. My DH's 10 year old Focus has one Smile

Chocrock · 24/01/2019 14:52

thanks MirriVan I rarely use word but its great that they have invented a solution!
I mainly work on email and can't find a solution to the CAPS LOCK problem - other than remember to switch it off obvs!
Jappydooda I tried shift+F3 as you suggested but it doesn't work for me - it looks for words to find and replace? Any other suggestions gratefully received!

Simonfromharlow · 24/01/2019 14:55

@FurryDogMother I also live in hard water area and I wipe my glasses over with some kitchen roll and white vinegar then rinse and dry them. It cleans them up really well!

A machine that I can post clothes into and it will wash, dry press and fold them and deliver them into neat folded piles at the end of the day - I would pay THOUSANDS for this.

MrsPear · 24/01/2019 15:02

I always think of Star Trek - so a universal translator, holodeck and transporter please

derxa · 24/01/2019 15:04

Technology which solves the Irish border 'problem'

explodingkitten · 24/01/2019 15:06

Proper painkillers and medication in pregnancy. Everyone in this world is a result of a pregnancy, how come "take a paracetamol" is the only option? It doesn't work well as a pain killer.

Timetobookaholiday · 24/01/2019 15:13

A cure to cold sores.

Omzlas · 24/01/2019 15:17

A way to end periods without surgery, implants or pills. Take my uterus - you're welcome to it!

And a device which will wash, dry, iron and put away clothes. It would save HOURS and I'd genuinely pay good money for one.

Omzlas · 24/01/2019 15:22

Oh yeah, and a car that will run on extracted body fat.
So I can suck some fat out and wang it in my car.
I could run a car for MONTHS on my arse
