Radio breakfast show?

theluckiest · 21/01/2019 21:29

As in who do you listen to on the radio between 7am-9am?

I tried to like Zoe Ball, I really did. I realised this morning on the way to work that I was in a bad mood made worse by the inanity, horrible music choices and Zoe's odd in-takes of breath (honestly, once you notice it you can never unnotice it)

Any recommendations for a good morning radio show I can tune into?

I usually listen to Greg James on Radio 1, I am way too old for it really and I don't recognise half the music but he's got a good sense of humour.

Sometimes I will just put a local radio station on like Heart or Free Radio but then there's the ads. Sad

Ribbonsonabox · 21/01/2019 21:37

Oh God I agree about the Zoe ball breakfast show music! I tried to listen the other day because Tom Hiddleston and Saoirse Ronan were on and I quite like them both.. but I had to turn it off before it even got to the interviews because the music was so annoying. It's like they went out of thier way to pick the most annoying songs possible!

Has Chris Evans started his new show yet? I need to have him back in my life

I only listen to 6 Music now.

Nnnnnineteen · 21/01/2019 21:57

Can't listen to Zoe. I like her, but she is whispery and I hate all the phone in shite and shout outs to "Anne's wonderful hubby" type shit. I listen to Chris moyles on radio x mostly, punctuated by a bit of Ronan and Harriet (magic), or Jamie and Lucy(heart).

Katisha · 21/01/2019 21:59

Radio 3! Eclectic mix of music

RiaParkinson71 · 21/01/2019 22:05

Yes,Chris Evans started on Virgin this morning. It was good to have him back on at breakfast! Show format largely unchanged so same features at same time.

theluckiest · 21/01/2019 22:09

Oh god, yes the 'shout-outs'....just sod off. It's early morning, I'm grumpy and this isn't helping...

And calling anyone female 'gorgeous girl' - fake wanky nonsense.

I tried R4 this morning but my brain just isn't switched on enough to concentrate and I occasionally venture over to Absolute 90s or Rock but the adverts also piss me off (PlusNet...I'm glowering at you)

So basically, I'm a miserable cow in the morning and need something fun, not too taxing with decent tunes.

Oooh, hadn't thought of Radio 6. I've heard good things. Might give it a whirl...

Absolute radio which I can also alternate onto absolute 80’s or 90’s as well as the main station. Love it!

Jsmith99 · 21/01/2019 22:10

I usually listen to Today on R4, and sometimes Rachel Burden & Nicky Campbell on 5 live.

I’m not a morning person at all, so I can’t deal with chirpy ‘banter’ or blaring pop music before midday.

Largepiecesofcrookedwood · 21/01/2019 22:12

I'm in the Radio4 camp now
I want to like a jolly, musicy type of breakfast show but I just can't - and I would consider myself quite bright and cheery in the morning Hmm

OrdinaryGirl · 21/01/2019 22:35

@Nnnnnineteen I am still giggling at 'Shout outs to Anne's wonderful hubby' - it is exactly like this! 😄 Kind of like reality TV for your ears.

Know I would love ZB in person. But oh my goodness the show has me slapping the car stereo to turn it off.

Wasn't massively keen on Chris Evans for the same reasons, but new heights of twee have been scaled this week.

I really miss Terry Wogan and his very gentle, understated humour and whimsy.

thereallifesaffy · 21/01/2019 22:37

I met ZB in a lift once at work. I was heavily pregnant and she was sooooo tall and willowy. I tried to disappear into the corner of the lift.
I can't listen to her tho.

MorningsEleven · 21/01/2019 22:41

Of a morning Sir Terry was perfect cos he gently woke the nation. I don't need breathy shouting and huge egos before 7pm. Actually I don't need them at all but I can cope with them after a glass of wine. I'd have Ken Bruce from sunrise till drivetime then get Simon Mayo back.

Lividatnext · 21/01/2019 22:43

I listen to Chris Moyles on Radio X. Makes me guffaw several times a morning.

doggydoodoo1 · 21/01/2019 22:46

Kiss FM. I'm 45 and really like the music but not the DJ's.

DocusDiplo · 21/01/2019 22:50

Glad I am not alone in struggling to find a radio show for the AM. I miss Chris Evans & co :(

I do not have anything against Zoe Ball but the show has a weird fake tinge to it, and a bit.... old fashioned somehow.

I love R4 but current affairs puts me in a bad mood -I do not want to hear politicians lying at 7am!!

Might try Virgin.

doritad · 21/01/2019 22:53

Moyles in the car or r1 at home

wowfudge · 21/01/2019 22:55

I've not taken to Zoe Ball either. I was thinking about it this morning - I like her on TV but I don't think she's really found her radio voice - she doesn't seem natural. I decided to listen to Chris Evans this morning. Unfortunately, the signal for the digital channel Virgin is on must be rubbish in our area. I didn't get very far on my commute before it cut out. The BBC stations are the only ones that don't.

Meandyouandyouandme · 21/01/2019 22:55

Definitely 6 music now Lauren Laverne is doing it, great music and interesting chat.

thereallifesaffy · 21/01/2019 23:06

Mind you ZB is a broadcast genius compared with Steve Wright

MorningsEleven · 21/01/2019 23:07

My dog's a broadcast genius compared with Steve Wright.

Paddingtonthebear · 21/01/2019 23:12

Trying to get used to Lauren Laverne’s new breakfast show on 6 music but miss Sean Keaveny’s show after listening for 8 years

Petalflowers · 21/01/2019 23:12

I listen to breakfast shows on different radios.

Home : Radio 1 - officially i’m tooold for radio 1, but this is a really good show.

Car - kmfm- dc love it, quite enjoy it also
Car - Radio 2 if dc aren’t in car

BackforGood · 21/01/2019 23:12

I like Heart FM for the Breakfast show, but realise
a) some parts of the country can't get it
and
b) there are different presenters in different parts of the country
so this might not help, unless you are in the West Midlands Grin

Rest of the day though, I've got fed up with the constant promoting of their constant fundraising 'competitions'.

I am a recent convert to 'Greatest Hits' radio though for the rest of the day and night. It took over from 'Absolute' (105.2 I think it is) and always has great music on and the DJs aren't annoying.
