Radio breakfast show?

theluckiest · 21/01/2019 21:29

As in who do you listen to on the radio between 7am-9am?

I tried to like Zoe Ball, I really did. I realised this morning on the way to work that I was in a bad mood made worse by the inanity, horrible music choices and Zoe's odd in-takes of breath (honestly, once you notice it you can never unnotice it)

Any recommendations for a good morning radio show I can tune into?

Sara Cox is upsetting me on my drive home, too much music, and I dont understand the game they play.

HoraceCope · 22/01/2019 07:22

yup, dont like change, agree

bert3400 · 22/01/2019 07:22

Another vote off to ZB. Really like Greg James in R1 and my kids are happy with my R1 choice. We have a running joke that DH is an old man with his radio choice ...he's into Smooth radio & Magic ...I'm 51 & DH is 40 ...I'm much cooler than him Grin

I like Zoe ball more than I thought I would, but not sure I'll stick with her.

I tried Chris Evans on virgin yesterday because I really liked his show on radio 2, but for some reason it really annoyed me that they have just moved the exact same show over. Same features, same "how do you like your eggs" song and everything. I expected them to shake things up a bit when they moved.

HoraceCope · 22/01/2019 07:32

Its the same on Virgin because They Know we dont like change

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2019 08:02

Controversial I know but I was gutted when Chris Moyles left the R1 breakfast show all those years ago.
I loved Comedy Dave and Dominic. ☹️

Northernlass69 · 22/01/2019 08:13

I'm old but love Greg James. He's really bright and intelligent, doesn't try to be all yoof. The rest of them on radio one try too hard to sound like they can't be arsed.

I've tried Zoe but it's all a bit reminiscent of Steve Wright. I think it's all the team with her. It's really bland. I like to think she'll find her own path in time. How do I get Virgin in my car?

Northernlass69 · 22/01/2019 08:16

And anyone know what happened with Chris Moyles and Comedy Dave? I googled and it said Chris went on holiday with Dave's ex wife???

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2019 08:16

That's how I feel Northern. He doesn't take himself seriously at all. He seems like a really nice person, I would be so proud if I was his Mum. Smile

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2019 08:17

I don't think Chris and Comedy Dave speak any more. Something to do with Comedy Dave's wife years ago!

KittyMcKitty · 22/01/2019 08:20

I’m another who’s left R2 for 6 Music permanently.

Lauren Laverne followed by Mary Ann Hobbs are just fantastic - if they’d only kept Radcliffe and Maconie on in the afternoon it would be perfect.

notacooldad · 22/01/2019 08:28

Planet Rock is usually on all day in our house and for going to work.
I like listening to Paul Anthony up to 09.00am and then wyatt until 2.00pm.
If o want a change I might flip over to Double J.

EvaHarknessRose · 22/01/2019 08:28

I’m much happier with Zoe

Bluelonerose · 22/01/2019 08:29

Local radio station every morning. Love it the presenters are hilarious and the songs are ace.

notacooldad · 22/01/2019 08:31

How do I get Virgin in my car?
Use your phone and an Aux lead if you don't have DAB Northern

LadyGAgain · 22/01/2019 08:34

I'm absolutely loving Zoe in the morning! Fully appreciate others do not but I'd hate her to be reading this thread thinking we all think the same way. And it's my sort of music!

wineandcatsandlego · 22/01/2019 08:42

Following as I'm currently also lost for a breakfast show! I used to love Christian O'Connell on Absolute 80s as I was getting ready at home, then onto Chris Evans for the drive to work, but Christian left for Aus and I couldn't get on with Dave Berry, and now Evans has gone! Agree with PP about Sara Cox being much more enjoyable at breakfast, fingers crossed Zoe finds her feet as I used to like her Saturday show. Can't wait for Simon Mayo to start Grin (also think I'm the only person in the world who enjoys Steve Wright Blush)

surferjet · 22/01/2019 08:44

I’m loving Zoe.
Yes she’s a bit ‘try too hard’ & doesn’t sound as natural as Ken Bruce or Steve Wright ( who I actually love Grin ) but she’s better than Chris Evans!

slippermaiden · 22/01/2019 08:47

Greg James in the mornings. When he goes off air I listen to Absolute or music on my phone.

TwitterQueen1 · 22/01/2019 08:57

Can I bring Sarah Cox's drivetime show into the mix here? She's too like ZB and again, there's too much shouting out about x's wonderful hubby for being a great dad...... BORING. And we've also had the critical question about eating children's leftovers.... really? inane rubbish. Simon Mayo, you are missed.

Kattatty87 · 22/01/2019 09:07

Another vote for Chris moyles on radio x.
Hes still as funny as ever but has lost the ego and arrogance so is listenable to now days.

@northenlass69 Dominic is on the new show as well.

Chris famously fell out with comedy dave years ago .

ShatnersWig · 22/01/2019 09:13

Rachel Burden & Nicky Campbell on 5 live for me too.

Still miss the Togmeister.

Yellowbutterfly1 · 22/01/2019 09:32

I've moved to Virgin from R2 to listen to Chris Evans. Much prefer him to Zoe Ball.
Just seem to have trouble with the DAB in the car with Virgin as it often cuts out. Be interesting to know what the listening figures are on R2 breakfast show now that Chris Evans show has started.

TwitterQueen1 · 22/01/2019 09:57

Yes ShatnersWig Terry was just incomparable and irreplaceable

Northernlass69 · 22/01/2019 10:26

Kattatty87 yes but why did they fall out? Why was Chris on holiday with Dave's ex wife??
