Most random find in a new house?

ContraryToPopularBelief · 17/01/2019 22:37

So we picked up our keys for our new house today. The sellers have been so nice. The house is super clean and they've left thoughtful things like a hedge clipper and lawnmower. All good.

However... on the back of one of the bedroom doors there is a sheep's skull!!!! 😱

Utterly random! So what's the most random thing your found when you moved in to a new house?

I did forget to pick up the old loo brush and sling it in the bin when we left though. Sorry new owners.

In my defence it was really, really hot.

PickAChew · 17/01/2019 23:11

Earrings and tampon wrappers all over the place. Even found earrings in the dishwasher trap, when I cleaned out what appeared to be a disintegrated fat ball.

crimsonlake · 17/01/2019 23:12

Viagra hidden on top of the kitchen cupboards.

BrokenWing · 17/01/2019 23:13

If you ever find VHS videos behind the kickboards of your kitchen units 18 months after moving in, DON'T play them!!

anitagreen · 17/01/2019 23:14

Graffiti of "TRUDY IS A SLAG" in the cupboard Grin

Atalune · 17/01/2019 23:17

A full shed of tools and crap. So 50/50 good and bad.

A kitchen cupboard full of baking trays. Good!

We packed it all up and the seller didn’t get back in touch.

6m later she did. Jog on love!

AuntieOxident · 17/01/2019 23:17

Fleas.

MiniMum97 · 17/01/2019 23:18

Filth, utter filth. Two weeks of scrubbing and we only got the worst of it. They had also taken the radiator covers, the bathroom cabinets and the coat hooks in the hall!

Plaiceholder · 17/01/2019 23:19

One of the those Victorian dolls with the ceramic heads. Left at the back of the airing cupboard. Scared the shite out of me.

A massive gas bbq.

A wishing well.

Huge flat screen tv.

OhTheRoses · 17/01/2019 23:21

Inside the airing cupboard door they used to measure their three dc. Two got taller and taller. One stopped, aged about 8. It was a very sad realisation. They were lovely people.

madcatladyforever · 17/01/2019 23:21

Well it's what I didn't find that scared the hell out of me.
When I went to view the house initially the bedroom was all dark green woodchip with a home artexed interesting ceiling, but not as interesting as his wife's collection of creepy victorian dolls on pine shelving around the entire bedroom.
There were hundreds of them.
When I moved in I was too scared to go into the cellar or the loft in case one of those damned things was hiding in there.

ladyratterley · 17/01/2019 23:22

An absolutely filthy bathroom which I initially thought was past saving. It came up a treat after a few dousings in cillit bang! And a pair of manky pants left in the washing machine.
The previous owner was a single guy who’d lived there alone for 10 years and you could tell! Grin

Yulebealrite · 17/01/2019 23:22

A huge old suitcase in the cellar which was locked and so heavy it was hard to move. It was opened with great trepidation and a fast beating heart as I was half expecting a dead body.
It was full of books..

There were more books in the attic which had a hatch with access to all the other houses in the terrace row. I had a lock fitted pronto.

somewhereovertherain · 17/01/2019 23:23

An obe.

And half the lounge floor missing. - was covered by a rug when we looked round.

Choccywoccyhooha · 17/01/2019 23:23

A very old top hat in a posh hat box.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 17/01/2019 23:26

Huge Gurkha Kukri behind some pipes in an old cloakroom. Wasn’t even a ‘new’ house, we’d been there years, gawd knows how long it had been there.

dinosaurdick · 17/01/2019 23:27

We found these gems down the back of the radiators when we moved in along with some very old photographic developing chemicals from the army!

WFTisgoingoninmyhead · 17/01/2019 23:27

Naked photos of the prevoius owner!!

BagofTeeth · 17/01/2019 23:28

Rabbit skull in a jar and a huge box of porn magazines and page 3 clippings.

RangerLady · 17/01/2019 23:30

A pair.of.knickers down the back of the fitted wardrobe in our first flat. We're moving to a rather old and uncared for cottage next week, I'll report back!

chocolatebrazilnut · 17/01/2019 23:31

Some large, laminated diagrams of forceps and ventouse deliveries (previous owner was an NCT antenatal tutor)!

Starlight456 · 17/01/2019 23:31

A well used porn mag behind the toilet tank

silentcrow · 17/01/2019 23:32

Ditto! Pornographic polaroids of the previous tenants, under the bed. Embarrassingly enough my dad found them as we moved in and thought they were hilarious. We were only 23 or so and mortified.

Rather sweetly I found some vintage sewing patterns when we moved into this house, which went straight into my collection. Also a humungous TV aerial in the loft which looks far too big to have got through the hatch!

DustyMaiden · 17/01/2019 23:34

A dog in the bathroom. The vendor called for it two days later. He said it was easier to move without it, I’m sure it was.

cheesenpickles · 17/01/2019 23:37

Collection of teapots in the shape of cottages in the garage.

Also next to it was a big tub of something like slug pellets thing that simply stated on its lid "IF YOU EAT THIS YOU WILL DIE. DO NOT EAT THIS DAVID!"
