So it’s looking like on Sunday we will get 2ft of snow dumped on us, daytime temp of -8c dropping to -17 at night, that’s not taking into account the windchill.

Today we stocked up on food and now have 20L of petrol in cans for the generator.

I am actually looking forward to it. My inner Prepper is happy and shouting Yey this is what we have been training for!!

Sounds fab! I like having a real excuse to hibernate Grin rarely happens where I am in the UK though.

GreyGardens88 · 17/01/2019 21:21

Sounds magnificent

whatsthestory123 · 17/01/2019 21:32

oh hope everybody is prepared for it

we would never cope over here Smile

Backwoodsgirl · 17/01/2019 21:32

I enjoy a good storm, DH is getting ready to shovel us out.....the chainsaw is being sharpened as I type this

whatsthestory123

I don’t know, we don’t have that many homeless in my state. Probably because it’s too cold for people and they head to warmer states.

I loved our Beast from the East last year (heavy snow that you couldn't make a snow ball from because it was so dry Hmm)
Its lovely being holed up and prepared.

WhyTheLongFace · 17/01/2019 21:37

How do you get to work?

Backwoodsgirl · 17/01/2019 21:51

WhyTheLongFace

The towns have snow plows and other equipment so roads are usually clear within 24 hrs. Then it’s business as normal.

During the storm we will clear our driveway 2-3 times as it’s easier doing that rather than clearing the lot in one go. Lucky it’s only a 3 long drive

WhyTheLongFace · 17/01/2019 21:57

How marvellously efficient.

chordFire · 17/01/2019 22:03

Will you take pictures and show us? I'm feeling vicariously excited!

EnidButton · 17/01/2019 22:05

I was going to ask if you had a chest freezer for food stocking but realised it would probably be colder outside.

What area are you in?

SeaToSki · 17/01/2019 22:10

We are driving north for the weekend, should be snug in our house by the time it hits. Cant wait. And Monday is a bank holiday here, so there is no rush to dig out and get to work/school the next morning.

Troels · 17/01/2019 22:11

I used to prep like this when we lived in the hills in California. Never got to actually get cut of though in 20 years the school only had one snow day for an inch of snow, sissys
Get the wood for the stove stacked in the garage, plan my knitting and book reading by lamp light, and make sure there plenty of biscuits to go with the cups of tea, water boiled in a steel kettle on top of the woodstove. Bliss. Dh just used to buy in tins of pork and beans Blergh!
Have fun Backwoodsgirl.

HerRoyalNotness · 17/01/2019 22:16

I wish this was us!

More importantly, how many bottles of wine will you need?

In the US with a Blizzard on the way.
Backwoodsgirl · 17/01/2019 22:33

Sure I can take pictures! We are in New Hampshire.

We have beer and wine stocked, Grin

Firewood is stocked, DH is going to get another tree down ready just in case.

Sounds great. I get photos from friends in Canada that make me jealous, they ski right from their house.

EnidButton · 17/01/2019 22:36

Do you have hot chocolate and cookies?

Starlight90 · 17/01/2019 22:43

Well prepared! The US always prepare. I love that! Please keep us updated with pics!!

OlennasWimple · 17/01/2019 22:45

We used to love snow days when we lived in the US - random "it's too snowy to go to school so everyone has the day off to make snowmen and drink hot chocolate" days Smile

Hope everyone stays safe

chordFire · 17/01/2019 22:49

Thank youSmile

Backwoodsgirl · 18/01/2019 00:20

Ah! No we don’t have hot choc!!

OP posts:
OlennasWimple · 18/01/2019 00:23

Make sure you get some Swiss Miss in the morning Backwoodsgirl!!

SeaToSki · 18/01/2019 00:29

I have marshmallows, must remember to pack them. DD will want squirty cream (pre whipped in a can) and chocolate sprinkles. DH will just want lots and lots of wood. He is a closet pyromaniac and loves a roaring fire. I am stocking up on drambuie and good books. DS will have his own stash of books and an enormous fuzzy blanket, maybe a fuzzy friend or too. Mary Berry frikadellers (sp?) for dinner and maybe a snowshoeing adventure when the snow slows to the pretty stage. I'll post some photos if I can.

theoldtrout01876 · 18/01/2019 01:27

Backwoodsgirl Im in Massachusetts, right on the NewHampshire border Grin. Im hoping the worst misses me.
I am prepared though snow blower is filled and checked. I do my food shopping on a Saturday morning so will do it then and include ingredients for proper blizzard comfort food.
I dont have a generator but have a wood stove and a gas camping stove and lights so if the power goes all will be well in the trout household.
I fckin hate snow btw but at least this one wont involve driving to work for me
