So it’s looking like on Sunday we will get 2ft of snow dumped on us, daytime temp of -8c dropping to -17 at night, that’s not taking into account the windchill.

Today we stocked up on food and now have 20L of petrol in cans for the generator.

I am actually looking forward to it. My inner Prepper is happy and shouting Yey this is what we have been training for!!

I'm just up the road from you in Québec! Predicted to be heavy this weekend here too.

Fire, wine, movie, sorted.

Taytotots · 18/01/2019 02:19

Waving at OP, old trout and halfwit. We're over the border in NB. Not sure if we'll get snow or freezing rain at the moment but prepared in any case.

WickedGoodDoge · 18/01/2019 11:41

Yes, you must take pictures! I’m a Massachusetts native and oh how I miss a good blizzard (not the blizzard of ‘78 though, which had the bad fortune of falling over the Feb school holidays so no snow days and left us with no power for a week)! Grin

Stupomax · 18/01/2019 14:51

Hmm good reminder, we should get gas for the generator.

And booze.

Stupomax · 18/01/2019 16:11

do homeless shelters especially open for this? cant imagine being out in it

They have enough space for everyone during the winter. The staff also go around the streets trying to talk homeless people into coming to the shelter. It's more because of the cold than the snow.

But my state has also worked hard over the last few years to reduce homelessness, especially since they realised that it costs less to pay for rent and look after homeless people than it does to let them remain homeless. It's all about the money.

whatsthestory123 · 19/01/2019 00:21

Glad to see the homeless are catered for

yep always boils down to money

how is it going??

Backwoodsgirl · 19/01/2019 00:30

So far it’s been a still cold grey day. We are due to get hit from about 4pm tomorrow. We are all prepared for any eventuality!

We are on the Maine border, I fully expect the power to go out. It always does for us!

Good luck!

Dropped by to say good luck!

I'm in Missouri and we got 16 inches of snow in the storm last weekend. Only once the local roads were impassable did DH realise that he forgot to buy a snow shovel (or any shovel for that matter) so we had to dig ourselves out with a dustpan.

The ploughs cleared the roads quickly, but we still have about 6 inches left over grass with 4-8 inches forecasted for tomorrow. We just got back from Lowes where we weren't the only people panic buying shovels...

DulciUke · 19/01/2019 00:42

Expecting the same snow here in upstate New York. Settled in for the weekend. Plan to get lots of cooking done in between Netflix binges. Kind of nice to be nestled inside with no need to jump in the car. Unfortunately, will have to work on MLK day, but hopefully streets may be ok.

Backwoodsgirl · 19/01/2019 00:42

SpaceCadet4000

We have shovels, and a snowblower soon to be on standby.....DH needs to clean the carburetor out

freezinguplands · 19/01/2019 00:45

In Illinois, looking out my electric snow shovel. My section of pavement will be cleared !

SpaceCadet4000 · 19/01/2019 00:47

Backwoodsgirl sounds like you guys are really well prepared. If/when the power does go, I hope you enjoy enjoying the fruits of your prep!!

whatsthestory123 · 19/01/2019 00:50

oh glad your all ok and embracing the weather

keep warm

GiantKitten · 19/01/2019 00:55

DD1 is in NYC. They’re only forecast a small amount of snow, on Sunday afternoon, but after that it will be bitterly cold for a couple of days - Monday's high looks like -13 & then it will slowly warm up to -5 on Tuesday afternoon.

Sounds as if they’re getting off lightly Grin

BradleyPooper · 19/01/2019 01:02

Take care OP. We're in Texas so no snow for us .... but spent the new year in the hills above Santa Fe New Mexico, loved being in snow for a week, but relieved that we could get out and to the airport!

Stupomax · 19/01/2019 01:18

There are some ridiculous predictions out there. I'm in the 2 feet + band on this pic.

It feels like Nemo again, but I'm sure it won't be that bad. I think they closed the Mass Pike during that one, and everyone trying to get onto I95 in Maine had to stop at the tollbooth and get a lecture from the tollbooth operators about how they were heading to certain death, before they were allowed on the turnpike.

I might go and get some milk and bread though, and check the snowblower and generator actually start.

I'm at the point where -13 just seems normal. We took the dog for a walk across a lake yesterday and despite wearing my warmest ski gloves, my fingers were painfully cold. It's grim.

GiantKitten · 19/01/2019 01:36

Stupomax that does sound grim 🥶

DH & I had a winter in Minnesota once. It was a mild one for there, with not a huge amount of snow (previous year had had 6’ drifts for ages). It stayed below freezing for 3-4 months but was mostly not too bad.

You do appreciate spring after a hard winter Flowers

BoreOfWhabylon · 19/01/2019 02:03

Good luck!

AlbertWinestein · 19/01/2019 02:22

We had a two hour delay today as a warm up for the big event. DH tried the snowplough and it’s not working. Not that I care as I’ve headed south with one of my kids for a tournament and we’re only getting a couple of inches here 😄 It’s been a slow snow winter so far, but it was last year too and then we had 3 killers in March. That’s way too late for my liking!

LackOfAdhesiveDucks · 19/01/2019 02:22

I wish we were supposed to get more snow (I’m NE of Toronto ). On Sunday it’s a high of -17C (but a wind chill of -26C) but over night it’s actually -26C feeling like -40C! Feeling like -40C! That’s just awful. We don’t have much snow at all and it’s just icy and frozen. I want a better winter. Enjoy the snow for me!

VetOnCall · 19/01/2019 03:21

Good luck OP, I hope your power stays on. Sounds like you're well prepared for any eventuality.

We're in Alberta, Canada and it's currently -17. The 'warmest' it's been today is -14 although it was a beautiful blue-sky day so felt fairly pleasant. We have a bit of snow but not much, up until the last few days it's been unusually mild here - we're in a city though so unlikely to ever get properly snowed in. The air is very dry here so despite the low temperatures it generally feels more pleasant than the bone-chilling damp cold in the UK! We're not far from the mountains so we're planning to do some snowshoeing tomorrow - hope you manage to get out once it's all settled too!

Backwoodsgirl · 19/01/2019 12:18

Stupomax

I have been hearing people say it’s like Nemo again.....
