Is the Duchess of Sussex expecting twins?

SophiaLovesSummer · 14/01/2019 23:59

I've just seen pics of her at an engagement today and that is a seriously massive bump! But not due until end April/early May (she told people this herself today) which makes her not even 6 months but she literally looks like I did at about 8 months so I'm wondering if the 'twins' story published overseas might actually be accurate?

Ridiculous! Moonbump. As if.

EwItsAHooman · 16/01/2019 21:13

I'm a fan of the duchess but please could someone explain the constant need to hold/stroke the bump

She comes across as quite tactile, all the hand holding and linking arms and stuff. I think it's an extension of that. I liked my bumps and resting my hands and cup of tea on them.

You can also bet that any editor who sees 20 photos of her holding her bump and 400 photos of her not will choose the bump-holding photos! They are not representative of how she is all the time.

Because she wants to/likes it/enjoys it/feels nice/comforting/lifting a bump slightly alleviates pain, at least it does for me

PeachMelba78 · 16/01/2019 21:55

I was massive at 6 months, and needed to cradle my left side due to the way baby was sitting.
I am short and petite, so pregnancy shows a lot on me.
All bumps are different, please can we stop judging other women?

beansontoastfortea · 16/01/2019 21:58

Good point about the 'selective' pap shots... and I guess wherever she goes right now all attention is on the bump so she would naturally hold it

EwItsAHooman · 16/01/2019 22:11

Possibly feeling protective of it too when there are crowds? DH went to a few concerts and shows during my pregnancies and in the bits before/after where everyone is milling around waiting to go inside or get outside I would sometimes put my hands over my bump, obviously the baby is well protected but it made my irrational pregnant self feel a bit less anxious!

Clankboing · 16/01/2019 22:35

I think she might be holding the bump / baby because the surrounding noise is making it move and turn. I remember teaching in a large double class of 60. When it got noisy my baby would do somersaults. I used to hold the baby then.

SemperIdem · 16/01/2019 23:12

I think the bump holding is a protective thing, on a subconscious level, for her.

I don’t really understand why it annoys people (lunatic “moonbump” people aside). She’s an excited first time mum, regardless of her “role”, that is what is she is really. It’s her first, she’s clearly not suffered any health issues and is in love with the idea of her baby.

Encyclo · 16/01/2019 23:38

Why are people scrutinising her bump anyway? That’s peculiar behaviour in and of itself Confused

GunpowderGelatine · 16/01/2019 23:44

I think pregnant women are beautiful I love to see a bump and if she wants to touch her own fucking bump let her crack on.

Grimbles · 17/01/2019 09:39

I hold the bottom of my bump sometimes because I still get round ligament pain and my hands automatically try to sooth the pain.

Sometimes I hold it because my baby is moving and want to feel it.

Lots of women find themselves subconsciously protecting their bumps - I guessed a friend of mine was pregnant at 8 weeks because she was 'shielding' her belly with her bag without realising she was doing it.

BrassHorses · 17/01/2019 10:26

I don't think her bump looks particularly big. Pregnancy can be an anxious time for women and having people comment all the time just makes you question everything. I feel for her with all this attention and speculation about every single nuance of her pregnancy.

SaveKevin · 17/01/2019 10:37

I also think the money shot is her touching her bump. So that’s the photo / footage we will see. Not the hour before where she didn’t touch it

JacquesHammer · 17/01/2019 11:31

Crikey there's some batshit on this thread an no mistake.

I was bigger than her at the same point in my single pregnancy.

I worked up to 39.5 weeks.
I had no weight gain elsewhere.
I came home in pre-pregnancy skinny jeans.
Unless my "moonbump" took 47 hours to remove, I'm pretty convinced I went through labour.

As for the bump touching; maybe she likes it, maybe it's unconscious, maybe it's media manipulation. Maybe there's no other bloody place to put her hands. It's weird having a massive bump in front of you, especially if you're a person who clasps their hands in front at times.

TaMereAPoilDevantPrisu · 17/01/2019 12:05

I expect that if moonbumps were A Thing the manufacturers would be able to make a version that didn't slip down and look fake Hmm

With pregnancy one I was out dancing all night in heels ten days before full term. In both I looked about six months pregnant at full term.

user1457017537 · 17/01/2019 12:56

Except moonbumps are “A Thing”

TaMereAPoilDevantPrisu · 17/01/2019 12:59

Yes, I meant A Thing for high-profile women in the public eye who know they are going to be photographed from every angle several hundred times a day.

mightyoak100 · 17/01/2019 14:21

But in that hashtag image on twitter it clearly showed that something had slipped. One minute the bump was up high, the next she was completely flat at the top and the lump was very low down. How can it be explained.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 17/01/2019 14:36

I find it jaw dropping that she went to a country with the zika virus, when pregnant.

I wouldn't risk my unborn child.

I aasumed the Royals wouldn't risk any unborn children too.

ovos · 17/01/2019 14:54

It's likely because she is less ignorant than the general public on things like this, thanks to advice from top experts.

I read that there has been one reported case of Zika in the last 2 years. (none in 2018). Probably a higher risk of her car crashing on the way to the airport but nobody's jaw is dropping that she would keep getting in cars despite not needing to.

Lighting, angle, flow of the fabric on her dress, and a few dozen sad and paranoid little minds.

Foreign & Commonwealth office advice -
Zika virus in Fiji

This country is considered to have amoderate risk of Zika virus transmission. Pregnant women should consider postponing non-essential traveluntil after the pregnancy.

Details of specific affected areas within this country are not available

ovos · 17/01/2019 15:25

HowlsMovingBungalow

Yes, I guess for the general public it's easy to give blanket recommendations not to go anywhere with even the tiniest risk. The royal family, however, can more easily afford to bring in top experts to give individual advice.

"The WHO said the most recent case of the mosquito-borne virus in Fiji was in 2017 and there had been no recorded cases in Tonga since 2016". The risk is tiny. Much smaller than many other risks she (and every pregnant woman) takes every day.

TickTockClocks · 17/01/2019 15:43

They are actually ‘a thing’ though.
