Who would you vote for in a General Election?

If there was a GE tomorrow, which political party would you vote for?

Personally I would vote Labour as I want to see an end to austerity, more money invested in public services and less inequality.

Labour

PurpleCrowbar · 14/01/2019 02:13

Another ballot spoiling Adult Human Female (postal) vote here.

I guess if the seat were marginal I might hold my nose & go with 'anything but the Tories', but it's safe LD & has been for years.

I've been a Labour voter & party member all my adult life Sad.

AmIthatbloodycold · 14/01/2019 02:37

Last election there were only 16 votes between the fucking awful SNP who was the sitting MP and the conservatives. I voted labour but next time would vote Tory mainly to get rid of the current twat

But if every intelligent person spoils their ballot, then only the bigots, racists and the selfish rich (etc) will have votes that count.

We all have to vote for the least worst option Sad

Namechangedforthis79 · 14/01/2019 07:37

Who is the least worst option?

Parky04 · 14/01/2019 07:42

Conservatives. Labour is not an option whilst they plan to nationalise the railways. If there is a second referendum on the EU i would never vote on anything again.

Holidayshopping · 14/01/2019 07:51

I have never seen any stats on spoiled ballots-I always thought it was just a wasted vote.

scrappydappydoo · 14/01/2019 07:56

I don’t know. I’m in a Tory safe seat and actually our MP is great on local issues but once he goes to Westminster he’s just as bad as the rest of them and I will not that bunch of incompetents any more power. Labour well like so many on the thread just no to Corbyn - we do not need a weak indecisive PM. Lib Dem’s - possibly because of their Brexit stance but not on the basis of their inability to understand Biology. Greens are a no again because of Biology and l don’t trust them. So.... Confused

strangerthongs · 14/01/2019 07:57

Conservative.

Used to be Labour, but not under Corbyn.

Never SNP

Boom76 · 14/01/2019 07:57

I’d never vote labour with Corbyn in charge. I have no wish to end up living in a country like Venezuela. Also, he doesn’t give a shit about the working classes, only himself. He never votes for the good of the country. The Tories could bring world peace and he’d vote against it.

Holidayshopping · 14/01/2019 07:59

The Tories could bring world peace

I wouldn’t put my money on that.

recently · 14/01/2019 08:01

Whichever party looks most likely to get the Tories out in my constituency.

SalrycLuxx · 14/01/2019 08:10

I’d write “adult human female” across the ballot paper.

They’re all appalling.

heartshapedknob · 14/01/2019 08:14

I’ve never voted Tory in my life but if there was an election tomorrow I would. May has (albeit willingly) stepped into a shitshow and is at least trying to deal with it. UC definitely needs some adjustments for disabled people and I have written to my MP about that.

Corbyn isn’t Labours only issue; whilst he’s so insipid he can’t even trounce May at PMQ, I won’t vote for the party because of Momentum and their mob tactics and the promised rise in taxes. We’ve worked bloody hard to get where we are - not rich at all, but we have bought a house (with mortgage, no family help etc, albeit in an area that is a slum according to MN Grin) and just no. We pay enough.

InteriorLulu · 14/01/2019 08:15

Marginal seat here so would have to be Lib Dem. Otherwise I'd vote Labour.

DippyAvocado · 14/01/2019 08:19

But if every intelligent person spoils their ballot, then only the bigots, racists and the selfish rich (etc) will have votes that count.

This.

poshme · 14/01/2019 08:22

At the election counts I've been to, the candidate (or their agent) is asked to read/see each soiled ballot so they can agree they are spoiled and not actually voting for a particulate candidate.

So they are read. They can't touch them- an official turns them over for them to be read each in turn.

Some of them are very unpleasant so some candidates ask their agent to read them so they don't have to.

RandomlyChosenName · 14/01/2019 09:09

(Another counter here) The candidates only read papers that are potential votes for them to see if they agree it’s a vote or not.

For example, if you put a cross in the box next to Mr Tory, but wrote “you’re a wanker, but you’re the least worse of the bunch” he would read it, and probably accept it as a vote for him. If you just wrote Mr Tory is a wanker on your paper and didn’t put any crosses in any boxes, it would just go straight into the spoiled ballot paper, no vote basket and no one would ever look at it. Apart from those counting it, who might quietly snigger.

Holidayshopping · 14/01/2019 09:10

But if every intelligent person spoils their ballot, then only the bigots, racists and the selfish rich (etc) will have votes that count.

Absolutely.

CluedoAddict · 14/01/2019 09:14

Labour without a doubt. How anyone could consider voting Tory is beyond me. They have ruined our country.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 14/01/2019 09:16

Spoilt paper. Was a lifelong Labour voter but will never do so with Corbyn in charge. Nor will any of my family.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 14/01/2019 09:16

I'm in Theresa Mays constituency so it doesn't really matter which way I vote.
Probably Raving Loony or Lord Buckethead, depending on his opinion on women's rights.

Huffleypuff · 14/01/2019 09:39

*I’d write “adult human female” across the ballot paper.

People need to realise this is a huge waste of time and a waste of a vote.

You go into auto mode when vote counting, if there’s no X then it’s discarded. They won’t care about what you’ve written, the winners and losers won’t care about your spoilt ballot.

I swear this is how Brexit got through, only the extremists bothered to get their opinion across.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 14/01/2019 10:50

Labour probably though I dislike Corbyn. Possibly SNP.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 14/01/2019 10:53

Huffley is right. A ballot paper isn't the way to get your Adult Human Female message across. Write to your MP, campaign, petition. Be politically active, don't throw your vote away.
