Who would you vote for in a General Election?

If there was a GE tomorrow, which political party would you vote for?

Personally I would vote Labour as I want to see an end to austerity, more money invested in public services and less inequality.

Nobody. Women are politically homeless. WEP cannot even state what a woman is.

I would spoil my ballot paper.

Holidayshopping · 13/01/2019 23:59

I’ve worked in elections for 23 years (including election nights) so I can tell you no candidate or anyone else reads or gives 2 hours about spoiled papers. You’d just be wasting your time.

What does that mean? 2 hours?

hmmwhatatodo · 14/01/2019 00:02

2 hoots i think.

How isn’t voting anonymous?

lib dem, as the only anti brexit party

HarrassedMumof3 · 14/01/2019 00:04

Labour. This is the worst government in living memory.

YeahSorryBoutThat · 14/01/2019 00:09

Doesn't matter, a Tory will win in my seat.
Lib Dem or independent, if available.
If not, spoil ballot.
I have never and probably will never vote conservative, and labour at the moment are a joke.
Wish I was in Scotland as I quite like the SNP at the moment!

nicslackey · 14/01/2019 00:14

Labour. the worst Labour government is preferable to to the best Conservative

UrsulaPandress · 14/01/2019 00:16

I thought the number of spoiled votes was always recorded. So a massive amount would send some sort of message. Not that anyone is listening.

PickAChew · 14/01/2019 00:18

I hover around labour, but not this shower.

ThunderR0ad78 · 14/01/2019 00:19

Labour

Jsmith99 · 14/01/2019 00:20

I could never, ever vote Tory under any circumstances other than if doing so was the only way to defeat a fascist candidate, eg BNP.

I am an ex Labour member and activist but as a strong Remainer I will not vote for the party while Corbyn is leader, due to his support for Brexit. His total betrayal of the Labour membership who supported him by instructing MPs to vote for Article 50 is unforgivable.

So that leaves the LibDems or the Greens.

DippyAvocado · 14/01/2019 00:23

There won't be a massive amount of spoiled ballots though, despite what you might read on MN.

FenellasRedVelvetDress · 14/01/2019 00:26

I have been a Tory voter all of my life and a party member for a lot of it too. Helped out at elections delivering leaflets, taking the elderly to polling stations, being at the count, going to meet8mgs, raising money................and I honestly have to say I don’t ever see me voting Tory again in my life. I feel utterly let down by them. They are SO out of touch with the working man , disabled people etc that I have lost faith utterly in them.
However, I can’t vote for Labour as I don’t trust Corbyn - he is too hard line old labour, I don’t like the things I have read re him and terrorists and I cannot BEAR labours view on the never ending Trans debate. So until labour see how the trans community are really behaving towards women then I can’t vote for them.
Lib Dem’s - too effing wish washy and its an utterly wasted vote.

So , either a protest vote for the Yorkshire party or similar or I too, like so many others will spoil my paper in the hope that SOMEONE somewhere will relalise that if we hadn’t spoiled our papers they could have got in - and it might just make the bastards question why we can’t vote for them.

I have never ever not wanted to vote or to not know who I could give my vote to. They are all such self serving, power hungry shits - I can’t see a single MP who I think is there for the privilege of serving his people in the seat of democracy- they are ALL just outbto line their own pockets and to show how big their dick is because they have so much power. I’m ashamed of the lot of them.
And don’t get me started on that odious little creep Berkow!!

PickAChew · 14/01/2019 00:27

My vote isn't "trump or that woman". It's lib/lab/green, which are normally all viable left leaning choices, but all three are found wanting, atm. Largely on the grounds of women's rights.

NameChanger22 · 14/01/2019 00:29

Lib Dems or Greens.

I have never and would never vote for the Conservatives or any right wing party. I have voted for Labour in the past but I never will again now because of Brexit.

notangelinajolie · 14/01/2019 00:32

Conservative. My MP voted Brexit so I'm happy to give him my vote for that reason alone. I don't care much for the Tory party but needs must.

Hen2018 · 14/01/2019 00:34

@UrsulaPandress - yes, spoiled papers are counted. My point was there is no point in writing messages on them because no one (apart from elections staff) will see it. And we won’t have time to read messages or ponder over them.

Hen2018 · 14/01/2019 00:39

@hmmehatatodo I mentioned anonymity because it’s another myth about elections that I see on MM around every election time.

The ballot papers are bagged up (including all the spoilt ones) and kept for however many years.

Each ballot paper has a serial number which tallies with the name of the voter (when you go in the polling station, your name is crossed off the list).

So technically, if there is any worry about fraud (pretty much always impersonation in the U.K.), each ballot paper can be traced to the voter.

Hence they’re not truly anonymous.

UrsulaPandress · 14/01/2019 00:42

Fenella. I'm exactly the same.

SilverySurfer · 14/01/2019 00:44

Conservative, the rest are risible.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 14/01/2019 00:45

Labour, although their stance on Brexit is woeful and as a member all I can hope to do is shape policy as often as were consulted but a vote for anyone else in my mind means more austerity, universal credit and more demonising of the poor and disabled and I’m also not sure I’d survive another 5 years if the Tories got in again

FinnegansWhiskers · 14/01/2019 00:57

I would never vote Labour whilst Corbyn is the captain. If there were a GE would that mean someone else would replace TM? No way would I vote Gove or BJ. Who does everyone think is likely to replace TM?

There's no party to vote for is there?

MsLucyLastic · 14/01/2019 01:32

GiantKitten, I can see your point, but surely spoiling a ballot paper would just give the Conservatives a larger majority? If lots of people did that, then the Tories could interpret that as approval.

Would they not be more worried about their seats and policies if their majority was smaller?

SeaWitchly · 14/01/2019 02:01

Most likely Labour.

I am a Corbyn fan but only wish he/the party would make a stand on two issues of huge importance to me -

1] That AWS are for women only not transwomen. I have no issue with transwomen representation within Labour being promoted and numbers boosted but not at the expense of natal women.

2] That the UK is given another referendum regarding Brexit. Now that we all know the complexities involved it makes sense that the public are given another opportunity to decide whether they stay on the same track re leaving the EU or remaining.

So if Labour AWS were clearly stated for natal women only and Labour also campaigned for another referendum I would say I would definitely vote Labour for sure.

Tories - absolutely no way
Greens - betrayers of women and basic safeguarding with their non-men and Challenor family debacle
Lib Dems - their LBGTQ society twitter output have put paid to any chance of me voting for that bunch of misogynists.
UKIP - normally I would say absolutely not but I believe they might be the most GC of the main parties...
WEP - transwomen are women ad infinitum... no thanks.
