Who would you vote for in a General Election?

If there was a GE tomorrow, which political party would you vote for?

Personally I would vote Labour as I want to see an end to austerity, more money invested in public services and less inequality.

Conservative

Our MP is a fairly useless Tory who won't lose Hmm

Previously I have voted Labour anyway just to boost their total vote but now, between Brexit & the trans-rights nonsense, I'll be spoiling my ballot paper Angry

Why is it shameful? I want to exercise my right to vote but I cannot vote for people for whom I have no respect.

Parliament should be ashamed. Not me.

anniehm · 13/01/2019 21:38

Labour safe seat here, not keen on my mp but wouldn't vote for Tory's

tilder · 13/01/2019 21:38

This is the problem with extreme politics, which is essentially our choice. Those who do not hold such views are left with nothing.

If everyone who rejects such extreme views spoils their ballot paper, the only ones holding a say in the vote will be those who agree with one of the extremes. We will end up with one of those.

Makes me so angry. The campaign was based on lies and misinformation. Now we all have to suffer. All for an ideology.

Shame on them. All those politicians who caused this and the sections of the media who fed it.

Nobody, I'm currently politically homeless.

RedWineIsFabulous · 13/01/2019 21:40

Never ever ever could I ever vote for Corbyn.

The thought of him McDonnall and Abbot at the helm gives me chills.

Conservative would get my vote.

Summerisdone · 13/01/2019 21:41

I'm not sure I could bring myself to vote tbh... I would normally vote Labour but I couldn't bring myself to vote useless fecking Corbyn to run the country. Theresa may be a very poor choice, but I honestly think he would be just as bad, if not worse

DippyAvocado · 13/01/2019 21:42

Lib Dems. Would consider Labour if they had a different leader and totally rethought their Brexit strategy.

None of it would make any difference though as a pig in a blue rosette would win round here. What I would really vote for is a change to the electoral system.

Dogsmellssobadbob · 13/01/2019 21:42

Having been a labour party member all my adult life and never ever voted for anyone else I wouldn’t be able to vote for them right now

And that saddened me beyond believe because we really really need a good labour government in power.

I’d have to spoil my ballot unless there was a really good Indy candidate locally

ShadyLady53 · 13/01/2019 21:43

Exactly @tilder. I have so many American friends who spoiled their ballot papers because they couldn't vote for Trump OR "THAT woman"...they really regret it now and sometimes I want to bang their heads together.

UKIP got the seats they got when they got them due to voter apathy at the time, meaning the extreme right wingers got to call more of the shots than was wise...and look what sorry mess that got us into years down the line.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2019 21:44

I want to revoke Article 50. The closest I can get to that is Lib Dem's.

Helmlover · 13/01/2019 21:45

But increases in food banks, child poverty, homelessness, zero hour contracts, austerity, NHS in crisis and a disastrous Brixit deal doesn’t give you chills? Hmm

We are remarkably fortunate to have a say in who runs our country, spoiling a ballot is like a toddler having a tantrum! The politicians won’t care about the number of ballots spoiled they’ll care about those who actually voted. It would be a disgrace to democracy if only extremists had their voices heard.

RHOF · 13/01/2019 21:46

Labour

Good points. It's not ideal, but I would personally rather look for the least worst option than spoil my ballot. Eg, if there was only UKIP or Conservative on my ballot paper, I would vote Conservative (especially now UKIP are sucking up to Tommy Robinson).

Normandy144 · 13/01/2019 21:50

I'd vote Labour. I want the Tories out. I'm no fan of Corbyn. I don't understand the point in spoiling your ballot, it makes no difference and just increases the chances that the Tories will stay in... You may as well vote Tory. I'm also an adult female, but really not sure what that's all about!?!

Unescorted · 13/01/2019 21:51

I am hoping that a pro remain association of independents springs up in the absence of the LD doing anything significant.

I voted Labour last time to end austerity and I prove infrastructure and education investment. I have seen that that vote is being counted as as a vote supporting Brexit because the shower of shite that is the Labour leader has prevaricated and dithered. I cannot take that risk again. Which is a shame because our MP is fantastic and Pro remain.

exLtEveDallas · 13/01/2019 21:54

As an Adult, Human Female there isn't a single party willing to exclude males from the definition of woman. We have males on all women short lists, we get called CIS, non-men and menstruators. Even the fucking Women's Equality Party expect us to centre men.

I may be 'having a tantrum' but if I don't fucking exist, how the hell can I vote?

ohdearmymistake · 13/01/2019 21:56

I would really struggle to vote for any of them, however tempting it may seem I couldn't spoil my ballot paper as god know who would get in or what would happen if we all did that.

We desperately need someone worthy of voting for and I can't find a single person anywhere that's worthy.

ShowOfHands · 13/01/2019 21:57

I'm a lifelong Labour supporter and party member.

I just don't know. I live in the safest of safe Tory constituencies so it doesn't matter really but I feel quite politically homeless.

GiantKitten · 13/01/2019 22:01

Trouble is that with our FPTP system, a small handful of seats make a massive difference either way. If you don't live in a marginal seat your individual vote is unlikely to affect who wins Sad

Even with the US Presidential election, their electoral college system meant that a tiny number of people in states with very small populations swung it for Trump despite millions of extra votes for Hillary in the largest states.

Most voting systems are unbalanced & crap, unfortunately. UKIP only got their MEP seats because of the regional PR voting system. If we did something similar in the whole of the UK we might get a more representative Parliament.

BloomsButtons · 13/01/2019 22:02

SNP here.

However it makes no difference how Scotland votes really does it?
