Names that wouldn't usually be names

MIL was telling me about a science teacher some decades ago who named her daughter Antimony. I thought this was incredible, and got thinking about other words that could be used as unexpected names.

What do you think could be carried off as a name? In the same elemental theme, I suspect Cobalt has been a boy's name somewhere...

Oh and twins Pamplemousse and Ananas

MidniteScribbler · 18/01/2019 00:14

I always thought Ananya (80s Body Shop fragrance) would make a lovely name!

@ChessieFL I had an Ananya in my class last year.

There is evidently something morally wrong with my character because I really love some of these names.

But not Abcd, I saw an article about her in the paper where her mum was complaining someone was laughing about her name.....

When I was very pregnant and hormonal, I would have called DS Winter or Snow if he’d been a girl. Luckily he wasn’t!

ChampooPapi · 18/01/2019 09:28

@cookie5505 I also went to school with a girl called Moon! Really loved it actually, suited her and just seemed as normal as 'Kate or Julie' after saying it a few times

ChampooPapi · 18/01/2019 09:32

What about broadening our search to include ikea item names?

Lampen anyone Grin

spiderlight · 18/01/2019 09:37

@SawnUpLooRoll I met a girl at a University open day several decades years ago called Antimony (she told me she used Timony for short) and she was lovely. I decided on the spot that we would be best friends for ever and desperately hoped she'd end up on my course, but I never saw her again. I wonder if it was the same one!

Sewrainbow · 18/01/2019 09:44

I went to school with an Amaryllis many many years ago!

Sachet, Ananaya and Lidl's toilet rolls are really nice names!

I always thought Aeriel washing powder added more to the mermaid's name :) Powerful and deeply cleaning...

I like Ocean.

Pipistrelle is a sweet name, not just for bats.
Hadron is interesting.
Cornucopia should be a top 10 name.
Ercol isn’t just for furniture!

My Son came up with Tinniel as a middle name for himself. It sounds like something from Brideshead Revisited to me.

I know of an adult Stormy and a young child called King.

I used to work with a man named Bright and he really suited it. Virtue names are popular in other cultures and I think they’re really nice.

PippilottaLongstocking · 18/01/2019 17:16

littlemiss
I’d use Tempest and Thor, Lord is pretty cool too

toffee1000 · 18/01/2019 17:57

I’ve seen Bambi, Honey and Princess used. Isn’t Princess the name of Katie Price’s daughter?
