Names that wouldn't usually be names

MIL was telling me about a science teacher some decades ago who named her daughter Antimony. I thought this was incredible, and got thinking about other words that could be used as unexpected names.

What do you think could be carried off as a name? In the same elemental theme, I suspect Cobalt has been a boy's name somewhere...

How about Pomander? Could be unisex Grin

AtiaoftheJulii · 15/01/2019 21:15

I've always liked Chrysanthemum. Xanthe for short.

Selenium

As long as they don't grow up to be a horse lover then it's a fine name.

Fidra is a Scottish island and I think it would be a good name for a girl.

UnderMajorDomoMinor · 16/01/2019 22:11

Japonica. Lovely plant name but I can see it on a child too.

amyk91 · 16/01/2019 22:19

I have friends at university called Atomic (girl) and Havana (which is really beautiful and who is half Cuban).
I also met a Birdie today. Not a bad name, but not something I would personally choose.

WaterBird · 16/01/2019 22:39

Calico is lovely!

I rather like Jolly for a girl, in the Holly/Polly/Molly vein.

Or Cellar Door, as inspired by Donnie Darko.
