I’m talking the ridiculous ones, so not meaning to offend anyone. If you remember the story how you heard it please include that too!

Mine Grin
When I was in hospital after my c section 6 weeks ago, lady across from me was talking to a nurse. The conversation went like this-

Nurse “he’s gorgeous! Does he have a name?”
Lady “yeh he’s legend king, after my dad”
Nurse “ooh....lovely!”
Lady “yeah named him after my dad as my dad died yesterday, same day e was born”
Nurse “oh I’m so sorry!”
Lady “it’s alright happened years ago, he was stabbed never liked the bastard serves him right!”
Nurse “okay! Right you can have these pain killers...”

😂😂 know I shouldn’t laugh but me and my mum told everyone at Christmas.

Names and stories please!

From a friend who is a nurse. She looked after a baby called Harley, nothing unusual or odd about that, but his brother was called Charley and spelt that way too.

Realitea · 10/01/2019 07:09

I’ll never forget the thread on another ‘mum’ website where the op asked what they thought of her son’s name
It was J-Cub
She got pretty annoyed when people asked her to rethink the spelling

@whatamidoingwithmylife I also know a Manhattan! She's an adult though, goes by Hattie.

A couple I know named their daughter Isla- nothing wrong with that but their surname is White!

Tobykins · 10/01/2019 07:23

There was an acquaintance at work who called their daughter Story as the dad liked books.

imip · 10/01/2019 07:24

Beau and rain or derivations of, may indicate that the family have previously not a child. I’ve had a stillbirth and while I’m not a fan of this, it’s common for a subsequent child to be called a rainbow baby and may have a name indicating this.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 10/01/2019 07:40

Idris is an excellent name imo. Both Welsh and Arabic, it's been borne by some notable people.

SweetheartNeckline · 10/01/2019 08:05

As always, loads of casual racism at worst or, at best, total ignorance of other cultures on this thread.

Idris is a well used Welsh name, we have several in our family over the generations. It is also used in Arabic (Idrissa, which is Idris Elba's full name.) It is common to use beautiful joyous adjectives used in African culture. Thanos / Nemo are Greek. There are alternative spellings of various names, lots of Polish Oskars, Welsh Tomoses etc, doesn't make them wrong.

It's not always obvious if people are being "yooneek".

Ladymargarethall · 10/01/2019 08:11

Midwives often ask how perfectly ordinary names will.be spelt. Think Jonathan/Johnathan/Jonathon/.

sirmione16 · 10/01/2019 08:13

Purple. "Like the colour" Hmm

Sexnotgender · 10/01/2019 08:28

My BIL talks about going to school with Robert Barr.... shortened obviously by his friends to Bob

I know a Robert Barr. Also called Bob.

DameSquashalot · 10/01/2019 08:32

What Fruminous said

Sexnotgender · 10/01/2019 08:34

When my daughter was in hospital there was a young boy called Malcolm which is a lovely name. Shame his second name was also Malcolm!

Borntobeamum · 10/01/2019 08:35

Twins - Huni Blossom and Smamfa - unfortunately spelling isnt the mums greatest attribute 🤪

Fundays12 · 10/01/2019 08:41

Princess Bambi I mean why? I hate any names starting in Princess probably because every child I have met who was called Princess constantly or are named it are very badly behaved spoilt little madams.

BlueJag · 10/01/2019 08:48

Harley and Queen twin girls. Just awful.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 10/01/2019 10:02

I worked overseas and many names had apostrophes in them. As in La'Keisha. I my ignorance I asked a colleague what the missing letter was.

I have cousins, Soul and Bear but I've come to like those. A friend has Dharma and Phoenix.

I worked with a Michael Hunt. He was never Mike.

SleepingStandingUp · 10/01/2019 10:19

I thought there could be no worse name for a baby boy than my neighbour who named her baby Idris, about 6 months ago
Not an Idris Elba fan then?

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 10/01/2019 10:21

Sweetpea

SleepingStandingUp · 10/01/2019 10:22

,Thanos / Nemo are Greek.
And yet if you ask the parents why they picked it, there's a good chance for many families in the UK it's more movie based than Greek.

Birdsgottafly · 10/01/2019 10:26

I'm glad I'm not the first one to spot the casual Racism. I'm usually the first one pointing it out in these threads.

"And yet if you ask the parents why they picked it, there's a good chance for many families in the UK it's more movie based than Greek."

Well you know what they say about assumption.

Birdsgottafly · 10/01/2019 10:33

sayanythingelse, I'm really offended, one of them is my Rabbit's name.

Birdsgottafly · 10/01/2019 10:35

"yes but in rural England he’s the only Thanos we know"

It's a shame but these stupid foreigners with their dumb names get everywhere these days.

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 10/01/2019 10:40

Cinnamon, America, Calypso, Paisley I went to school with.

Aoiffe is a silly name. Imagine your whole life trying to correct people, and it doesn't even sound nice. Siobhan doesn't look much but is a great sounding name.....

Bigonesmallone3 · 10/01/2019 10:41

Paisley is nice!
