I’m talking the ridiculous ones, so not meaning to offend anyone. If you remember the story how you heard it please include that too!

Mine Grin
When I was in hospital after my c section 6 weeks ago, lady across from me was talking to a nurse. The conversation went like this-

Nurse “he’s gorgeous! Does he have a name?”
Lady “yeh he’s legend king, after my dad”
Nurse “ooh....lovely!”
Lady “yeah named him after my dad as my dad died yesterday, same day e was born”
Nurse “oh I’m so sorry!”
Lady “it’s alright happened years ago, he was stabbed never liked the bastard serves him right!”
Nurse “okay! Right you can have these pain killers...”

😂😂 know I shouldn’t laugh but me and my mum told everyone at Christmas.

Names and stories please!

Meadow was popularised by the Sopranos I imagine. Theon, by GoT (vile character but superb actor). Meadow’s best friend was called Hunter which is pretty awful.

Love Juniper, Lucky, Dakota and a few others that have been mentioned. Even Brian and Desmond are decent enough names, just a bit 1959.

Some of the tales on this thread are very obviously made-up.

One of the girls on Teen Mom USA has a daughter called Jaxsie - which is a British slang word for your arse. Every time i hear it i inwardly recoil.

A distant relation of mine was given the name of a piece of agricultural equipment, because he was born the same year his parents bought it.

Sadly it's far too outing to reveal, but along the same lines as Tractor...

Unpopular opinion but I don’t like the names Amelia and Olivia

I’m so with you @Hadenoughofitall441

I would much rather some of the “whacky” names on this thread than yet more of these!

I was at school with a lad whose surname was made up of two slightly old-fashioned (at the time) boys' names, neither of which are usual as surnames anyway, along the lines of 'Keith-Brian'. When his sister was born the parents gave her a double-barrelled first name, which I always thought was slightly strange.

I am sorry but Aoife is the ugliest name I have ever heard. It's just such an awful sound.

mathanxiety · 15/08/2019 17:58

Do you dislike Eva too?

sprite25 · 17/08/2019 18:23

I take DS to a playgroup where there's a boy called Harry-beau (pronounced the same as the sweets)

mama345 what is wrong with Bronwyn? An old Welsh name.

Mangofandangoo · 17/08/2019 23:42

A friend of mine claimed to go to university with a lad named Hugh which all sounds very normal until you put it with his surname 'cumber'

Someone I went to school with and now only stay in touch with on Facebook named her daughter Twinkle. TWINKLE. AS A FULL NAME. It’s definitely not a nickname. They’ve posted photos of certificates with it on and everything.

Koalablue · 18/08/2019 06:53

Atlas. Baby is not born yet so there is hope.

Mangofandangoo · 18/08/2019 07:06

@GirlRaisedInTheSouth

That's amazing 😂 I've always just shrugged it off thinking it can't possibly be true!

NotQuiteUsual · 18/08/2019 07:08

Bit outing, but I have a Coraline. When introducing her we just tell people:

"Like Caroline but spelt wrong"

Grin No point denying it really is there?

HJWT · 18/08/2019 07:29

Apparently names from children's show's are becoming quite popular in the UK, like the dogs from Paw Patrol, Chase, Ryder, Skye. Also people naming their chiLd Duggee same as the kids show Hey Duggee 😂

Aren’t people familiar enough with it from the book and film?

NotQuiteUsual · 18/08/2019 09:46

Plinkplunkfizz generally no, or if they are, they assume they've misheard me. The conversation usually goes like this:

"Oh she's so cute what's her name?"
"Thank you, she's called Coraline"
"...Caroline?"
"No, Coraline, like the film"
"..."
"Like Caroline, but spelt wrong"
"Oh! Oh how lovely"

Then we change the subject and get on with our lives.
