I’m talking the ridiculous ones, so not meaning to offend anyone. If you remember the story how you heard it please include that too!

Mine Grin
When I was in hospital after my c section 6 weeks ago, lady across from me was talking to a nurse. The conversation went like this-

Nurse “he’s gorgeous! Does he have a name?”
Lady “yeh he’s legend king, after my dad”
Nurse “ooh....lovely!”
Lady “yeah named him after my dad as my dad died yesterday, same day e was born”
Nurse “oh I’m so sorry!”
Lady “it’s alright happened years ago, he was stabbed never liked the bastard serves him right!”
Nurse “okay! Right you can have these pain killers...”

😂😂 know I shouldn’t laugh but me and my mum told everyone at Christmas.

Names and stories please!

A lot of truly awful names. So chavy. I'm all for unusual names that are actually NAMES, Bluebell, Cosmo etc but names that are not spelt correct and just a load of shite! Some people need to really be sent back to school before they ever even contemplate having kids!

BusterGonad · 10/01/2019 02:41

Correctly. Ffs. Auto correct!

Redcrayonisthebest · 10/01/2019 05:13

Were they African? They are fairly common names amongst people from African countries aren't they?

They were and yes sorry wasn't having a pop at African names just the sheer joyful ness of the three names together made me smile when I heard them all together.

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 10/01/2019 05:37

Candelora-Light- Yeah, I know.

Misty Mountaintop- Hardcore Led Zeppelin fans?

MrsSchadenfreude · 10/01/2019 06:06

How else would you pronounce Beau? Confused

Child registered on the same day as DD2 was Stargazer Lily.

Bluesheep8 · 10/01/2019 06:09

Coriander has been mentioned. Isn't there a Coriander in The Archers?

HopeGarden · 10/01/2019 06:24

Also, a good rule of thumb is if the midwife asks how to spell your name of choice, then you probably need to have a rethink.

Not necessarily.

There’s a fair number of well established, unexceptional names, with well established variant spellings.

Such as

Ann / Anne
Catherine / Katharine / Kathryn
Philip / Phillip
Stephen / Steven

Bezalelle · 10/01/2019 06:26

"Female"? Hmm

That didn't actually happen though, Bora.

heeblejeeble · 10/01/2019 06:33

I'd never heard the name Beau before only seen it written down so I was pronouncing it 'bew' like the start of beautiful. Thought it was an odd name then heard someone say 'bow' and that made more sense. Grin

Cookit · 10/01/2019 06:34

Beau pronounced like 'bow'

How else?

HarrySnotter · 10/01/2019 06:40

When I had DC3 a couple of months ago the woman in the bay next to me was facetiming her older son and said "meet your sister, this is Venezuela".

I feel so sorry for children with names that are so out there and non names.

WatchingTheWheels85 · 10/01/2019 06:51

I always read these threads to see if any of my children's name's are mentioned and for the first time my ds2 (12) was. He is Denver, named because when he was born the first song I heard was annies song by John Denver. He loves his name and that's all that matters to me Smile

FruminousBandersnatch · 10/01/2019 06:51

Some horrible sneeriness on this thread. Some of the names are from non Anglo cultures which shows an embarrassing level of intolerance and ignorance in 2019. Some of them aren’t to my taste but slagging them off is really tasteless.

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 10/01/2019 06:54

@heeblejeeble, Beau is a very common name in the South in the U.S. I'm sure it's pretty uncommon in the UK though. Beau is also short for "boyfriend" there and used affectionately. Smile

spatchcock · 10/01/2019 06:55

“Also, a good rule of thumb is if the midwife asks how to spell your name of choice, then you probably need to have a rethink.“

How ignorant is that comment?! I can only imagine that poster has never met anyone from another culture.

BillyAndTheSillies · 10/01/2019 06:57

Reign-Nelly. Separately not great but fine. Together? Just why???

SayNoToCarrots · 10/01/2019 07:03
