I’m talking the ridiculous ones, so not meaning to offend anyone. If you remember the story how you heard it please include that too!

Mine Grin
When I was in hospital after my c section 6 weeks ago, lady across from me was talking to a nurse. The conversation went like this-

Nurse “he’s gorgeous! Does he have a name?”
Lady “yeh he’s legend king, after my dad”
Nurse “ooh....lovely!”
Lady “yeah named him after my dad as my dad died yesterday, same day e was born”
Nurse “oh I’m so sorry!”
Lady “it’s alright happened years ago, he was stabbed never liked the bastard serves him right!”
Nurse “okay! Right you can have these pain killers...”

😂😂 know I shouldn’t laugh but me and my mum told everyone at Christmas.

Names and stories please!

What about Ilyla, (Isla). Really.

xsquared · 24/03/2019 22:16

ShaggyRug or his parents may have named him after Maxim De Winter from "Rebecca". I think it's common enough not to be primarily associated with the lads mag.

There were some crackers on the Telegraph name announcement site. One stuck with me. Along the lines of 'Welcome Alexandra. Sister to Minnie and Falafel (!), Bimbi and Lamba and Othello.

That's a whole bunch of children who will never find anything with their names printed on in the shops.

A child in my class, whose mother is a teacher, swears blind that her mum has a child in her class called L- (la dash). I scoffed, but she was adamant.

Dc1 does to school with a Chardonnay. It just reminds me of the tv series footballers wives. Oh and a Tee-Jai.

Dc2 goes to school with Daisy-Bo,
a Blueberry and I think we have 2/3 in the year named Ethel.

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 24/03/2019 22:38

I went to school with a Truleigh.

FinnegansWhiskers One of my cats is called Trevor, the other one is Alan. I’ve just got a puppy and called him Steve Grin

Nothing to add to the worst names part as I don’t think I’ve ever come across a truly awful name. Lots of names that aren’t to my taste, I’m sure my DC’s names and those of my pets wouldn’t be liked by many. I do find it interesting seeing names and meanings from other parts of the world and different cultures.

So many urban myths on here.
I met a lovely African lady called Beautiful. Fortunately she was. Cause or effect?!

martinidry · 24/03/2019 23:07

Destiny
Breeze
Albae
Skyla (also a contraceptive)
Tuppence
Phoenix
Elvis, the smiliest little boy ever. Smile
Alan
Tammy (a boy)
Starlillie
And a baby Terry who has ten or eleven hyphenated names following it (think Terry-John-Paul-Fred- etc).

ProfessorofPerspective · 25/03/2019 00:36

I think I overheard this properly but a lady in the supermarket today was telling an acquaintance that her baby grandson in the pram she was pushing was called Bland. She even did an eyeroll as she said it.

WattdeEll · 25/03/2019 01:17

Brady. shudder I hate seeing this written down and I do judge that it hasn’t been thought through that the parents named their child the same surname as a notorious child killer.
More unusual than worst:
Shestin
Peredur
Nailor

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 25/03/2019 01:32

Millie-dolly. At first I thought the dolly part was a cute nickname but no, that's the whole name.

It just sounds silly and a little like a Cbeebies character.

bettythebutterfly · 25/03/2019 01:36

I met a Kensington last week (nickname Kensi). I live in the US and they seem to love British place names as baby names; I have also met a 3yo Acton.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 25/03/2019 02:11

When ds1 was tiny I met someone who had called her baby Lilith. She would now be about 22 and I wonder if she's renamed herself Lily.

andpeggy1 · 25/03/2019 03:00

Lanesra, which as arsenal spelt backwards 🙈 pronounced La-nes-ra. So so so awful

Posy. She’s currently a small baby, not sure it’s the right name for a child or adult

WattdeEll · 25/03/2019 07:52

Oh and Havana, the particular regional accent it is said with makes it very difficult to hear what the name is.

CutesyUserName · 25/03/2019 08:55

Lemon (girl) and Wyatt.
