I’m talking the ridiculous ones, so not meaning to offend anyone. If you remember the story how you heard it please include that too!

Mine Grin
When I was in hospital after my c section 6 weeks ago, lady across from me was talking to a nurse. The conversation went like this-

Nurse “he’s gorgeous! Does he have a name?”
Lady “yeh he’s legend king, after my dad”
Nurse “ooh....lovely!”
Lady “yeah named him after my dad as my dad died yesterday, same day e was born”
Nurse “oh I’m so sorry!”
Lady “it’s alright happened years ago, he was stabbed never liked the bastard serves him right!”
Nurse “okay! Right you can have these pain killers...”

😂😂 know I shouldn’t laugh but me and my mum told everyone at Christmas.

Names and stories please!

@pandoraphile I love the name Godfrey - it reminds me of a mediaeval knight. Not sure I'd have the balls to use it, though...

I once met a (white, English) girl whose first name was Truly Scrumptious

And my parents were once invited to a party held by a couple called Felicity and Richard Dick....... so Flick and Dick Dick!

I once met a (white, English) girl whose first name was Truly Scrumptious

She and her parents sound a lot more fun and interesting than the Henry, George Charlotte and Olivia mob who are slagging off other people's names on this thread.

Moominfan · 14/01/2019 19:48

Came across a bane and bronson today

"There is a Kenny as well which is fairly unusual, but he is Chinese and this is his western name."

Is it really that unusual? Kenny G, Kenny Thomas, off the top of my head. I knew someone at Chinese school also called Kenny.

I

Dsis also taught a five year old Dennis last year.

There are loads of “old” names which are coming back. I’d love to name dc2 if a girl Thora. But dh has already vetoed. Or Mabel. Or loveday.

ShadyLady53 · 14/01/2019 20:54

I also went to school with a Chinese Ken/Kenny. His Chinese name had Ken in it.

I’ve taught many Chinese children who have an “English” name and a Chinese name. The English names are often unusual - Vanilla, Apple, Fantasy etc but to me totally normal after years of coming across unusual names.

Dosmamas · 14/01/2019 20:57

Walter.

I don't understand. Thousands of beautiful names for boys and they went with Walter?

Shockers · 14/01/2019 20:59

Truly Scrumptious, you’re truly, truly scrumptious- scrumptious as a cherry peach parfait.... Smile

I always loved that song!

sayitisntsojo · 14/01/2019 21:02

I once knew a little boy called Godlove. They called him Goddy and he was one of the cutest little people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing

ChikiTIKI · 14/01/2019 21:09

Caspian

LowbrowVictoriana · 14/01/2019 21:38

Apple Martin is a privileged child but her name is still rather a burden

A burden for whom? You?
Not sure how you can comment on whether or not it's a burden for anyone else, including the child herself.

TBNightMare · 14/01/2019 23:29

Sisters called Mahiki and Missoni. And a Lliam which I thought was welsh and tried to pronounce it as such but apparently it’s a ‘unique’ spelling of Liam as Liam was too common.

feeona123 · 14/01/2019 23:43

Tuppence

xsquared · 15/01/2019 00:19

Shadylady53. we had a a teacher called Purple in Chinese school

I've also met Hong Kongers who share the same name as animated characters or dolls. Colours and fruit are also relatively common in Chinese English names.

AnxiousCucumber · 15/01/2019 01:21

Ahh my eldest DD has been mentioned here numerous times, and it has got incredibly common in more recent years. I still love the name and she does too at 16, so it's all good imo 😊

One of my middle girls names is usually mistakenly misread as Nevaeh and it grates on me every time. She's quick to correct people about it for sure..

I'm not a fan of the top100 names although 2 of my girls names are now in it.
I prefer less traditional choices but not a fan of the serenity/Ava/Brandon etc

I met a teen called Zen recently, and I just couldn't.. surely like serenity it's just jinxing yourself to have a child who either doesn't live up to their name or they feel the pressure to.. 😕

Bloodybridget · 15/01/2019 01:32

An old neighbour introduced her lovely baby to me as Buster. Oh, I said, what's his real name? Whoops . .

Hollyhobbi · 15/01/2019 01:33

Ethan. Nothing wrong with his first name but his surname is Dicks! And his parents are highly educated to make it worse!

AlrightBabby · 15/01/2019 02:13

DS was at school with a lovely girl whose name I don't really want to put on here, but suffice to say it sounded just like Heil Hitler when said out loud.

Shockers · 15/01/2019 06:32

What should Mr & Mrs Dicks have named their son then, Hollyhobbi?

If it’s their surname that’s the problem, surely there’s not much they can do. Or am I missing something about the two names together?

RavenWings · 15/01/2019 06:46

Ethan Dicks = Eating dicks. One of the worst things you can choose for that surname.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 15/01/2019 06:52

I know a King Harold. Known as Kingy.

WingsofNylon · 15/01/2019 07:34

I normally enjoy an odd name thread but some people are really showing their ignorance of other cultures here. Many of these names are standard American, African and European names! These parents aren't necessarily trying to be unique or spell names oddly. You are just making yourselves look dumb.

Tattletale · 15/01/2019 08:13

I encountered a little boy called Diesel on Saturday. Didn't like to ask if his sister was called petrol...
