I’m talking the ridiculous ones, so not meaning to offend anyone. If you remember the story how you heard it please include that too!

Mine Grin
When I was in hospital after my c section 6 weeks ago, lady across from me was talking to a nurse. The conversation went like this-

Nurse “he’s gorgeous! Does he have a name?”
Lady “yeh he’s legend king, after my dad”
Nurse “ooh....lovely!”
Lady “yeah named him after my dad as my dad died yesterday, same day e was born”
Nurse “oh I’m so sorry!”
Lady “it’s alright happened years ago, he was stabbed never liked the bastard serves him right!”
Nurse “okay! Right you can have these pain killers...”

😂😂 know I shouldn’t laugh but me and my mum told everyone at Christmas.

Names and stories please!

There's a youtube family with 10 children. I thought she was just using nicknames but apparently it's real.

Shakespeare.
Jerusalem.
Nefertiti.

There was also a young boy called Valentino in Sainsburys which I liked.

frustratedashell · 12/01/2019 17:05

Raven

pandoraphile · 12/01/2019 17:19

My friend had a baby boy and named him Orion, then quantified it with "After the stars, not the car." It made me chuckle for weeks!

HuffHuff · 12/01/2019 17:34

NC for this.

There's a little girl in my DCs Nursery called Zu (pronounced Zoo)

When asked if it was short for something they said no, her names Zu.

Verbena87 · 12/01/2019 17:54

I really like Cosmo and Blessing

What a mean thread.
I am surprised about some of the names mentioned on here. I live in a very multicultural area and there is a huge variety of names - many of them sound weird to me but I actually like the variety. I also prefer the "unusual" names to the ubiquitous George, Emily etc. Yawn.
Also, remember that while you think you're laughing at the parents' choice of names, you are actually laughing about a child ffs! How horrid is that!

AuditAngel · 12/01/2019 21:50

Orangecake my son is called Valentino. We also hav3 friends who pinched it for their son too (but asked first)

ChubRubTheStruggleIsReal · 12/01/2019 22:21

3 friends that pinched your sons name??
I’d throw a tantrum if that happened to me

OpalIridescence · 12/01/2019 22:46

Im on the thread waiting to see if my daughter makes the list! Not yet.

I met a newborn called Basil once. Quite liked it.

Nothisispatrick · 12/01/2019 23:08

I think lots of pp must live very sheltered lives because lots of these names are lovely and not hugely unusual.

Valentino is lovely btw.

HereBeFuckery · 12/01/2019 23:25

There's a boy in my daughter's class called Xenon. Like the headlamps. Grin
Maybe they think he's dazzlingly bright...

SwingoutSisterSledge · 12/01/2019 23:41

Glen

MoonSafarix · 12/01/2019 23:44

Aurora. Terrible name, I can't believe so many people like it.

CruCru · 12/01/2019 23:47

I’ve met quite a few men called Wisdom and Blessing - all in Southern Africa. I’ve also met women here called Constance, Patience and Hope.

I do see what people mean about this thread possibly being rather unkind. However, Ihave met a few people (all at work) who had changed their names - one woman said that her original name just didn’t reflect the person she was (it wasn’t as weird as some on here but I saw her point).

When naming a child, it’s quite unkind to pick something properly weird (not just unusual) - Apple Martin is a privileged child but her name is still rather a burden.

I like it, I think it'sfar prettier than Dawn

Ribbonsonabox · 13/01/2019 00:18

Aurora is a lovely name. People do associate it with Disney though so that's why we didnt end up using it.

cheercaptain · 13/01/2019 00:23

Desire.
Givenchy.
Both girls.

Ribbonsonabox · 13/01/2019 00:23

And I dont think celebrity out there baby names are that much of a burden. They will be surrounded by other people with mental names it will just be normal.
Ditto in the circles of the wealthy. I went to a public school briefly due to my parents winning some money and you could not move for Allegras, Tiggys, Cassiopeias, and I even knew a girl called Strawberry...

AJPTaylor · 13/01/2019 08:41

I was at uni with an African woman called Happiness. Happy for short. I still think it is the best name ever. She said it was a permanent reminder to her of how loved she was. And you could not say her name without smiling.

This ^^

MoonSafarix · 13/01/2019 09:28

The sound of Aurora is not easy for English people. Too many Rs. Doesn't roll off the tongue at all. Mind you, it doesn't sound better in an American accent. Each to their own but it is not an obvious 'sound' to turn in to a name and it would have continued to gather dust if it weren't for Disney.

Seline · 13/01/2019 09:31

Tarleigha.

Why not just Thalia?! Why ruin it?!
