I’m talking the ridiculous ones, so not meaning to offend anyone. If you remember the story how you heard it please include that too!

Mine Grin
When I was in hospital after my c section 6 weeks ago, lady across from me was talking to a nurse. The conversation went like this-

Nurse “he’s gorgeous! Does he have a name?”
Lady “yeh he’s legend king, after my dad”
Nurse “ooh....lovely!”
Lady “yeah named him after my dad as my dad died yesterday, same day e was born”
Nurse “oh I’m so sorry!”
Lady “it’s alright happened years ago, he was stabbed never liked the bastard serves him right!”
Nurse “okay! Right you can have these pain killers...”

😂😂 know I shouldn’t laugh but me and my mum told everyone at Christmas.

Names and stories please!

Oh all right then. An example, not exact but you'll get the general idea. Victoria-Beckham Surname; Rod-Stewart Surname and Jon Bon-Jovi Surname. As above, full moniker please.

! How could I have forgotten Pebbles?

HoraceCope · 10/01/2019 22:23

@ CottonSock Fee-Oh-Bee
I think they didn’t realise when reading Phoebe in a baby name book that it was the popular name we all know, Phoebe...probably thought that that name was spelled Feebie. They read it and though “ummm Pheobe, that’s an unusual name”.

It was announced by text and I text back “Oh Phoebe, what a lovely name!” Got back, “Yeah but it’s spelled Pheobe hun lol! Glad you like it.” I text back “Sorry, unusual spelling! How are you pronouncing it?” and she sent “Phe-o-be x” 😳

I worked with a Niomee once who would become infuriated when people called Naomi. “FFS it’s Ny-oh-mee, are people stupid?!”...Well your parents called you a made up name.. vent your.stress at them! Same for Ellice who’d get angry when people thought she was Alice and Jamsin when she’d get called Jasmine or Tamsin.

I also know a Pebbles.

I once knew a Gerwain. He explained his mum had just "made it up" 😂

Flatwhite32 · 10/01/2019 22:49

Balthazar Edward Peverell Midnight Winter.

This was in The Times. Grin

cheesenpickles · 10/01/2019 22:52

I also heard a friend of a friend called her kid Knoxie-Koa (boy). Apparently it was a family name?

Oh and someone else called their kid Harley-Quinn 🤦🏼‍♀️

cheesenpickles · 10/01/2019 22:56

And I went to school with a Tarzana and Valhalla... though their mum was a famous 80s pop star so it's understandable.

SleepingStandingUp · 10/01/2019 22:59

I'm NICU - twins - neo and trinity
See I think that's kinda cute. Partly biased as I really wanted Trinity when I was younger

YolandiFuckinVisser · 10/01/2019 23:18

I know a young woman called Rizla. According to DS her mum is Virginia and her sister is Amber but I think he's making that up. I want her brother to be Drum but he's not, sadly.

RavenWings · 10/01/2019 23:19

Calibrate, for a girl. Not that it's necessarily any better on a boy...

PurpleDaisies · 10/01/2019 23:20

That sounds like a team name on the apprentice!

giggly · 10/01/2019 23:27

We have a London in our very Glasgow Brownies. Hate to say it but it’s an English family. 🙄

MrsDeltaB · 10/01/2019 23:29

Three girls here, all end in 'ee' sound but spelt ie. I was asked how I'm spelling them and genuinely couldn't think how else they meant. Have since learned!

If it's a 'bog standard' name with a different spelling then fair enough.

I still remember years ago, in a public loo hearing Kio Ra (but said as one word) and could help but think of the squash and animals dancing! Boogie boogie!

Longdistance · 10/01/2019 23:32

Xenon.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 10/01/2019 23:34

I thought my neighbour's choice of Renesmee was bad enough, then I heard about my nan's friend, whose granddaughter has named her daughter London Sydney. She lives in Leicester...

Drogosnextwife · 10/01/2019 23:34

Can't actually write it as it's family but it's alcohol related 🙄

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 10/01/2019 23:35

I know a Bo, poor kid, hes about 4. And a lula-bell, and I used to love the name Connor, untill I heard my neighbour scream 'CONNOR! 'ERE! TEAS DONE!'

Jezzifishie · 10/01/2019 23:38

AndNoneForGretchenWieners I don't get the Renesmee thing. Wasn't it a combination of the grandmothers' names? Surely if you liked it that much, you'd use your own family's names?

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 10/01/2019 23:48

jezz yep. The parents had an agreement that the dad names boys after his favourite film/tv character names, and the mum can do the same if it's a girl. Their son is called Lincoln. The sad thing is, Renee or Esme on their own are quite pretty names.

SleepingStandingUp · 10/01/2019 23:57

Renesmee it's the kid from Twilight isn't it, the baby? And yeah it's a name combo thing
