I’m talking the ridiculous ones, so not meaning to offend anyone. If you remember the story how you heard it please include that too!

Mine Grin
When I was in hospital after my c section 6 weeks ago, lady across from me was talking to a nurse. The conversation went like this-

Nurse “he’s gorgeous! Does he have a name?”
Lady “yeh he’s legend king, after my dad”
Nurse “ooh....lovely!”
Lady “yeah named him after my dad as my dad died yesterday, same day e was born”
Nurse “oh I’m so sorry!”
Lady “it’s alright happened years ago, he was stabbed never liked the bastard serves him right!”
Nurse “okay! Right you can have these pain killers...”

😂😂 know I shouldn’t laugh but me and my mum told everyone at Christmas.

Names and stories please!

Tuesday. Surname was Knight! I had to call the poor kids name out in a room full of patients!

Vivino · 11/01/2019 00:01

@MrsDeltaB kia ora is one of the most common Māori words there is, are you sure it was being used as a name and not in conversation? Although I suppose the pronunciation of that racist cordial is totally different to the te reo pronunciation!

Queengirl and Surprise. They were cousins and of African descent.

Someone I knew years ago who worked in Births and marriages section said that someone had given their son the name Orson Cart and swore it was true!

Wenttoseainasieve · 11/01/2019 00:24

I used to know a girl called Opium. Really don't know what her parents were thinking.

SleepingStandingUp · 11/01/2019 00:40

Really don't know what her parents were thinking taking

Saw a chap a few years ago with a large tattoo on his back 'Rosie-leigh'. He was having a proper fist fight with his mother on Weymouth beach during carnival day. . She was giving as good as she got, mind you.

Bouncingbelle · 11/01/2019 03:37

A lovely little girl i know called...Moxy.

Poxy moxy. Just...why?!?!

Bouncingbelle · 11/01/2019 04:01

Oh! But the worst pairing i've ever heard were brothers who went to school with my DB. Andrew & Peter. Surname Ness.

A Ness and P Ness

Nonomore3 · 11/01/2019 04:14

@mrsg8
I thought that was the pronunciation! How is it meant to be?

RebootYourEngine · 11/01/2019 04:50

Some of the names listed are lovely.

I suppose some names are ridiculous and others are personal choice. The world would be boring if we all liked the same names.

Monkey500 · 11/01/2019 06:43

When I was in hospital the young lady opposite named her baby girl Cherokee to be fair it was before Tesco's had arrived in town Hmm

HighlandWorrier · 11/01/2019 07:08

Anyone else think in the op it's a bit strange to name baby after grandad then go on to say serves him right for being stabbed to death, never liked him? 🙄

Namechangeforthisnamethread · 11/01/2019 07:45

First name Snow
Last name White

BFGgirl · 11/01/2019 07:55

@gustof what on earth is wrong with the name Pollie?!

CottonSock · 11/01/2019 08:00

@ShadyLady53, thanks, so kind of like theo-bee...

Deathraystare · 11/01/2019 08:07

Idris is an excellent name imo. Both Welsh and Arabic, it's been borne by some notable people.

And a dragon!

NotTooBeautiful · 11/01/2019 08:34

Years ago I worked with a lady who had a very large baby. I think he was about 11lb, apparently the midwife said something like “wow, he’s a bit of a bruiser!”

So that was it, he was named Bruiser. I really hope he didn’t grow up to be a wimpy little chap.

pollysproggle · 11/01/2019 08:44

I'm in a Facebook group with women around the world who all had babies due around the same time.
One members daughter is called Deliverance.

MrsDeltaB · 11/01/2019 08:55

@Vivino point taken and didn't intend to be offensive. However they were not even remotely from the culture and I simply giggled about a squash drink from childhood. 😁

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 11/01/2019 08:59

Sheriff, he was Nigerian. Fabulous name, I actually love the Nigerian names.

ShadyLady53 · 11/01/2019 09:08

@CottonSock yes but the emphasis on the oh - phee-OH-bee.

Chella45 · 11/01/2019 09:20

Im in a facebook group that attracts alternative types, and i swear theres a competition on how badly you can spell versions of pheonix (not just the which way round round to put the eo). Lots of random f' and x's eg feonixx

Last one i saw was a feenixx ryiat (pronounced pheonix riot)

Why make the spelling deliberately difficult?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/01/2019 09:42

I thought Peen-Lope was a really weird name.

But I was only 6 and had never heard of a Penelope, hence wondering What on earth? when I saw it on one of the reception-intake pegs at school.

There was a Nash'ae (IIRC) in last night's Secret Life of 4 year olds.
Sounds quite nice aloud, but the poor kid is going to have a lifetime of spelling it out.

KipperTheFrog · 11/01/2019 09:44

Disney
Brothers - Jaydee (because the dad likes Jack Daniels whiskey) Ajay and Ljay.
