I’m talking the ridiculous ones, so not meaning to offend anyone. If you remember the story how you heard it please include that too!

Mine Grin
When I was in hospital after my c section 6 weeks ago, lady across from me was talking to a nurse. The conversation went like this-

Nurse “he’s gorgeous! Does he have a name?”
Lady “yeh he’s legend king, after my dad”
Nurse “ooh....lovely!”
Lady “yeah named him after my dad as my dad died yesterday, same day e was born”
Nurse “oh I’m so sorry!”
Lady “it’s alright happened years ago, he was stabbed never liked the bastard serves him right!”
Nurse “okay! Right you can have these pain killers...”

😂😂 know I shouldn’t laugh but me and my mum told everyone at Christmas.

Names and stories please!

Some of the sneerers are simply displaying their own ignorance. Calypso is a perfectly normal Greek name. The most famous owner of it had a starring rôle in Homer's Odyssey.

LittleSwede · 10/01/2019 14:07

A childhood friend of mine always said he'd name his son Loki (as in Thor's brother in Viking mythology) and he did Grin

@LittleSwede too be honest that's quite a sweet name! I love GOT but unfortunately don't feel able to use 'Mother of Dragons' (or Daenerys for shortWink)

NoughtDegreesNought · 10/01/2019 14:11

Levi and Denim ... I'm keen to know what baby 3 was called and if they followed the theme.

Perhaps twin girls, a pair of Jeans? Sorry, couldn't resist ... I'll get my coat.

dannydyerismydad · 10/01/2019 14:12

A pair of Jeans. Genius!

NoughtDegreesNought · 10/01/2019 14:12

To those who say they "hate threads like these as they're so mean spirited" my advice is don't look at them then.
At my old age I have no interest in threads about pregnancy or TTC etc so I just hide those threads. I certainly wouldn't go on them to post a pointless opinion.

Ruby-Ella

Neighbour.

(She must have missed the rubella connection)

WhyDidIEatThat · 10/01/2019 14:43

It’s not pointless to remind people that many of us are uncomfortable with xenophobia, racism or jeering at poor people - hopefully it will help make MN a slightly less toxic environment?

RoyalChocolat · 10/01/2019 14:45

There is a Sloane in DD's class.
We live in the French countryside and it is pronounced "slow-ann".

Spark658 · 10/01/2019 14:48

Have taught a Rhykka, Peanut ( saw it in black and white on the birth certificate), Del-Shaya and Freedom ( wouldn’t have been so bad but the child would tell anyone who would listen that he was named Freedom because he was born on the day that his Dad got out of prison on that occasion ).

GreenDinosaur · 10/01/2019 14:49

There was a little girl in a newspaper article called Rugbie that I found quite amusing.

uhtredsonofuhtred · 10/01/2019 14:53

Moondancer73 · 10/01/2019 14:54

Genuinely - went to school with my son

Elderflower14 · 10/01/2019 14:56

Cosmo is a Jilly Cooper name...

Elderflower14 · 10/01/2019 14:57

@RoyalChocolat. There is a US tennis player called Sloane Stevens.

Nixen · 10/01/2019 14:59

Oh I forgot the worst one- Starlette. It’s even worse because the mums other kid is Craig 😂

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 10/01/2019 15:00

My given name is commonplace, but my surname... you'll know when I've won the lottery, as a large man with a large stick will follow me about, correcting people's pronunciation and spelling.

RoyalChocolat · 10/01/2019 15:03

Elderflower14 I know it has been given before in the English-speaking world. But why would you give it to your French child when you don't know how to say it? It's a bit like being English with no link to Ireland and pronouncing Niamh phonetically.

NicoleNoPants · 10/01/2019 15:06

The majority of these aren’t real though are they.

Downeyhouse · 10/01/2019 15:13

Have a colleague whose children’s names are Italian and in English would be
Savage and Smile!

I suspect poor old Savage will be in therapy one day.

Elderflower14 · 10/01/2019 15:40

@RoyalChocolat agree! 👍
