I have bought the beautiful notebook.
I have fineliners
I have searched Pinterest.

I have many ideas for things I want to track etc but

I am scared to start.

I am not artistic.
It is the most expensive notebook I have ever bought and I really don't want to spoil it Blush

I use notepad on my iPhone, had it for years. Would this make me a wanker?

HexagonalBattenburg · 01/01/2019 13:33

Tried it - gave up as it wasn't for me - swapped to putting everything electronically into my iPad in Notability with my apple pencil - so I can do squared grid paper and a bajillion pretty colours of pen if I need to but I can also rub it all out when my handwriting looks terrible.

Trying to go as paperless as possible in the new year.

I did disappear down internet rabbit holes on pretty lettering on procreate for several weeks though.

Leuchtern (?)

"Leuchtturm" (pronounced Loishtome) - is German for "lighthouse" Grin

Another BuJo Wanker reporting for duty!

I love the simplicity of it all. Everything I need, all in one place. I can make it as fancy or as plain as I want (usually changes depending on my mood/ time constraints) and I feel totally lost without it.

I'm on my fourth book now and its a game changer.

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 01/01/2019 15:10

I have heard of bullet journals but your title mystifies me! I looked up these journals though and there's a whole lot of repetition involved, a huge amount of time wasted drawing out calendars. I just use a page-a-day diary, but use the bullet system for 'to do's etc. but again rather than write the to-dos out everyday I just have them in one big list at the beginning, you can always insert more pages. Then I stick things like tickets in there, small bits of text about funny things the kids have said, etc.

SoupDragon · 01/01/2019 15:29

time wasted

Time spent doing something you enjoy or that helps you is never wasted.

MagentaRocks · 01/01/2019 15:30

I like drawing out calendars and things. I do it in nice colours and find it very relaxing. I do everything in pencil first and then go over it with nice pens. I don’t consider it a waste of time as I enjoy it and doing something like this keeps me focused on what I need to do and what I want to achieve.

HumourlessFeminist · 01/01/2019 15:31

Now that I've started my bullet journal, I can see some of the advantages of using a Filofax for bullet journaling - does anyone do this?

Would this make me a wanker?

your title mystifies me

'Bujo wanker' is an affectionate term deriving from some early MN threads about bullet journaling. I think it is a reference to the 'briefcase wanker!' insult in The Inbetweeners. To refer to oneself as a bujo wanker is to recognise that most of our nearest and dearest will be at best bemused by and immune to the joy that a dotted notebook, some coloured bottled ink and some list-making can bring.

To the pp who asked whether making lists on their phone made them a wanker - probably not, if it was solely utilitarian. To be a proper bujo wanker you have to really enjoy it Grin

Yellowsubmarine79 · 01/01/2019 17:36

I started one yesterday! Just used a cheap notebook to get started, no fancy colours or anything. If I stick to it I'll invest in a nicer one in a few months!

MadisonAvenue · 01/01/2019 18:11

You've all tempted me in. My journal and pens will be here on Thursday, not that I can do much with it just yet as I've knackered up my hand and can't hold a pen at the moment.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 01/01/2019 19:10

Already more motivated thanks to my magic journal, it's amazing. I had 3 jobs I would have put off but because they written down I made myself do them.

Efferlunt · 01/01/2019 19:43

I’ve found I’m also using it to note down feelings/impressions about things I’ve done which should be interesting to look back on. I hadn’t intended to do this when I started.

Just spent a few minutes with the kids asking them about their favourite meals. I’ve now got a list in the front of the journal I can refer to during those ‘what’s for tea’ moments.

Junebug123 · 01/01/2019 20:26

Starting mine tonight. Slightly nervous Grin

MunchMunch · 01/01/2019 21:20

I bought this book at B&M yesterday for £2.99 (found in the stationary section). I posted this on another thread and one poster said these are selling on amazon (sold out!) for £9.99...

I can only upload 3 photos but there's an annual review, vacation, events etc pages.

I’m setting up my new journal and want to canvas opinion - I am doing double page weekly spread, double page monthly spreads and a double page 6 month future log.

Would you do it in chronological order eg:
A) Jan monthly spread, 4 weekly spreads, Feb monthly spread, 4 weekly spreads etc for Jan - June then July - Dec future log.

Or in ‘page type’ order:

B) Jan monthly, Feb monthly, etc, July - Dec future log then all weekly spreads after that??

LumpySpacedPrincess · 01/01/2019 21:26

I don't allocate weekly spreads as I have no idea how much I'll need. I have index, then future log, monthly page and monthly habit tracker then just crack on with the weekly adding as you go but not pre deciding how much room you'll need.

OvertiredandConfused · 01/01/2019 21:36

I’ve been doing a bullet journal for just over a year. Most of the pages are very basic with just some doodling or colouring around the title. I have a few trackers on a monthly basis.

I mainly use it for “to do“ list and track 1-2-1s with my direct reports at work. They each have their own double page spread and I just start a new one as and when required.

I also have space to plan meals on the monthly basis (usually complete around a week or so ahead) and on the opposite page I have large post-it notes that are used to write my shopping list.

SassitudeandSparkle · 01/01/2019 21:41

Habit tracker - for me it's taking meds poor compliance and anything like that you want to track on a regular basis. Could be cleaning the kitchen after dinner, vitamins, exercise, reading.

I'll be using a diary for appointments and a wall calendar to track family appointments but want something to keep lists in, menu planning, perhaps put the birthdays in (I do have some in a book but never look at it Blush ) as I am not the most timely with sending cards.

justgivemewine · 01/01/2019 22:21

Marking place on thread :)

I started one last year, and its been a life saver, as far as being more organised is concerned.

I find the having everything in one place stress relieving. I no longer worry about forgetting something important. If it doesnt have a designated time it goes in the to-do list etc, but at least its down somewhere.

Mines quite basic, with a few doodles here and there, i cant do all the fancy artistic stuff you find on pinterest and stuff, and it changes from month to month as i decide what worked well or what could be better, but thats the beauty of the system, you adapt it to suit yourself.

Junebug123 · 01/01/2019 22:23

Finally got started on mine tonight after being a bit scared to start. Easier than I thought so if you are unsure where to start just go for it! Even enjoying being a bit creative which I definitely did not expect. I think I'm going to like this...

whywhywhywhywhyyy · 01/01/2019 23:34

I like my bullet journal, I do a lot of weird work schedules so I like being able to adjust the layout to what I actually need that week. If I'm off for a week I don't need a big two page spread, if I'm in for a heavy work week I can dutch door myself some big big boxes.

People get way too caught up in how they look though, no need for a load of trackers if you're only going to use two!

foreverblessedbee · 02/01/2019 02:30

I have been reading this thread over last couple of days and have now read all the original website bits about original bullet journaling and even watched the TED talk -My first one ever -o don't even know what it stands for!- by the guy who developed the system in the first place! I have just come off amazon quite a few quid lighter after buying his book, a gorgeous notebook and a set of 30 coloured bloody fineliners!!! I have recently arrived at the decision that i think i might have adhd (this at 43 years old mind...) and have struggled with the total ovwrwhelmingness of life for what seems like forever.....even more so since my husband, 3 children and 2 pets came along! I am probably officially THE most unorganized, scatty, forgetful, late, person who could imagine..... as the years have gone on and my children got to school age I look at other mum's with awe and admiration-how do they do it? How?! I seem tonworknso kuch harder than anyone I know at just keeping-thr-bloody-balls-in-the-air........not even anything outstanding...just keeping track of the basics. My head is so full all the time, I struggle with overwhelming anxiety at times and don't seem to have enough headspace left to focus on what's important. Too busy worrying or overthonking a million other things. Anyway
...you and your bujosSmile you've lured me in and I'm hoping this will be a revelation to me and the gateway to me finally, finally keeping on top of things. I'm not even gonna peek at Pinterest till I've got going because I do do I will want it pretty and arty and beautiful....but right now I'm just desperate and I just want something to help me manage my head and my thoughts and my never-ending list of tasks. If you've read all this, thank you. Don't mean to sound miserable but my inability to achieve what others seem to do so well qjust makes me feel so miserable. It affects everyhing.

Here's to hopeBrew
