I have bought the beautiful notebook.
I have fineliners
I have searched Pinterest.

I have many ideas for things I want to track etc but

I am scared to start.

I am not artistic.
It is the most expensive notebook I have ever bought and I really don't want to spoil it Blush

You’ve described just how I feel - just overwhelmed with trying to keep on top of everything . I too am in awe when I meet organised mum friends with more kids and ask them about how they do it.
I’m going to really try to make it work after the schools go back - combining with a mini cleaning schedule even. Good luck to you !

Another BuJo wanker here!
I’ve been BuJo-ing for about 2 years, though admittedly the last 6 months or so I’ve let it slip (new job, forgot to make time for it) and I’m pretty sure it’s adversely affected my MH. I appreciate this probably sounds a bit melodramatic, but the sense of control and order it gives me really does help stop me becoming overwhelmed!
ForeverBlessedBe that makes perfect sense, I used to try make myself a tiny little bit of time at the beginning of the day to check my BuJo, add anything important and just get my head around what needed to happen that day. I have an office based job and am usually in early so cup of tea + quick check usually set me up for the day.
I use a cheapy grid notebook/subject book (£5ish) from paperchase, I got this originally because I was too intimidated by all the beautiful notebooks in case I messed up....main advatage is that it’s lightweight, has a LOT of pages of nice paper, and the ringbind means you can tear a page out if you really hate it (happened a few times early on but less so now). Annoyingly though I just looked online and they might have stopped making them 🙄
I have just started maternity leave so inspired by all you lovely lot, think I’m going to try and reintroduce my BuJo to my life!

MyNameIsNotSteven · 02/01/2019 07:07

I've bought the book and. Lovely notebook. Sadly, having started to read it, I don't think I'll have time in my life for it.

SCST01 · 02/01/2019 07:30

Not sure I qualify as a bujo wanker, but I use an A5 filofax flip book for everything - diary, to do, gift buying list, specific projects, work and personal all in one book.

I throw pages away when I'm done with them so it doesn't get too full. Mostly utilitarian with some prettier pages.

You can buy different papers for it and I bought the hole punch so I print my own sometimes, usually for menu planning/slimming.

SoupDragon · 02/01/2019 07:55

I don't think I'll have time in my life for it.

So simplify the journal. It doesn't need to be complicated or time consuming.

Angelil · 02/01/2019 08:11

Isn't a bullet journal just a fancy way of saying...a list? #doesntgetit

PattiStanger · 02/01/2019 08:18

I'm no expert but, no, I don't think it's the same as a list.

For me a list would literally be things written underneath each other to be crossed off.

My bujo might have lists but will be more of a way to keep track of everything I need/want to do throughout the year.

If you're not a planner or a tracker I don't suppose you'd see the need so you wouldn't bother, no need for everyone to do the same thing.

MinorProphet · 02/01/2019 08:29

STSC01 I think I'll get o better with a filofax style notebook. The binding on a nice notebook intimidates me, I want to be able to keep bits and I want dividers not an index. What do you use and can you tell me about this hole punch?

SoupDragon · 02/01/2019 08:43

It's not just a list. It is a book of lists, diary pages, planners, maybe a journal of thoughts/wishes/whatever...

MrFMercury · 02/01/2019 09:01

When I first read about them a couple of years ago I couldn't get my head round it at all. But something popped up about them last year and I revisited the idea. I've had one for a few months now and really enjoy putting it together. I can hold my diary of appointments, brain storming, to do lists and trackers in one place. I also keep a daily food diary so that's in there too. Each month I figure out what pages I actually need, pencil in the titles and then sit and create them whenever I have time. I thought the up keep would be way too much but I just adapt it based on the time I have available.

I sometimes draw decorations, sometimes have none and often use stickers and tape. I find it a really calming thing to do and we another one with probable ADHD it's definitely helped me feel more on top of things. Ticking stuff off feels good and logging things like my mood and exercise feels useful. I try out different ways of capturing information so I don't get as bothered as I thought I would if one way doesn't work.

I'm guessing this all makes me a bujo wanker :)

Moominfan · 02/01/2019 09:05

This just seems like reinventing the wheel. Diaries, journals aren't new? What am I missing here?

FusionChefGeoff · 02/01/2019 09:39

Can we post pics of our pages? For inspiration but also to see 'real' bujos as Pinterest is a but much!

Mine are in pencil at the moment until I've decided the best layouts (and my pens arrive!)

We're also big sports fans so I've a page for fixtures then I can just put an icon in the monthly spread to indicate a match without needing tonnes of room for the details.

I'm particularly interested in other people's trackers - what and how so I can pinch your ideas!

Hmmm, I am seriously considering getting one. I've looked at it before. I am a mega lister and live my life by bullet points. I also have a few things I need to religiously track for health reasons and compare month on month. Also just about to start WW's and need to track weight and exercise.

Q - if I dive in and start off my month, how many pages maximum do you recommend to leave at the front to fill in later?

I don't think I'll take it out in public as I get stick off friends and acquaintances as it is about being organised and having lists.

StuffingSandwich · 02/01/2019 09:58

Ah you're all a bunch of bastards because I've bought one too. It's arriving today and a friend who swears by his is coming over this week to help me set mine up/give me some pointers!

Just one question - I think I'd rather use pencil crayons to colour in. Does anyone else or do you all use fine liners?

SCST01 · 02/01/2019 10:09

@MinorProphet The flipbook might be perfect for you then - I have dividers too. The holepunch is a Filofax one too, bought it all from Amazon a couple of years ago 😊

CaptainCallisto · 02/01/2019 10:19

Stuffing I tend to use colouring pencils for mine. The only issue is that it transfers sometimes when I do something on the other side of the page. Not always, and I much prefer colouring with pencils so put up with it, but it is a factor in deciding whether or not to use them...

I was one of the original BuJo wankers, thank to SoupDragon who decided that my post along the lines of "my fauxdori BuJo has two Moleskine cahiers" was an accurate example of the term Wink.

Basically I made my own version of the Midori Traveller's Notebook and put two (lovely) A6 notebooks into it, whole thing cost lest than a tenner. Still use it, although DH bought me a different version which I'm feeling obliged to use instead, even though it's not real leather, and is a bit too big.

What I love about BuJo-ing, is that if I miss a couple of days months it's not a problem, I juts start again on the next page. It really does help keep me on top of life (kind of).

CaptainCallisto · 02/01/2019 10:21

The pictures aren't very clear, but it's like a coloured ghost image of what's on the page after the rainbow, on the page before it.

chocatoo · 02/01/2019 10:21

I'm just starting! This thread is very timely for me! Reading with interest.

Rkay2 · 02/01/2019 10:36

@soloula and other seasoned bujo wankers. I started my journal. Opened the lect 1917 and the agniezio paper chase one and used my pens at the back. But nearly all except the biro you could see through.

These include pilots and uniballs 157

Any good pen suggestions?

halcyondays · 02/01/2019 10:38

Isn't it just a notebook with a fancy name?

differentnameforthis · 02/01/2019 10:43

Another Bujo wanker checking in.

Very new to this. Something I wanted to try for a while, but never got going with.

Mine isn't a diary though, I am using mine as a self care tracker. I have a 10yr old asd dd, and my self care gets lost along the way as I am either working with her, doing household stuff (although dh is great at that) or sleeping. I will use it to track my sleep and mood (constantly exhausted) too. I also track dd's moods/anxiety/self harm.

I have a "Grateful for" page too.

Knittink · 02/01/2019 10:50

Will rtft, but just spotted this and was excited to see a new Bujo thread with so many posts - it was me that started the run of Bujo wanker threads a couple of years back (under a different name).

I've bujoed for a few years now and am still loving it, although I've pared it back to a pretty minimal system now (having got a bit carried away for a while with emulating all the fancy Instagram bujoers).

My new notebook for this year is a (ludicrously expensive) Hobonichi from Japan. It's not strictly speaking a proper Bujo, as it is pre-set-up, and although I coveted it, I'm not sure it will work for me...

Right - will rtft now!

Angelil · 02/01/2019 10:51

@PattiStanger
Oh, believe me, I am organised. I still keep a paper diary for appointments etc as well as an actual diary for feelings etc (also on paper). I have also been keeping a paper diary of my pregnancy and the first weeks of my son's life (to pop in his memory box) and have even started a poetry diary this year.
Just still with @halcyondays... it seems just like a notebook with a fancy name to me. Who CBA really to mess around with fineliners etc?? A list is there to be used...and as much as I treasure the art of handwriting...and as a teacher believe handwriting should be readable!...I'm more concerned with getting thoughts and ideas down rather than messing about with its aesthetic. TBH the decoration aspect reminds me more of my diary as a teenager, which had lots of stickers, sketches, song lyrics etc in it.

Hohocabbage · 02/01/2019 10:56

It’s not a new religion, it’s a journaling style that many people finds help them stay organised and they have fun with it too. If it doesn’t appeal, move on!
