I have bought the beautiful notebook.
I have fineliners
I have searched Pinterest.

I have many ideas for things I want to track etc but

I am scared to start.

I am not artistic.
It is the most expensive notebook I have ever bought and I really don't want to spoil it Blush

Not sure if this is allowed but my dd2 Instagram bullet journal account is
b.bulletjournal

She has a chronic health condition that leaves her housebound for the majority of the week and often stuck in bed so this has been a fab release of her creative energy and kept her happy and stable

grumpypug · 01/01/2019 00:42

Wow! She's great- I'm following her 😁

AGnu · 01/01/2019 00:48

My notebook is lined. I can't deal with a dotted page - makes my eyes feel funny!

cananybodyfindmesomeonetolove · 01/01/2019 00:50

I love mine. I have ADHD and it if very helpful for me keeping everything in one place and having the freedom to create pages wherever I want to. I was overwhelmed when I started looking at lots of beautiful/artsy youtube videos, but have kept mine nice and simple which has taken away my desire for perfection!

KTyoupigeon · 01/01/2019 00:57

grumpypug thank you.

GodrestyemerrySchadenfreud · 01/01/2019 08:25

I started this last yer. Have to admit that even though I am not artistic, it looked vair' pretty, what with the colours, and stickers, and inspirational quotes and that.

Lasted about two months. Found it too time-consuming and faffy.

bridgetreilly · 01/01/2019 09:44

You don't have to do any of the prettifying stuff, the stickers, the doodling, whatever. You don't have to have an expensive notebook (though it really helps to have one with numbered pages). You don't have to do it like the youtubers and pinteresters and instagrammers. It is primarily a functional way of organising and for that it is brilliant.

I started doing it a couple of years ago and now do a heavily modified version that suits me. That's part of what's so good about it is you can change it up until it really works for you. There is no messing up of pages, because none of them are pre-printed. You just turn over and start again on the next blank page.

Here's where you need to start, with the actual system: bulletjournal.com/pages/learn

I keep losing this thread so am going to pop a 'placemark' here so I can find it again in my TIO.

I've fancied having a go for a while now but over-think & don't get anywhere.

AthenaWhite · 01/01/2019 10:01

Mine is all set up, following the original system which makes sense to me. Dd also going to give it a go. Feels like a bit more than lists, maybe a bit of mindfulness too. I've started with an index, future log, January page, January habit tracker then weekly log. I've added some lists, books, resolutions, a key etc at the back and have logged them in the index.

Crayolaaa · 01/01/2019 10:15

Mine is functional rather than pretty - dotted lines and page numbers, yes, but no doodling or inspiring quotes. It means I care less when I make a mess! I find it particularly helpful for to do lists and goal setting.

SassitudeandSparkle · 01/01/2019 10:18

I'm not arty either so mine will be functional. I may stretch to a bit of washi tape as I already have some!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/01/2019 10:37

I have just restarted knitting - gave myself beautiful undyed wool of happy sheep for Christmas - and have just created a page for my pattern and measurements - so i know where they are.

Adversecamber22 · 01/01/2019 10:46

People have kept journals like this for years, I didn’t know it was a thing to be shared, I have one.

lotusbell · 01/01/2019 11:03

Having now calmed my tits a little bit, I've realised that I will never be able to keep up with using a bujo in.the way it is intended. This is not me being defeatist, it's just I have track record for starting things and not following through or getting carried away with a new 'hobby' or fad Grin so I'm going to just use it as a day to day reminder list of things to do, life admin, want/wish lists and ideas. None of this calendar and migrating malarkey as I just don't think I'll keep it up. Still really 'need' a dot notebook though...

Starryskiesinthesky · 01/01/2019 11:23

Lotusbell I am doing the same - just a wee book with my lists in it. Some for today some more longer term but no real system, no index, no shit.

moggle · 01/01/2019 11:31

Yeah that’s what I found it useful for when I did it. Just having all my lists in one place. My most useful lists were
What clothes I had in various sizes for DD so I didn’t eg buy her a new coat when I had a secondhand one in the loft passed down from a cousin
Meals she would eat (very short list to start with, the bugger)
Which days various local play groups / toddler groups were on
Packing list for a day out / weekend away / longer trip
Sizes of various family members I might buy clothing as gifts for

Think I’m definitely going to start a book of lists again. In an A6 / pocket size this time so I can fit it in my bag. No day to day stuff apart from the odd to do list... but maybe a future log.

PattiStanger · 01/01/2019 12:04

I've made a start, I've decided to trial it with a normal notebook and I've set up pages for things I need to do monthly, some different to do sections that I'll fill in when things come up and a food shopping sections.

What sorts of habits are people tracking?

MagentaRocks · 01/01/2019 12:15

I started mine, arrived yesterday and spent some happy hours making it look nice. I have a weight loss tracker, daily habits, mood tracker and positivity thing. It all looks amazing. Some of the habits I want to track are gym, 10,000 steps and 10 floors. Already done the floors today and love marking what I have done. It will keep me focused to have a visual reminder of what I have done. It made me go for a walk when I got up.

codswallopandbalderdash · 01/01/2019 12:29

I started last year. mine is not beautiful but it is practical. I love it. It is the system that works for me

codswallopandbalderdash · 01/01/2019 12:30

I have a school holiday chart set up in mine for the year with details of who is covering what and what gaps need to be filled.
Also have a weekly timetable of regular family activities
My shopping lists (long term) are v useful

NecklessMumster · 01/01/2019 13:01

Reading this thread has really cheered me up for some reason! I have random small notebooks with to do lists, a work diary, a family wall organiser, a chalkboard in the kitchen but I now have dreams of being properly organised! I used a filofax for years in a similar way, not sure why I stopped

Skyejuly · 01/01/2019 13:07

I'm so tempted...but not sure I will keep it up...choices.

SoupDragon · 01/01/2019 13:21

I've realised that I will never be able to keep up with using a bujo in.the way it is intended.

IMO, the beauty of it is that you can make it what you want. If you start simple you can add stuff if you think it will be useful rather than a pain.

SoupDragon · 01/01/2019 13:23

I think I might introduce DD to it. She is 12 and worries about organisation stuff and also says she has random thoughts that stop her sleeping - I wonder if writing them down will help get them out of her head (they're nothing bad, just musings I think!)

MeetOnTheSIedge · 01/01/2019 13:26

I had a few false starts with my first one. Three years later and I constantly chop and change how I use it, but that is what I like, there are no real rules, if it doesn't work change it.
