Looking for some inspiration...

Is there something that is relatively inexpensive (£100 max) that has had an good impact on your quality of life?

I have vouchers that need used.

Finally caved and bought myself a fleecy electric blanket.

It's been a struggle getting out of my bed for the past two days... Xmas Grin

Another vote for the One Cup btw! I bought one years ago and don't regret it. Still have a kettle in the cupboard incase I need it but I rarely do!

Toast tongs with a magnet at the hinge end.

Cost about £2

Brilliant - never lose your crumpet again.

certainlymerry · 07/01/2019 19:17

I would like those toast tongs. Where id you buy them Lamb?

BitOfFun · 08/01/2019 22:55

I bought one of those glass in-pan egg timers as a result of this thread, and OMG, IT'S AMAZING Grin

Perfect runny eggs with soldiers- it's changed my life!

DukeOfEarlGrey · 09/01/2019 17:22

Not all of these are 2018 purchases but they are all total life enhancers that I feel the need to share:

Agree with lots of pps on electric blankets! My home is old and badly insulated - life has improved immensely since getting a heated under blanket for the bed and furry heated throw for the sofa.

Ditto a heated airer + cover - things actually dry in winter now!

Ugg boots as slippers. I resisted forking our for years but eventually found some on sale and every evening is nicer as a result.

Yy to motion activated nightlights.

TheLastNigel · 09/01/2019 19:10

Someone gave me one of those plastic egg things for Christmas and I scoffed at it a bit (not to their face obvs). Off the back of this thread I think I may have made an error and will try it out tomorrow!

lotusbell · 09/01/2019 21:12

Can confirm the egg boiling timer thing is very good!

cookiesaurus · 11/01/2019 17:43

This is a great thread! 👍🏻

So far I've bought

  • the Victorinox knives - they are absolutely brilliant and I might upgrade my entire kitchen knife collection!
  • the Lakeland Tao adapta - again for a tenner it's pretty good!
  • sheepskin/shearling insoles - I've yet to try these out! I do have Ugg slippers which are amazing (although v expensive for slippers)

Costco have the heated throw on offer https://www.costco.co.uk/Furniture-Home/Home-Furnishings/Cushions-Throws/Dreamland-Relaxwell-Deluxe-Faux-Fur-Heated-Throw/p/265513?utmcampaign=FY19P5W3b&utmmmedium=Email&utmsource=Promo&utmmcontent=Feat-2&utm_term=Dreamland

Manna stainless steel bottles (£10 in tk maxx) keep drink cold for hours. I keep one by the bed so I can have fresh water if I wake up hungover dehydrated. Much nicer than room temperature imo.

thecatsthecats · 15/01/2019 08:24

Many framed prints in my house.
An electric cleaning brush (like a giant electric toothbrush).
Even if you don't want an Alexa listening in, a voice activated gadget/clock is soooooo handy for timers and questions when cooking with messy hands in the kitchen (and for asking the time in the bedroom without opening your eyes).

AwkwardAsAllGetout · 15/01/2019 08:29

Silicone ear plugs from Boots have improved my sleep tenfold. Dh snores like a freight train and I can no longer hear a thing. Even when he’s being unusually quiet, the lack of background noise means I get a much deeper sleep every night. I tried their wax ear plugs a while ago and they were useless.

certainlymerry · 17/01/2019 16:29

For those with a heated airer are they really worth it?

icannotremember · 17/01/2019 16:33

Menstrual cup.
A foldaway pouch shopping bag (an Aldi "I love Kevin the Carrot" one too, which I had before it was cool).
And this is over £100 and will only be useful to people with particular problems, but a Kegel8 pelvic floor toner. I've been using mine for less than a week and have noticed a tiny difference already!

WhenLifeGivesYouLemonsx · 05/02/2019 16:10

@certainlymerry I don't think it is. I gave mine away and just have a standard airer now.

cjt110 · 05/02/2019 16:26

99p pair of plastic tongs for cooking with. No more scratched pans when moving meat around with a fork, or burnt fingers when I decide to just grab said meat from pan to plate up.

bubblegumbottles · 07/02/2019 21:32

@certainlymerry I couldn't be without mine now! Love it

GetSchwifty · 07/02/2019 21:38

We have the Jospeh Jospeh rice cooker and it’s great. I never liked cooking rice so hardly ever bothered, this makes it so easy and the rice always come out perfect.
