Looking for some inspiration...

Is there something that is relatively inexpensive (£100 max) that has had an good impact on your quality of life?

I have vouchers that need used.

My recent purchases that have improved my life:

Kindle - finally getting the time to read again and I love having new books at my fingertips whenever I want, also that I don't have to find space for hundreds of books in my house. Love it.

Dyson v8- my first hand-held vacuum. I absolutely love it, my house is spotless! So handy to just pop off the wall and run it over the carpet.

Mattress topper - this transforms my bed! I don't want to get out of it. Spent €100 and got a really good one.

ForalltheSaints · 30/12/2018 11:21

A good pillow.

I would love to find a really good cappuccino maker. Any recommendations?

@Moononthehill28, I love my DeLonghi Dedica: it's super narrow (so doesn't take up a lot of space in my tiny kitchen) and it's seriously discounted on Amazon right now.

@certainlymerry

Recommendations for steamers which clean surfaces bathrooms, upholstery and carpets please?

www.amazon.co.uk/K%C3%A4rcher-1-516-330-0-Karcher-SC-EasyFix/dp/B077ZCT9WW/ref=dp_ob_title_ce?tag=mumsnetforum-21

I'm really happy with it.

certainlymerry · 30/12/2018 12:30

Thank you so much Distance! I don't think the coffee maker uses pods? Just wanted to check as I want one that doesn't. Is it fiddly to clean and difficult to use? Looks great, and so does the steamer!

Bitchinabonnet · 30/12/2018 12:34

Place marking . Love this thread .

DistanceCall · 30/12/2018 12:35

@certainlymerry, you can use it with pods (the non-aluminium ones) but also without - it comes with 3 different filters, two for ground coffee (1 cup or 2 cups) and one for a pod.

I'm a total butterfingers, and have found it extremely easy to use and clean (you just take out the filter and wash it under the tap). And the steamer is fabulous for lattes and capuccinos (or even for hot water).

-Lakeland-Tap Adapta Spray Adjuster £10 (turns any normal tap into one you can swivel and change from gush to spray)

Just what I need thanks, just ordered.

NannyKasey · 30/12/2018 13:22

Sketchers boots and trainers. Bought a pair of go walk trainers in June, wore them (almost) every single day until November when I bought a pair of black leather go walk boots. Trainers will be back when the weather gets better. Boots were £69, trainers £47. The two most expensive pairs of footwear that I have ever bought, but worth every penny as I walk a lot.

AlanThePig · 30/12/2018 13:46

The highest thread count bedding This. Along with a hotel style duvet. You sound half your life in bed so why scrimp on bedding?

Spider Spray. Squirt it, it deters spiders. Not seen one in the house for months so assume working.

Pressure King Pro. For all the reasons above.

Philips Hue Colour Bulbs. I have a white lounge and add colour with light dependent on mood. Also links up to my philips TV so a movie is completely immersive.

Not under £100 but around £120, my Insinkerator waste disposal. Not sure how I lived without it. Controversial things in the UK I realise, but no more stinky bins!

SayNoToCarrots · 30/12/2018 14:26

@notsurewhatshappening

I actually got it for free from the IT department - I've just Googled and it cost £50! There are cheaper available though.

clicker

Not sure about active inspire tho

Marks and Sparks pants

ChristmasFan2018 · 30/12/2018 16:07

Fevertree tonic improves all gins!

MasonJar · 30/12/2018 17:00

certainlymerry - better to get the DeLonghi Dedica from John Lewis as you get a 2 yr guarantee rather than the usual 1yr you'd get if bought from Amazon.
Same price as Amazon so its strange that JL doesn't mention anything about a massive discount.

certainlymerry · 30/12/2018 17:15

It seems to be £180 from JL?

certainlymerry · 30/12/2018 17:18

The red one is £180 but the silver one is £119, you are right. It is strange that they don't mention a discount though.

JessieMcJessie · 30/12/2018 17:38

A wide-blades spreader knife. We eat a lot of toast and sandwiches in this house and I can’t believe I spent 30 years spreading butter with a table knife! Also better than a normal knife for scraping useable butter from a hard chilled block.

gaggiagirl · 30/12/2018 17:46

Ooh Jessie that looks really useful!

mistressploppy · 30/12/2018 19:04

Loving this thread and haven't read all of it yet but place marking and also adding - digital shower radio. Such a cheery way to start the day - we have this rechargeable one from John Lewis - £50 and it's 2yrs old already, so should last

WhatFreshHellisCis · 30/12/2018 19:24

@secondhanddreamsdealer can you post a link for the stick on led lights please?!

littlewhitething · 30/12/2018 19:49

Instant pot (PKP)
Rocketbook
Vacuum Sealer for veg bags that I open clumsily, saves peas all over the floor! Also for everything else

TaleOfTheContinents · 30/12/2018 20:14

Potato ricer! Creamy, lump-free mashed potatoes in less than a minute. I don't even bother to peel my potatoes first - just boil them with skins on, pop them in the ricer, and it removes the skins as it squishes the potato through.

I have the Oxo Good Grips one.

beela · 30/12/2018 20:30

I think all of mine have already been mentioned, but:

Kindle

Satnav (total game changer for me when I got one ten years ago! Tho everyone has maps on their phones now)

Base layers / vests - no more moaning about being cold

Stump teapot for loose leaf tea

Contigo travel mug. I first got one a few years ago for cold trips to the park with toddlers, before it was 'normal' to wander around with a travel mug. Such a trend setter.

I'm off to investigate instant pots and heated throws now...

cricketmum84 · 30/12/2018 20:38

@guineapig1 I've just ordered myself a Brit's water jug and a Brit's water bottle with my Christmas spends from MIL.

I've been complaining that our tap water had a strong chlorine taste for months now and as a result am drinking nowhere near enough water. Hoping this boosts us all a bit!

cricketmum84 · 30/12/2018 20:38

*Brita obviously not Brit's!!!
