How soon can I (reasonably) take down my Christmas decorations?

Just that really...

I have a 2yo DD who has loved Christmas, and I normally do too, but it's been a shit one for me this year. Husband moved out on 23rd so not been the best time and I've just had enough of my house being a tip and hardly any space to move due to all of the bits and bobs that come with Christmas.

How long do I have to leave them up before I can start straightening out my house and making it feel like a home for just DD and I? I don't want to take it all away from her too soon (as in the tree and sparkles etc) but I want my house back!

I'm planning to take my tree down tomorrow. We live in small flat and I don't like the clutter.

twoheaped · 25/12/2018 22:43

Ours come down tomorrow!

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 25/12/2018 22:44

Whenever you want after today. I know a few people who will take it down tomorrow. I usually take it down before New Years but DP is used to it staying up until early January so we'll compromise.

You can do as you please.

Traditionally it's 5th January.

Christmas gets packed away on boxing day, I don't generally live in an extremely tidy house but the sooner I can get big items out the way the better.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 25/12/2018 22:48

Coming down tomorrow.

I like to start the year all fresh and clean. Tree got messed up digging presents out from under it and I'm bored shitless of plucking cats out of the tree like over-ripe
apples.

I am done.

dementedpixie · 25/12/2018 22:48

Normally stays up until around new years eve. I like them down before January

Redskyandrainbows67 · 25/12/2018 22:53

It’s very bad luck to take it down before the 12 nights of Christmas are up. Think that’s the 5-6 jan

tryinganewname · 25/12/2018 22:54

Mine are coming down in the morning.. we're going to the caravan until Saturday and I'll be damned if I have to come home to them up. Usually, I take them down on the 27th.

GreenMeerkat · 25/12/2018 22:55

2nd Jan for me every year but you can take them down whenever you want!

At 2 I don't think your DD will notice, and will be happy enough with her Christmas gifts

cowfacemonkey · 25/12/2018 22:57

Day after Boxing Day for us, although I’ve just taken down all the cards.

What a load of rubbish. I've never left mine up as late as that. Anyway, is it not supposed to be bad luck to leave them up after that date rather than to take them down before it

walkalongsmiling · 25/12/2018 22:58

Mine come down before new year depending on shifts at work. My kids are 8 and 5 and are always happy to get the house back to normal so they can play with their new toys without all the clutter. Whenever is best for you.

cowfacemonkey · 25/12/2018 22:58

The thought of having the up til January makes me shudder!!

Mudmonster · 25/12/2018 22:59

I always take ours down on New Year’s Eve. I like to start the year with the house nice and tidy.

CatnissEverdene · 25/12/2018 23:00

My DDs birthday is NYE so we always take them down on the 30th so it feels like her birthday and not Christmas. Always have done since she was little.

owlonabike · 25/12/2018 23:03

Given that her daddy’s left, would it be best for your daughter if there wasn’t more change at the moment? Hard for you though. All the best to you both.

3boysandabump · 25/12/2018 23:04

Ours come down 28th because ds3 has a birthday on 29th

BackforGood · 25/12/2018 23:18

Totally up to you.
Ours comes down 12th night, or the day before everyone goes back to school, whichever is sooner, but then, ours hasn't been up for weeks and weeks like some people.

Jb291 · 25/12/2018 23:37

Probably tomorrow evening when the last houseguest has left and I can restore the house to normality and order. All tidy and clean for new year.

confusedandemployed · 25/12/2018 23:44

Mine will be down tomorrow. Something so maudlin about a tree after Christmas.

anniehm · 25/12/2018 23:46

6th jan for us. What's the point of putting them up if you take them down before Christmas is finished

LoniceraJaponica · 25/12/2018 23:46

I tend to take ours down on New Year's Day, but we don't put ours up until the weekend before Christmas.
Those of you who take yours down on Boxing Day - when did you put them up?

Ivegotthree · 25/12/2018 23:54

We always go away for Xmas and I take mine down the minute we get back.

Then I buy some daffodils, light a candle and start looking forward to Spring!
