How soon can I (reasonably) take down my Christmas decorations?

Just that really...

I have a 2yo DD who has loved Christmas, and I normally do too, but it's been a shit one for me this year. Husband moved out on 23rd so not been the best time and I've just had enough of my house being a tip and hardly any space to move due to all of the bits and bobs that come with Christmas.

How long do I have to leave them up before I can start straightening out my house and making it feel like a home for just DD and I? I don't want to take it all away from her too soon (as in the tree and sparkles etc) but I want my house back!

@Miljah I wish! I made my DH buy me a nice new big tree from a garden centre! Lets just say it looked a lot smaller in the big garden centre than what is does in my living room 😂

Sparklingbrook · 27/12/2018 20:15

Even when we take our tree down we can still 'enjoy' Christmas courtesy of some of the neighbour's migraine inducing flashing outdoor lights.

Each to their own sparkling and yer aunt.
For me they are decorations FOR Christmas which it still is (for me!)

Sparklingbrook · 27/12/2018 20:28

I noticed at the shops today a lot had removed Christmas trees etc already.

Of course they have, who would buy an xmas tree today?!

Sparklingbrook · 27/12/2018 20:35

No I meant their Christmas trees and decorations not the ones they sell.Grin

Although Tesco had some Half Price trees that looked very good if anyone needs one to put up in 11 month's time!

I’ve taken some down tonight, will do the rest tomorrow. Can’t wait to get back to normal. No decorations should be left up after 6th Jan

ConstantCraving · 27/12/2018 21:37

Why the rush back to normal? It's only the 3rd day of Christmas today! Mine'll be up til 12th night (but then they weren't up in the first week of December).

Reaa · 27/12/2018 21:44

Mine went up 15th Dec and came down today.

Starlight456 · 27/12/2018 21:45

I enjoy the run up to Christmas. I am happy to have my lounge back

Sparklingbrook · 27/12/2018 21:46

The lights around the hearth have fallen down of their own accord. they know it's time. Grin

Parker231 · 27/12/2018 22:07

Constant - not all of us follow the same timetable. Our decorations go up the weekend before Christmas and come down in time for New Year. Christmas is over, we’re back at work and getting ready for the New Year party.

Proseccoagain · 27/12/2018 22:13

Usually about the first weekend of January. Love the decorations!

Flusteredwintertime · 27/12/2018 22:19

Mine came down this afternoon after the DSC went home. Was sick of the mess and taking tree and decs down meant DS toys could go back in that corner where they belong - so a tiny little bit less mess on the floor! If I had a bigger front room I'd have probably kept it all up til next week

ConstantCraving · 28/12/2018 14:44

Christmas isn't over though Xmas Smile and helpfully 12th night is on a weekend this year so the decs don't even need to come down on a work day. But each to their own.

YerAuntFanny · 28/12/2018 15:04

Constant, with all due respect it's not for you to say whether other people are "right" or "wrong" about when Christmas is over for them. For us Christmas is really just a day with some build up through December as we are not traditionalists so 12 days means nothing here.

As someone else pointed out different families have different schedules, lots of people (me included) work for organisations that are open 365 days a year 24 hours a day so just because a day falls on the weekend doesn't mean it's not a work day!

ConstantCraving · 28/12/2018 15:23

I worked through xmas too. As above, each to their own - just pointing out that the festive season doesn't end quite yet (unless you want it too). Nor did it ever start on 1st December.

MiddlingMum · 28/12/2018 16:05

I was out doing something entirely different today and realised that I've moved on from Christmas now. So instead of waiting until NYD as we sometimes do, all decorations are coming down tomorrow.

Squatternutbosh123 · 28/12/2018 16:12

Just finished taking mine down, it looks so bare!
