DD just boiled milk in the kettle

Can you guess what my kitchen looks like ffs

She called up and asked if she could make hot chocolate, I said yes, she decided she couldn't wait for the milk to heat on the hob and filled the kettle instead.

I now need a new kettle on christmas eve and I was determined to stay away from the shops today

How old is she?

RagingWhoreBag · 24/12/2018 10:32

Oh no!! Can’t it be washed out?

ThreeFish · 24/12/2018 10:34

Rinse out the milk. Surely you don’t need a new kettle?

Fuckyousanta · 24/12/2018 10:35

She's 14 ffs! Should know better.

Milk is burnt onto the element and the kettle won't turn on so I think it's beyond fixing. I have a camping kettle but it takes ages to boil

Sounds like she's too young and immature to be given the go ahead to make it in the first place tbh

Pinnacular · 24/12/2018 10:36

Pop a dishwasher tablet or some clothes washing stuff (ideally bio) in it with warm water and leave to soak. Then rinse very well and boil a few times and rinse before you drink from it.

snitzelvoncrumb · 24/12/2018 10:36

Send her into the shop with her pocket money.

Fuckyousanta · 24/12/2018 10:37

She left the lid on and it didn't turn off when it reached boiling point, kitchen covered in milk when the lid blew off.

Lucky she wasn't in the kitchen at the time really, needing a new kettle is preferable to the other outcome of her being covered in scolding milk

HidingFromDD · 24/12/2018 10:37

i'd be sending DD out to get a new one, and with a couple of specific ones so she doesn't come back with a crap one, and her own money too!

Pinnacular · 24/12/2018 10:37

Ah, might not help if it won't turn on. Oh dear. A funny anecdote for the future though.

Sexnotgender · 24/12/2018 10:39

At 14 that’s ridiculous! I thought you were going to say she was about 8/9!

I hope she’s paying at least half of the cost of a new one.

Fuckyousanta · 24/12/2018 10:39

Too young and immature.....thats how people learn littlestlight. You never burnt a pizza in the oven or threw some darks in with your lights when you were learning how to do stuff?

OP posts:
PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 24/12/2018 10:40

I wouldn’t be leaving her home alone if she thought milk could go in a kettle tbh.

EvaHarknessRose · 24/12/2018 10:41

A French exchange student did this to our kettle when I was a child Grin.

tobeornottobe1 · 24/12/2018 10:41

She's 14!! Ild definitely drag her to the shops and make her get a new one, could have been interesting if it actually did work tho Grin hope she's cleaning up the kitchen x

FixTheBone · 24/12/2018 10:43

Amazon prime now. Have one by lunchtime.

Newsername · 24/12/2018 10:43

😱 my 7 year old made hot chocolate this morning in the microwave. I can’t believe a 14 year old would do this! Not sure how I’d deal with my child if they did this.

Whereisthecoffee · 24/12/2018 10:43

Teenagers make stupid mistakes sometimes thankfully she wasn’t hurt . The shock was probably enough punishment

Springmachine · 24/12/2018 10:44

Are you in an amazon prime now area? They will deliver same day within 2 hours

m0therofdragons · 24/12/2018 10:46

My dad put my electric kettle on the gas hob because it looked like a hob one (yes it was that style but my dm pointed out it was the same as their electric kettle. Exactly the same one Confused) maybe my dad was too immature too?!

It's a lesson learned. We all do silly things sometimes and this is gold for mocking her for years to come!

myomy · 24/12/2018 10:47

It's crap now but you will be laughing at this every Christmas to come. Priceless.
Everyone does daft things at times!

firstbrightday · 24/12/2018 10:47

People are being mean. Yes some of your 7 year olds can make hot chocolate, but that's because they've been taught how.

I bet OP's DD has been taught some things that your children haven't!

chipsnmayo · 24/12/2018 10:48

Oh omg OP, to be fair she would not be the first teenager to make a daft mistake in the kitchen, although that was pretty dumb, I definitely be getting her to pay.

Good story for her 21st Grin

StepMug · 24/12/2018 10:48

My 25 year old (ex) Boyfriend very almost did that once. He checked with me at the very last minute before he turned it on!

Springmachine · 24/12/2018 10:49

I don't think at 14 I would have realised that another liquid I wanted to heat up couldn't go in a kettle that seemingly is made for heating hot liquids.

Obviously I know that now
