Asda have fucked up my Christmas food shopping: a rant.

EwItsAHooman · 23/12/2018 14:10

Need to rent here so that I don't end up losing my temper with some undeserving person on the customer services helpline.

Booked my online food shop several weeks ago to be delivered tonight. Have gotten an email from Asda now detailing everything that has either been substituted or is not available. Out of 100 items, 28 have been substituted and 5 are unavailable.

Fucks sake.

And the substitutions.... What in the actual fuck!?

40 cocktail sausages, for making pigs in blankets, have been substituted for 12 cocktail sausages. How far do they think 12 will go!?

Frozen party food. A box of mini pizzas has been substituted for one pizza. Selection of Indian snacks has been substituted for spring rolls. Duck rolls have been substituted for spring rolls too. We'll be drowning in spring bloody rolls.

Sausage rolls have been substituted for a pack of Richmond sausages.

A pack of mixed "festive" cheeses has been substituted for a single block of Wensleydale.

Pickled gherkins are now pickled cucumbers.

Extra special fancy flavoured stuffing is now normal Paxo.

Turkey gravy has become chicken gravy granules.

Pretzel stars are now tortilla rolls.

Mint vienetta has become lemon ice cream.

These are just the ones I can remember without going back over the email.

And the kicker, the Birds Eye dippers have been substituted for Asda chicken nuggets. The dippers are for DS because he only eats fucking dippers (ASD) and only Birds Eye fucking dippers.

Unavailable items include cranberry sauce, goose fat, chicken skewers, and a few other things.

So 33% of the shopping is wrong and/or missing.

Customer services have been next to useless and I'm waiting on a manager calling me back (which is why I need to unload so that I can get all my fucks out now and then discuss it calmly when he/she does). Said to give any unwanted items to the driver and they'll refund them, which is all well and good but why have they fucked it up so badly in the first place? When it was ordered weeks ago, why wasn't the stock available? I expected one or two missing or substituted bits but thirty-fucking-three!?

So now I need to get the DC sorted, including one with ASD who hates the supermarket and is going to screech at top volume all the way there and all the way around (enjoy that, fellow shoppers!), will probably the violent somewhere between the checkout and the carpark so I can have a few festive thumps, and might even run off depending on exactly how busy it is. Which is why I shopped online in the first place.

And I can't even pour myself a gin and calm down because I've got to go to the fucking supermarket.

Sorry.

Buy the meat weeks/months ahead or pre order from a butcher. Stock up alcohol, treats and cupboard items a couple of weeks before just add to your normal weekly shop and buy the fresh stuff in the last few days. You could avoid the supermarket all together last minute and go to an actual greengrocers because all you need is fresh.

I stopped ordering for Xmas after a few bad experiences. TBF Ocado was always fine, but I had a couple of Waitrose orders which were terrible. I think as pp's have said, as they come from a shop, you have very little flexibility. The insanity of ours was that all of the missing items from our order, were then available from another even closer Waitrose store. Weirdly our delivery comes from a more distant and smaller store. So now, I get an Ocado a week before for all non-perishables, and will go to the nearer Waitrose for veggies and last minute bits and pieces tomorrow. They never run out of anything, and always quite a festive atmosphere with everyone collecting their turkeys :-)

Vicky Love it, although I’m younger than 50.

Harrods didn’t deliver Christmas

This is why I stopped using Asda years ago, ridiculous substitutions

OlderThanAverageforMN · 23/12/2018 15:15

Also DH went to Coop this morning for bread and milk and said it was quiet and fully stocked.

Luckingfovely · 23/12/2018 15:16

Every year social media is full of this same story.

It must be so frustrating for you op, but I doubt very much that Asda will do anything to help you, as you are just one of a very, very large number with exactly the same complaint.

I hope next year people stop relying on Asda for their Christmas shop!

EwItsAHooman · 23/12/2018 15:16

Tom and Barbara Good next door will invite you in to join them for Xmas...

I wanted to be Margot when I was 7yo, used to wear my long dressing gown and make my mum tie a silky scarf around my head. I'm nowhere near 50 Grin

Ffs Asda! You ordered weeks ago so your food should be put aside!! I also rely on online shopping as I have a severely disabled 20 year old DS. Asda fuck our order up every week.

Asda you arsehole!!!!

HerestoyouMrsRobinson · 23/12/2018 15:20

My Asda doesn't have pretzel Stars ever Hmm

JennyHolzersGhost · 23/12/2018 15:20

Just had my email from Waitrose - only one item missing, a loaf of bread. Well I can live without that.

Serialweightwatcher · 23/12/2018 15:20

I don't blame you being pissed off ... the reason people (me included) do online shopping is either because we can't face shops (me), or have young children and it's a nightmare etc etc, but as you say when it's been on order for weeks and no doubt others' have too, there is no way you should expect for that massive amount to not be in stock.

One year instead of pigs in blankets (which I have since done myself), Tesco sent me scotch eggs!! This year they had no crackers, the pudding was taken off (but thankfully I spotted it yesterday and added a different one on), some stuff for my cousin's party in a few days will be out of date 2 days before etc etc ... you do right to be annoyed

Starlight456 · 23/12/2018 15:20

I find Asda the worst for substitutes. I once had a Vindaloo substituted for a Korma

EwItsAHooman · 23/12/2018 15:23

Right.

Action time.

I am a semi-functioning adult so it's adulting time.

I have written a list.

DC are saddled up and suitably sullen, feets located, sugar-based bribes promised.

I'm going to go to the co-op down the road, the Londis in the next village, and there's a Nisa not too far away either, I think. Hopefully they'll be quieter than the big supermarket and I can get some of the stuff off my list.

Then tomorrow, DH will be home and can stay with the DC while I go to the supermarket if there's still anything on the list left to get. He'll be walking in as I'm walking out but if I go early then it'll hopefully be quieter.

Fuuuuuuuuck sake. I had plans to wear pyjamas and watch Christmas movies.

Plus side, have learned a lesson about using Asda so I know to go elsewhere next time. Christmas 2019 is in the bag.

They're amazing. Salted caramel flavour.

Not that I have any...

FortyFacedFuckers · 23/12/2018 15:25

I am awaiting my delivery from Asda but from my email I can see out of 27 items I have 15 subs & one unavailable (carrots)

DGRossetti · 23/12/2018 15:26

Didn't Sainsburys buy ASDA recently ?

Colour me surprised ....

EwItsAHooman · 23/12/2018 15:26

And I've gotten into my abandoned Twitter account and DM'd them a link to the thread

Had a similar expereanced with Asda a few years ago, had a worse expereanced with Waitrose. This year I chose Tesco, had a few substitutions but only one major item missing. Tesco would not substitute with something smaller so they would of substituted the sausages for 2 packs instead of one. I had to go to a local farm shop to buy pudding today as the roulade I wanted was out of stock.

I think it’s always best to go and get the shopping yourself then you know what your getting, online is always a bit risky.

SoleBizzz · 23/12/2018 15:26

That's the spirit Ewits

Grin Starlight

Sainsbury's gave me a bottle of Pimms as substitute for a loaf of crusty bread Confused I had the Pimms for years!!

Bringbackthestrioes · 23/12/2018 15:27

What do you expect the manager to do? If it isn’t in stock for the home shoppers to pick he isn’t going to be able to magic your order.

Ffs Asda! You ordered weeks ago so your food should be put aside!!
That’s not how it works, they don’t have a separate warehouse/fridge& freezer for home shopping order items to be picked from. They don’t look ahead and order your items in specially for your shopping.
The items are picked from the shop floor the day of your order not from a separate supply. The pickers start at 4/5am to start picking that days orders so early slots have their items picked first. If you aren’t having a delivery until 7/8 pm then your food will be being picked at lunch time when, in the festive season, there won’t be very much left available as shoppers will have been clearing shelves from 7am.

Buttercupsandaisies · 23/12/2018 15:28

Go to m&s. Every year I go xmAs eve and there's always a massive queue of people collecting their pre ordered food- dispite the fact the shelves are full and you can just walk in and get everything! I did my full shop last year whilst people still stood in line!

RB68 · 23/12/2018 15:29

I had a few issues with my del last night - so 40 cocktail sausages instead of pigs in blankets!! Surely they had sausages and bacon! peelers for satsumas which to be fair I expected. but no where near the volume you had

I popped into sains this am and got most of it bar satsumas. Will try again on Christmas eve but not too fussed if they don't get here.

Hope you at least find the chicken dippers. Can you do an early shop tomorrow and leave kids home with someone?

Flower777 · 23/12/2018 15:30

I won’t be popular for saying this but I feel you are over reacting.

I see lots of food listed in your OP. Why don’t you just embrace it and realise how lucky you are. No one needs pretzel stars for Christmas.

You don’t have to now go to 3 extra shops. Just work with what you have and enjoy Christmas!

missyB1 · 23/12/2018 15:35

Really hope you get everything you need OP, I would be so pissed off! But I must say this is why I never risk doing the groceries for Christmas online. I braved ASDA and Waitrose this morning and managed to get it all. Hard work but at least I got sorted.

Good Luck!

fraggle84 · 23/12/2018 15:36

Chicken dippers are on the coop frozen £5 deal

It's something like the Birdseye dippers, pizza, garlic bread, wedges, & a vienetta
