Please help me (so hungover)

Work Christmas lunch yesterday. Ended up a highly boozy affair. Got home about 1am. Threw up (tidily). Threw up again this morning and now I can’t get out of bed. Every time I sit or stand I want to be sick. My head is splitting.

I have two under-fours. This is my first night out in a long long time. DH took them out for Christmassy things this morning and I am gutted that I couldn’t be there. I just couldn’t. They are heading back now and I need to get up and help.

Please help. Someone out there must have a hangover cure.

@ihatehoney I'm sure you are the life and soul. Smile
When you're not telling mothers off for drinking.
Just why?

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 22/12/2018 17:26

Should’ve said perfect hypothetical parents-to-be, really!

MiaowMix · 22/12/2018 17:26

@HolgerLowCarbingLoser yeah you're right. 🎄✌🏼
I never pretended to be a perfect parent pre children though and certainly not post!

thighofrelief · 22/12/2018 17:29

Weak tea with no milk and sugar plus a hot bath to sweat it out. Lemon squash does the trick too.

I gave up drinking 7 years ago after literally the worst hangover ever to disgrace this world. 12 hours of solidly knocking back red wine, I was so ill I couldn't move the next day and had to sip water. The smell of alcohol still makes me boak.

ihatehoney · 22/12/2018 17:29

@MiaowMix would you say the same to a 21 year old just qualified social worker? Why do older people think younger women/men are useless and know nothing. Childcare isn't rocket science and we're all allowed opinions on how we'd parent/like to parent.

(For the record I'm not a social worker- nor am I studying to become one).

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 22/12/2018 17:31

I reckon honey doesn't host because she's got no-one to actually host for.
The sanctimonious attitude and contempt towards others can't win you many friends.

Parent goes out and enjoys herself once in a blue moon - someone call childline!!

I'm wondering why a 'too busy to go out' 20 year old without kids is on a parenting site. Surely it can't be just to berate seasoned parents?
Since she knows everything and has planned exactly how she will parent her hypothetical children, she doesn't even need to be here for advice.
Very odd.

MiaowMix · 22/12/2018 17:39

@ihatehoney I think young people are fantastic. I even hang out with some of them! But they don't tend to preach.
What even is your motivation for coming onto a parenting site to tell mothers off?
It's just the height of sanctimony. And arrogance.
Why so judgemental?
@WhoTookTheChristmasCookie actually everything you said.

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 22/12/2018 17:45

Usually it’s because they try to lecture about things they haven’t a hope of understanding, and their black and white, Uber-idealistic perspective gets a bit tedious, and they are a little too earnest and a little too convinced of their own rightness. It take a rough ride in the real world to knock the edge off a little and then they tend to relax a bit with the self-rigteousness.

As it happens, I was a mother of two at 21, and a very responsible one at that! And my daughter, who has just graduated with a very good degree in a very complex subject, is currently adulting even better than I do, in some ways. So I’m not at all of the opinion that young people can’t be wise and responsible and know what they're talking about. But it helps if they talk about something they actually have direct experience of.

Whatsforu · 22/12/2018 17:45

You are all on the defensive with ihatehoney. Quite interesting I recently read that younger generations are less likely to get bladdered more common in the middle ages and above now. Take what you want from that. I've been there with horrible hangovers, but no longer drink. It's amazing the amount of people that say you are a boring sod for not drinking!!!

They're probably all binge drinkers themselves, that's why! Trying to justify 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 I'll take being a 'boring sod' for rarely drinking and embarrassing myself over having hideous hangovers any day!

Clearly they're all positive I'll disregard all my morals and start drinking irresponsibly when I'm a mother. Not gonna happen!🤗

@WhoTookTheChristmasCookie To answer your question, I'm mainly on here for the dog section. I have a spaniel puppy. Also some of the threads are funny! (Snapped and farted anyone?)

Bit strange to judge someone's friend count on a website🧐

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 22/12/2018 17:59

small glass of milk to replace the calcium, kiwi and banana (could blitz with the milk for a smoothie) follow with egg on toast and then lots of water during the day.
Stock up on ASDA stomach and headache relief sachets and some rehydration sachets in case there is a next time Smile also milk thistle effervescent tablets from holland and barrett will help detox the liver. ginger beer or ginger tea will also help settle the stomach. avoid acidic stuff like orange juice, this too will pass Grin

CherubRocking · 22/12/2018 18:01

Diaoralyte

framboisier · 22/12/2018 18:17

There's an article in the Times today on this very subject!

The disappointing answer is that you basically just have to wait it out till the toxins are out of your system...but they don't really know why you can feel quite so horrific after a night on the sherbet. Darker drinks are the worst.

My personal cure is sleep, ibuprofen, Ribena and carbs.

Just know that tomorrow you will be back to normal. Threatening never to do it again...till the next time Xmas Wink

BigFarmer · 22/12/2018 18:23

I don't drink anymore, hangovers felt worse as I aged. Full fat coke, painkillers and a maccy ds always sorted me out back in the day though.

I bet @ihatehoney's mum drinks, fuck knows I would.

Almostfifty · 22/12/2018 19:10

In the olden days when I got hangovers (too bloody boring to get that drunk these days, just can't cope with the head) Alkaseltzer worked wonders.

Pinkyponkcustard · 22/12/2018 19:20

How are you feeling op? Gotta nearly be bedtime now, you made it through! High fives all round!

Butterflysprinkles · 22/12/2018 19:27

Hope your feeling better OP!

I had a bad hangover the other week! I hope you had a good night!

Flooffloof · 22/12/2018 19:39

I'm sure you're all a lovely lot to the teen mothers you meet

I don't meet many as it's not my social circle. But when I do I can empathise cos I was only 21 when I had my first. I too thought I would:-
Never get drunk or hungover when I needed to care for a child.
Never give them anything but healthy food.
Never ever shout at them.
Never let them watch crap tv all day etc etc.
Funny now I look back and see what a precious arsehole I was.

ihatehoney · 22/12/2018 19:43

@BigFarmer she never has actually, my dad was an alcoholic though so I'm really careful about alcohol and drugs after seeing the effects on him.

BigFarmer · 22/12/2018 19:46

Did he, aye?

Punto1 · 22/12/2018 20:10

I have read this thread and feel like vomiting. I keep attempting to pick up my glass, but my arm says no lol.

Or just have a happy meal? Bobs your uncle and all that

ihatehoney · 22/12/2018 20:12

@BigFarmer Yes, Unfortunately. Impacted my family badly- I was 7.

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 22/12/2018 21:02

@ihatehoney bit funny to judge someone as an irresponsible parent from one online post about them being hungover..
